So, for context, I’m not out to my family. I saw my grandma over the holidays & when I was telling her that I really hit it off with my female coworker, she asked (without hesitating), “Is she single?” I told her no & she said, “Well, that’s unfortunate.” And that’s how I discovered my very conservative, 81-year-old little grandmama is a covert ally 😂

Drugs and drinking are suuuuch a big part of the queer community and it always feels really affirming for me to hear from others who also choose not to participate in it. For the masc and fem talk, I’m somewhere in the middle. And I’m happy here. I don’t think I’m super feminine, but I’m certainly not masculine. I sit like a man, walk like a lesbian, dress in baggy clothes, use pockets instead of a bag, my personality is all over the gender spectrum. And I’m proud of being a somewhere in the middle woman. I’ve questioned my gender in the past because I’m not Uber feminine, but I still identify with my body and she/her pronouns. I think the label of masc or fem of lesbian or gay or anything else can be restrictive if placed on you from someone else. But if you call it to yourself, feel happy with what you call yourself, then yeah. Labels can be great and validating. The problem is when someone tries to put you in that box and keep you there. You’re allowed to branch out to some of the other boxes and still call one box home.

This!! I feel really weird sometimes because I don't really fully embody a gendered aesthetic. Like sometimes I dress like an old lady and sometimes I dress like a queer mechanic or a liberal arts college professor. And I want to be seen as a woman to whoever becomes my partner but I don't necessarily want to have to perform "femininity" to do that. I'm personally she/her and politically they/them but also don't really feel great with a nb identity because I'm not dysphoric about my natural form (in regards to gender at least) or biological functionality or marginalized by my thoughts on personal vs impersonal pronoun usage. I don't really know how to sell myself in the dating world because of it though. Like I'm very much an everyperson irl but people want specific characters and I like my npc energy

    • @hayleywilliamscroc
      @hayleywilliamscroc Год назад

I'm somewhere in the middle too! Some days I'm more femme and other days I'm more masc. I had issues around gender a few years ago, just before I came out, but now I'm happy identifying as a woman and using my she/they pronouns. Though nobody ever uses 'they' to describe me, since I 'look too feminine' (according to those people). I agree with you about it being restricting when other people say it, I'd rather people not discuss the way I present to be honest. But I'm happy as the person I am and I try not to use labels to describe myself at all :)

Hi, I gues i'm just one of your straight-white-male cousins in the chosen family. I totally binged all episodes until this one in two days, because I feel so at home in your company. I'm here to let you know, that lots of topics you discuss are very reletable in every kind of relationship between humans. I also seek balance between being more "fem" or more "masc" and feel the pressure from my parents/society to fit in certain models; avoid being a creep when flirting and avoid objectifying women; find courage to be voulnerable and get rejected. Thats exactly what I can learn here about. For a split second I worried that I was not welcome here during this episode, but Mum convinced me to stay ;) Thank you so much for sharing your experience, lots of love from eastern Europe!

I relate with Ashley on the sober situation. Alcoholism and addiction runs in my family so I don’t actively drink or get high. I only drink socially and even then it’s 1 or 2 drinks. When I had tried doing those things in the past I enjoyed it way too much and then wanted to do it again the next day. Also, I only ever wanted to get drunk when I was depressed. Thankfully my circle consists of people who have the same sober mindset. We don’t need to do anything to have a good time ☺️

Adopting can be great, but we're not overpopulated (that myth can lead to ecofascist or even just fascist ideas), and in countries like the U.S., were there's for profit adoption agencies, it can be quite awful (families with low income than only need support having their kids taken away). There's actually some anti-adoption adoptees activist out there. We all need to educate ourselves on the topic to ensure that it is always a wonderful thing, not only some of the time.

I dropped out of school christmas time of grade 12. backstory, army brat. I went to 3 different high schools in 2 different provinces. I was so done. years later,, I Studied for my GED, aced it and went to college in my 30s. Got a degree in comp sci. Honestly, I got so much more out of it then, than I would have earlier. I was there cuz I wanted to be, not because I had to be.

Not a lot of interest in dating anymore but it would be nice to have gay friends, people who speak my language, don't ya know lol.

I have chronic Lyme so smoking enough that my muscles relax and then taking a hot shower or doing some stretching is the #1 thing that always helps the most for me. I smoke before I sleep. The pain specialist I saw recommended cannabis because the pain was diffuse. The dispensary gave me capsules to take when I got home from work so I could do house chores or just be more comfortable and a vape to use before I go to sleep. For context a lot of my pain is hip/back/neck/shoulders so folding laundry usually means muscle spasms. It's more expensive through a doctor but it is definitely a good starting point for anyone that has thought about it so you can go over options. Smoking affects a lot of people differently than edibles and different strains have different side effects. CBD capsules work better for me than ibuprofen or any NSAIDs so if that's not your experience then it's probably not for you.
Thank you Ashley for telling that story. This whole episode is hilarious 😂

As y’all probably know, meeting other queer people usually revolves around alcohol consumption ie: bars. And not everyone does that for a myriad of valid reasons, there’s so many posts on social media about the need for queer spaces without alcohol attached! V important conversations to be had!

