We frequently spent several months a year in our motorhome touring returning to our cottage for winter. After losing my wife, I still travel in the motorhome but the costs of home and van ownership has reduced the time away. To give up my stone cottage and be a full time van lifer at my age would not be a sensible move. I love the idea and wish you all the very best pursuing your dreams. Thanks for sharing lass.
@pageant1fd I totally see where you are coming from and I think that's why I'm at the age to do it now. I know in later years it'll be more sensible to have bricks and mortar again. For me it's just about the experience of doing it as ive thought about it for so long 😊 Happy travels in your motorhome ♥️
@doffchitty1875 I rent at the mo so that's not a possibility unfortunately. I know people who are renting their homes out while they have a few years on the road though, great idea 😊
Just subscribed after watching this video 😊 this is my plan, it's lovely to see, I'm 35 with a 3 year old and I've always said when I'm 55 and if my son is set up in life I want to travel in a camper van or caravan, went shopping looking at caravans and thinking they will work best and more room for full time living. Thank you so much for sharing ❤
@cozypuzzler8975 Thank you so much for subscribing 😊. 55 seems to be that pinnacle age doesn't it. It's definitely a good and certainly less stressful way of living...if you can cope with limited space. I actually love how basic the living is and can't wait to go fulltime 😊
I am coming up to 3 years full time living in my self converted van, I am finishing up as a campsite warden on a site in Scotland and taking up a new role in Shropshire next week and I am strongly considering selling the van and buying a caravan which will be a more practical living arrangement for me and my dog. I think you are doing the right thing and I think you will love living an alternative life style.
@MrFastrhino I can imagine Scotland has been amazing and challenging lol. I absolutely love it there but jeez them midges 🤣🤣. I think caravans give you the freedom to use as a Base and go off exploring in the car, think that's what would suit myself more as I do like going off up in the mountains. Wouldn't fancy driving a motorhome in places like that 😊. Let me know if you decide to switch and good luck with your new site. Shropshire is gorgeous 😍

You're not wrong. I think now more and more people are realising bricks and mortar aren't everything. Fine if you can afford it but so many people now just can't. When I break it down, it's a no brainer to live in the caravan. 😊

Mad. I'm 53 and been living in a motorhome in the UK for three years. I'm thinking of getting a caravan now. Worrying - RUclips can read my mind, I haven't been even looking online this was just in my mind today - scary 🙀
Hi Carol , some years ago I sold my house I already had a static caravan in Wales & I bought another one outside Southport to be near my place of work . I commuted between them it was a great lifestyle then after a few years a property I'd always wanted unexpectedly came for sale so I sold the Southport caravan . I was lucky as the housing market during those year went down but I know of some people who have done something similar and aren't able to get back into the property market as the prices have risen so much . Don't get me wrong it's a great idea but it's just something to take account of .👍
@lifesabeach20 I was actually looking at buying a static near Southport too but was put off with a few horror stories about people losing so much money on.them. That would have been my base when my seasonal pitch closed instead of touring. As regards to not then getting back into the housing market, I'm not sure I'd want to in later years. I always say, that's why I had so many children. At least one of them will look after me 🤣
I would be more tempted to try smaller independent camp sites, i imagine some may well offer a decent discount if you are staying for 28 days, especially as many of them will almost certainly be empty between Monday and Friday
That's quite true, it's all things to look into for next year 😊. I might even be able to find 1 site I could stay the 4 months, that would be handy....good suggestion, thanks 🙌

Great vodeo ,this is something ive been thinking about for many years now and ive thought about campers ,caravans and even narrowboats but o think the caravan seems to be the less hassle
@daveyoung7924 Thanks for watching Dave 😊. I love the idea of a narrowboat too however I just don't think it would be a practical option as I like going off on my walks, hikes etc so need a Base on land so to speak. Campers are great but just not enough room so yes a caravan is what suits me most. Let me know if you do it 😊
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment I'll definitely be doing it either this year or next .the narrow boat seems to involve a lot of hard work and hassle haha

