The time and effort you put into all the videography and narration of each episode has resulted in a remarkable travel channel product that is unmatched. Truly the best!!!
You both remain the "Gold Standard" for sharing with viewers "authentic" boots on the ground reporting on your voyages. Sometimes, I am anxious soon to finish off a great book read wondering how I will take the separation soon to come; as you close in on the UK. God Speed & Fairest Winds
That's pretty surreal sailing thousands of miles across the Atlantic to watch a rocket launch into space from an island in French Guiana. Thanks for the video. Fair winds and following seas. Sail On!
A rocket launch is SO spectacular! So glad you took the opportunity to enjoy it. And to share it with us! Thank you! The color change on the rocket exhaust plume is very impressive. I believe you are watching the sunset being refracted by the atmospheric prism illuminating the plume from short wave length reds on the left to long wave length blue to violet on the right.
As many people have already mentioned, the cinematography and editing of your content is, by far, the best of any other channel. You don't realise how much I look forward to each episode. Keep safe and keep living the dream x
You guys set the bar high for ocean cruisers! Few defects and repairs … a tribute to your seafaring skills and expertise. Huge congratulations too on your vlogs. I’ve been a professional and recreational sailor all my life - I am in awe of both of you, and your fine vessel. 🎉 🎄 🎉
Hello guys, once again you have surpassed yourselves. What a fantastic video, you are amazing sailors and stupendous film makers, such incredible talents. By far the best sailing videos on RUclips. Well done and stay safe. 👍
For a sail boat that has the sea miles on yours has she did not suffer to much damage at all, That is a Huge credit to you both, and speaks a lot about all the prep you do before each section of your adventure. I am sure you to will be together forever. Just like my Sigi and I. Hope you both have a great Christmas. Love to you both.
Beautifully filmed and edited, the hours you put into the production really show with the quality of the program. Thank you for showing us a glimpse of French Guyana, we still remember coming by bus from Suriname along red dirt jungle roads and suddenly coming across the space centre it was really surreal.
Come on Summit Comunication from Cape Town, South Africa, your product is out there keeping these sailors safe, do the right thing and improve your customer srevice.
Thanks for explaining how long it take to edit a video. People don't believe that I can spend two weeks making one eight minute video. Loved the rocket launch. I must have been quite the experience.
I would deep six the summit radio! Those in South Africa have really stepped on their tongue. They should be extremely happy to send you a new radio asap considering the audience that you have. Customer Service or lack of says a lot about a company!
This is one of the best episodes I have seen on a RUclips channel this year. First I was interested to know what needed doing to your yacht then amazed at the nonchalant way you dealt wit the issues particularly climbing up the mast. Then you showed us the prisons which was so timely. I saw Papillon on TV as a child decades ago but had literally only just finished reading Robert Harris’s book about the Dreyfus affair which if you haven’t read I recommend to you. Then finally you delighted us showing the launch of a rocket with relevant stats (40 seconds for the sound to reach you). Absolutely brilliant. Well done. Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and safe journey.
I really enjoy your videos. So much information and so interesting. Your hard work of editing is not wasted on me! Very much impressed! Just fantastic. Thank you Matt and Amy.
You both pour your heart and soul into every video and it shows. Thank you. I'm sorry I can't justify becoming a Patreon (for financial reasons) but I hope by subscribing and watching every episode and all the ads I am contributing something. I've been watching for a number of years.
What an amazing stop on your journey! From the islands where mans inhumanity was on display to a rocket launch expressing our hope for all of us and the future. This channel has become the best travel documentary out there! Just supurb in every way! Thank you for sharing your world with us!
