- I visit the beautiful station at Crowcombe Heathfield on the West Somerset Railway in The Quantock Hills in Somerset on one Sunday afternoon when the steam gala was on.
Please note - this video has no commentary, and only features natural sounds.

Yes, I think it was all because of the steam gala, which was held over three days (I think the following day too because it was a bank holiday).
A lot of horsepower there for sure!

Yes, it is nice and quiet at this station, so it is good to be able to capture the natural sounds.

As you know, I like to do different formats on my channel.
I do like doing acoustic sounds only sometimes, if the conditions and subject fit.
This was a quick stop gap video to film (but a heck of a lot longer to edit!!) en route to North Devon.

Yes, because this lovely station is sited well away from roads, it is great that you can just listen to nature 🐦 in between the trains.
I had actually forgotten that the gala was on; it was just an impromptu stop on the way to where I was staying on holiday.

Something managed to place you at the right spot at the right time! A double header & a goods train meeting at Crowcombe.
Apparently they were giving rides in that guard’s van to enthusiasts - only so many a time - as it is so unusual for a heritage railway to run goods traffic.

It looked like Witherslack Hall was struggling for steam on the way into the platform but maybe there was just no need for it to be making effort.

Yes, this one was a bit of happenstance. I had forgotten that the gala was on, and I was very surprised when I saw a double headed steam train! And then another (a goods train - rare on heritage lines) almost immediately afterwards.
It was a magical few moments that I was lucky to capture.