Cannabis has absolutely saved my life. I've been living with chronic pain since I was 6 years old and the battle I've gone through with it has been a lot tbh. No medication has had any significant effect on it and I used to drink pretty much every day to kind of feel like a person. I use cbd and other cannabinoids interchangeably now. It doesn't fully take the pain away, but like Ashley said it takes the edge off and allows me to think and react differently plus it relaxes my muscles enough so I can do a little exercise which otherwise would be quite impossible. I love it! I reccomend definitely trying different combinations of cannabinoids to find what works for you 🖤 Alcohol was absolutely destroying my life and I've been sober from it for almost three years now!

When doing edibles you wanna do it on an empty stomach because otherwise it's pretty unpredictable. And you don't wanna take more after you "waited" and "nothing happened". Pro tip: always note the time you took it, you'll be shook how time can bend😅😅 Caffeine, fresh air and citrus fruits help with the fog the next day. 😘

I have EDS and chronic pain also, my body processes medication in a weird way. For me CBD alone doesn’t help my pain, or THC by itself, but for some reason together they do help. Usually like a 5:1 (CBD:THC) is good. It’s like the THC activates it somehow. Worth trying if you want to

Addiction also runs in my family. I never abstained from drinking or getting high but I know for a fact that I don't like getting drunk. I like drinking wine and getting a little buzzed and I smoke unholy amounts of pot but other than those two I've never been interested in experimenting with any other drugs or mushrooms or hallucinogens. I feel like I've always been comfortable with the base level of light drinking and smoking weed, but I've always been too scared to experience anything further.

i love Alayna’s the idea, that we are claiming masculinity by using femme/masc descriptors! generally, I think, yes, we should always be open and careful about what we say to and about people, but I don‘t think, the notion of ‚there is no gender, therefore we shouldn‘t use gendered words‘ can be very exclusionary towards the ying and yang of gender(expressions) and how we feel in it. it‘s like when s.o. insisted, Ashley is non-binary and not accepting that she‘s a masc presenting woman. (felt that hard btw).

The discussion about drugs and alcohol is so interesting!
The time distortion is real. My experiences for years were a lot like Ashley's but near the end when I stopped using became more like Alayna and Mac's. It really can feel like a therapy session, especially if you write what you're feeling at the time.
I ended up quitting for a lot of reasons that all kind of happened around the same time...
    (1) I started adhd meds after finally being diagnosed in my late 20s and because weed is a depressant and my brain needed stimulants, they recommended at least breaking from it. They also switched up my antidepressants to something that treated my fibromyalgia a little better. So better medical treatment + an explanation for why I am the way I am and have been all my life= less need to self-medicate.
    (2) Around the same time I met the beautiful girl in my profile picture and she doesn't drink or do any drugs so being properly medicated and being (secretly, kind of) in love with, and spending most of my time with, a person who didn't do those things made it so, like Mac says, I just don't feel the need for it.
    (3) My last 2 years or so have been INCREDIBLY busy, kicking my control issues into high gear so any time I got high near the end I just felt like I was wasting time.

I also have an extremely addictive personality and have struggled in various areas of my life because of it. Relationships, eating disorders, and drug use. I’ve gotten sober completely on my own (please seek expert support if needed) from stimulants, alcohol, and opioids, yet marijuana continues to be the ever present drug in my life. I’m fully dependent and have tried quitting multiple times, only to convince myself “everyone needs a vice” and that weed must be mine. I’ve wanted to try quitting again, but have been terrified to feel such raw emotions without any “relief.” Hearing you all share your experiences (and Maddie sharing hers on the other pod), has instilled a new sense of curiosity as to what I could achieve if I had 24 sober hours in the day. Ironically enough, I smoked the rest of what I had last night, so today will be day 1 in this attempt at sobriety and I feel like for the first time, I have a group of sober friends/family cheering me on and setting the example ❤

Just watched your pod about you talking about doing weed yesterday. I have MS and I live my life in pain. I went to a dispensary since I was tired of nothing working for me. The knowledge I received is invaluable and I learned that the ratio of 1:1 (THC to CBD) works amazing on pain. To be honest, I’m doing 1/4 gummy every day or every other day and that’s all I need for pain and I don’t feel high at all. Just pain free. So maybe go to a dispensary and speak with someone who can tailor it to you to maybe help you better? Just a suggestion! Love your stuff!!

Ugh I have the opposite problem, like when I'm only surrounded by queer people I feel like there's a lot of "competition" and everybody is trying to show how gay they are, how many girls they had.. Instead when I'm with straight friends it's so chill, they are simply curious about my situation. It obviosly depends on the case, but I've never really found a non-toxic lgbt environment.