I know what your intent is but "man's inhumanity" is paradoxical. Humankind is a dominant species that has evolved through many stages from the missing link through the last millennium's civilizations to today's merging global cultures. No "ways of life" along the way were inhumane. They were the norms of different cultures at the different times that humanity had to progress through. Keeping the 18th century European population safe from murderers and rapist's before sophisticated tax funded public institutions, rights, laws, prisons and modern sensibilities etc. existed meant taking them out.... by execution or banishment. The French move to exile from the guillotine/hanging was one such progressional stage of humanity. Today's generations that think everyone born before them were racist is a paradigm of this mis-notion of a static humanitarian standard. No. I don't know what made me write this either. Sunday lay-in I suppose.
Having circumnavigated the world 7 times both on commercial and my own private vessel , I can say welcome to the club ! Yes things break and need maintenance all the time . This is where learning and expertise allows for sensible spares as some things are hard to acquire in remote locations and somethings can be adequately be repaired on your own . I once pulled my drive shaft on wotho atoll in micronesia by sterning myself to a palm tree with the help of the natives , and then flying it to the majuro for repairs at a machine shop then returning and replacing it . We called in the flight via a shortwave on a very scary rarely used landing strip .
Hi Florence from Alberta Canada. You are always such a pleasure to watch . Appreciate you including footage on both the prisons and ESA rocket launch facility. Sail safe and we'll see you in a couple of weeks., Based upon what the episode release dates turn out to be going to with you a very merry Christmas row.
Guys, if as you sail by the US going home, be sure and stop near Cape Canaveral. SpaceX launches a Falcon 9 rocket once a week on average. Sometimes they wait a couple weeks and do them twice a week. There also have a bunch of Falcon Heavy launches scheduled. They are a much more powerful rocket. I’ve seen a lot of launches and I can’t imagine ever getting bored with them. They are just too amazing.
As for the VHF radio, I suggest you go by the old prepper rule: one is none, two is one, and three is a good start. But you obviously have a pretty good idea on this as you also had the hand held radio. Of course, I’d suggest you get an amateur radio license so you could also get a high frequency radio. Depending on conditions, a high frequency radio can communicate up to thousands of miles. Of course, you guys are limited on power so I imagine that would be a constraint too.
Wow! Who would have thought in addition to all your other experiences you would get to see a rocket launch! Have to confess that I had no idea that French Guiana was in South America! My geography is expanding! Another beautiful video. I also had no idea that Devil’s Island was in French Guiana! Loved Papillon. ⛵️
You comments about preparing for weather mirror Joshua Slocum. I always remember his repeated statements: “ I saw weather coming and took in reef”. Words to sail by!! I think the Royal Navy should be jealous of your ship keeping! There are so many sailing channels where there is drama and dangerous risk taking. You are showing how to do it right!
Hi to you both.thank you for making your videos so entertaining and informative at the same time.I think that your underway at sea filming is brilliant, but I have to say that I did not realise how much time was put into these great programmes.Roly🇬🇧.
Another great episode, thank you for sharing 🙏🏻 Your video production and editing skills have become so incredibly good, your shows are professional movie quality now, enthralling, engaging, moving, and yet still down to earth. And this is on top of all the other sailing related skills you’ve had to learn over the years. Huge congrats to you both for all these achievements 👏🏻⛵️👏🏻⛵️👏🏻
I know this comment echos many others, but I love your channel. Reality.. not romanticized or sexualized. Something I can watch with the kids, which I appreciate 👍
Nice video and thanks for the effort! Lucky the light was an easy fix! You also might want to 'fix' the bowline knot you tied into. The bowline knot, the seamen's best friend is in the world of climbing called the death knot. And for a good reason. because under load it is fine, but with alternating loads it can loosen up/ come undone or snaps loose when loaded again (falling) To be safe, please always! use an extra tie off a bowline knot with; a stopper knot, a Valdetorian tie off, or simply use a figure of 8 knot. Be safe and looking forward to the next video!
Great Video with much Technical Mastery. Matt as the Modern incarnation as HMS Ganges 'Button Boy' with training in Electronic Engineering invaluable. So much editing to give as much viewing pleasure. Many thanks. Fair Winds.
I have to agree, your film making and narration is superb. Thanks for all the many many hours of editing to give us the pleasure of watching. Appreciate the layback way you both go about your sailing and lifestyle. Not sure how far behind in time we are seeing the videos, but a live update and what you are up to now as I'm pretty sure you've been home for a bit?
Fab vlog I am so excited for you to complete your circumnav. Have so enjoyed your whole journey and bc your vlogs are always consistent and intriguing.
Awesome! So indebted to you for all you have shared these past years. This was truly an awesome update on your continuing adventure. Stay safe as you continue your last legs to this voyage. Cheers 🥂
The very minor repairs you needed to make after such long passages in such a small and old yacht are a credit to both Oyster and the maintenance that the two of you evidently must do. Well done!
I've found if you can take the mic apart and spray a little wd 40 on the talk buttons electrical switch where the contacts are it will clean any corrosion or buildup off the contact points and make a better contact. When working on a engine we will spray wd 40 directly into the points or contacts in the distributor for the spark plugs and it will clean the electrical parts and contacts of any corrosion or moisture that has gotten inside the cap. Wd 40 doesn't seem to hurt electrical contacts or connections. I did this on an old 70 year old radio that wouldn't work when changing channels for different radio stations . After spraying a small amount of wd40 into the finned radio Channel selector and working the selector back an forth through the different radio channels it worked perfectly. I would use the wd40 in small amounts without any power to the mic. and work the talk button. Then reconnect the mic to the radio and hopefully it will clean out the reason it's not making a good contact when transmitting.
Great video. If you haven’t made definitive plans on what your rout back to the uk is going to be, I’d highly recommend making a stop or two in Newfoundland as your last stop back across the pond.
Dear Matt and Amy, we are so happy for you guys, reading the awesome comments below complimenting your film making skills and achievements, ditto to all of them. Great job on this one and best of luck for the remaining journey homewards, we look forward to catching up with you next year, lots of Love, Jo & Steve, have a great Christmas
Can't say how much of a great job you both do on putting these shows out you really should be getting an award for it and I for one will very much miss you I spend a lot of time sick with two minor heart conditions when things were bad with covid etc and I couldn't go out anywhere it was a great thing to look forward to was your show regular as clock work it helped a great deal to cope watching you tube shows esp yours
If you wish to sew sails, I use a net-maker's shuttle to carry the bottom thread, and either a palm and needle or one of those sewing gadgets with a needle and spool of thread in the handle. One pushes the needle through, then returns it through the same hole but the loop is over the thread from the sailmaker's shuttle. I begin with tying the thread tails together at the edge of the area to be sewn, then keeping the shuttle on one side of the sale and the sewing device on the other, work your way along the seam, but stop every once in a while to tie the threads in a surgeon's knot or reef knot and pull the knot into the sail thickness. That way if a thread wears through or snaps, the seam will only run to the fourth or fifth stitch before it is again locked, Just sayin'
Thanks for the Aquasignal fix. I have the same type with the same bulbs and the same problem. Great idea to use the bosums chair to stand in. I will be seeing if the same techniques can fix my dud tricolour. Cheers Phil
Thanks for all your hard work and the magical videos you produce...and well timed for a space ship launch...⛵🌍🚀 Hard to believe that I found you when you were still in the UK, 😳 Time definitely flies...you have one life and you're certainly living (and loving) yours 👍

This video deserves an award , your film making is consistently some of the very best amongst the many sailing channels on You Tube . Thank you 🙏

I'm grateful for my mast steps every time I watch someone haul themselves up a mast.
When you get back you might find you are missing a pair and they are at the top of Florence's mast ;-)
That's pretty surreal sailing thousands of miles across the Atlantic to watch a rocket launch into space from an island in French Guiana. Thanks for the video. Fair winds and following seas. Sail On!

There are so many sailing channels I no longer follow, this is not one of them.
Just watched this on my tv, you guys need your own documentary series, it was stunning ❤
My thoughts entirely. They put professionals to shame.
You’ve created a great channel ❤
You are undoubtedly the BEST sailing channel online now.
Standing ovation! Great video. Thank you for sharing these incredible experiences with us! Fair winds, following seas and many adventures to come.
As many people have already mentioned, the cinematography and editing of your content is, by far, the best of any other channel.

Florence to Machine. That took a second. Brilliant. 🎶
Great photography and editing. This is always a feature of your superior episodes. Congratulations and thanks.
Love the channel, you going around the world for second time so we can keep on watching 👌
I'll never forget seeing a live launch at Cape Canaveral. It is truly an awesome experience.
Brilliant.....i had no idea editing is so time consuming. You make it look so professional. Thank you Adrian

Papillion... Steve McQueen. He did his own stunts. The Great Escape. Bullet.
Lovely scenery. Thank you. Merci!

Beautifully shot, as always. Suggestion: a zip tie around the bayonet fitting of the tri-colour could prevent the shaking from opening it up again.
Lol, the level of detail and editing in your vids is amazing..even calling bs on the cliff jump.. you guys are awesome.

wow two hours for one minute of video? you guys are great
Yet another great episode. Your production values climb higher with every video. Great work.
The only VHF radio to buy (nowadays) is an ICOM. Everything else is cheap junk. My Horizon is two years old and already falling apart.
Wow! 2h editing for 1m of video!? So for a 15m episode that's 30h editing! Now I'm even more impressed!
One of your best videos so far! Congratulations and keep on making us dream of these beautiful horizons.
Buy an Icom radio. Altought slightly more expensive those cheaper ones are just no good.....lol

This video's feeling (style ) is like fine wine. I enjoy your presentation . ❤Thank you!🙏

I used to live and work in Florida and observed the launch of the last Space Shuttle from the parking lot of my office.
So happy to see your success both on passage and with your channel. It is growing in quality and viewership.
Love my Florence fix.
Wow that’s cray cray. I didn’t know it took that long to edit video. Holla I love y’all.
Great Video with much Technical Mastery. Matt as the Modern incarnation as HMS Ganges 'Button Boy' with training in Electronic Engineering invaluable. So much editing to give as much viewing pleasure. Many thanks. Fair Winds.
Thanks for a great episode, enjoy yourself & Merry Christmas
Nice seeing you both again.
I think I manage roughly two minutes of editing a week - at the moment! And yours is great ;-)
Another great episode and top production too.

You have really improved your storytelling,- I liked this episode a lot. Thanks.
I like your sails. We received ours today!! Love your video's and stories.

Really enjoyed your journey through the old prisons, and the space launch, as well as the repairs. very interesting. Thanks!
another good one thanks
Enjoyed every minute.
Great video. Hope more see this. Not to many travelers/sailors go this route.
Love the name "machine" for your radio test. (Florence and the machine) 😆👍👍
That's the name of their dingy/tender. ON PURPOSE!
You guys are awesome!
New subscriber here. Greetings from Ireland and the crew of Wavedancer. Wow really well presented video of fantastic content
That way if a thread wears through or snaps, the seam will only run to the fourth or fifth stitch before it is again locked,
Just sayin'
Excellent episode ❤
Another awesome video, thankyou so very much we hope you had a wonderful Xmas. Happy sailing.
Thanks for the Aquasignal fix. I have the same type with the same bulbs and the same problem. Great idea to use the bosums chair to stand in. I will be seeing if the same techniques can fix my dud tricolour. Cheers Phil
Thanks for all your hard work and the magical videos you produce...and well timed for a space ship launch...⛵🌍🚀
Hard to believe that I found you when you were still in the UK, 😳
Time definitely flies...you have one life and you're certainly living (and loving) yours 👍
The rocket launch was awesome thanks for the awesome video
Great video! Always been impressed with how easily the editing seemed to come to you guys - lots of other channels commented on it alot but it never seemed to figure with you, couldn't work out how you did it! Must be really frustrating when you're constantly sailing to other destinations to have to post things back to people. Must have been amazing watching the Arianne 5 launch!
Wonderful guys, just wonderful. Some awesome continuity too. Happy New Year to you both.
Wow Sailor 👍
Enjoyed the episode. Such contrast with the old, barbaric prisons, and the launch of one of mankind's greatest technological achievements. I'm glad you two are such troopers with the video editing!
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks
new fan, amazing quality