Very informative video it should give quite a few people food for thought. Your pitch seems a very reasonable price for seasonal I have been thinking about going back to a caravan and doing similar to you but staying at home during winter but all the seasonal pitches that I've looked at are £3000+ per season which unfortunately is unaffordable for me
There is also maintenance, which you have in a house. Living in a caravan/motorhome can be cheaper depending on how you do it and having a 12 month pitch is a cheap way to go while still giving you the freedom of mobile living
How do you manage to get insurance and keep bank accounts going etc with no permanent address? I am probably going to be homeless and I am looking at all the alternative ways of living but without a permanent address there seems no way to get vehicle insurance.
@kerry5586 Hi Kerry, as I mentioned in my videos I do still have a property. When I go full time, I will use my son or daughters address for things like that. I know a few people who use family and friends 😊
Really interesting , I never thought of living in a caravan on a seasonable pitch . I thought you would be stuck on a £20 per night all year which would be prohibitive. Do you have any idea of how to find seasonal pitches? I’m intrigued. Thank you
Hi Kev, yes if you just ask about on sites in.the area you're thinking if they have seasonal pitches or they may be able to guide you to some. I found mine purely when I went camping on a site I found on pitch up. 7 years later I'm still here 😊. Definitely just ask about, let me know how you get on 😀
Loved hearing about your costs involved Have you towed before ? I have towed our caravan but I am a nervous tower😔 Have thought about lessons which may help
@kezangart Hi, thanks for your comment 😊. Yes ive towed before although not something quite as big as this caravan. I'm OK with it but will choose any sites wisely lol. Don't fancy towing down any little country lanes 🙈🤣. Definitely think lessons with someone else is a good idea 😊
I do similar to you and I go down to Spain for the winter for 3 months, there are a lot of cheap deals to be had for long stays on campsites, and you don't have to move after 28 days
@retro423 I know a few people who do the 90 days abroad. If I didn't have so many pets and children relying on me lol I'd be very tempted to do that myself 😊
Yes ive seen campers and motorhomes left on seasonal pitches. You'd have to just check with the site, I suppose every site would have different rules 😊
guys if your living full time in your caravan what do you do for an address for mail..doctors..dentist and such..loved the video and yes..food for thought.
@ianrankin9542 The only way round it I know is if you know someone who will add you onto their council tax bill although I'm sure there must be other ways too. Like I mentioned I'd just go one one of my children's....but not pay for the privilege 🤣🤣
@GazHogan Hi, thank you 😊. Yes im going to do a little tour of the van when I'm back there in a few days....now that I've finally worked out how everything works lol. I'm not used to all these mod cons 🤣🤣. Took me days just working out all the light switches, you'll understand why when I do the video 😊
@radleyg9486 I was just speaking from my own personal situation 😊. You can certainly buy a caravan cheaper than property and for most rentals these days you'd pay a fair bit more over a 12 month period. I think that's why more and more younger people are choosing this lifestyle. It's obviously not for everyone but definitely cheap living 😊
@fhwolthuis lol obviously swapping my car 🤣🤣. I'm planning on doing that next year so I'll have it ready for when the caravan site season ends in 2025 😊
@fhwolthuis I'll have to do my research on good tow cars. I've towed before but I'll definately have lessons beforehand off a friend of mine who's amazing at towing. The caravans got double motor movers so at least I'll not have to be maneuvering it onto pitches 😀
Oh yes ive heard its very expensive in Australia. My daughter might be doing her 3rd Uni year there....so she's been telling me how much everything is 🙈😊

@irisbaddeley1405 Thank you for watching and commenting, so sorry to hear that illnesses have stopped you from enjoying your caravanning. I agree with you about hotels, I'd much rather be outdoors with nature and not restricted by hotel rules and regulations....not that I'd be breaking the rules haha. I hope you all manage to get caravanning again and if you could find a seasonal pitch that would be ideal for you all 😊. Take care x
@Grt234 I know a lot of the CL sites do charge separately now. I've not yet been charged any extra on club sites...not saying that won't be a thing though at some point. I'd probably put solar on too 😊
@Tommo24 never say never lol. I'd have to learn my knot skills for the ropes 🤣. I do love narrowboats, not sure how good I'd be steering them though...the front seems miles away lol 😀
If it was me I'd sell the house, sod the kids and put the proceeds from the sale into a high interest bank account. The interest you'd get from this would cover your annual living costs. But thinking long term if you don't keep your National Insurance contributions up to date it will affect how much state pension you'll get when you reach state pension retirement age whenever this will be. And you'll be required to pay a lot more tax as well; you might need to get yourself an accountant. More expense.
I fail to see why people want to live as Gypsies !!! You can not live on a seasonal pitch permanently , THAT IS THE LAW !! most councils have the 28 day rule and my local council is strict when Covid hit and ALL SITES CLOSED , people had to return home to their houses … it made a lot of homeless people. Why would you want to do that ?? Remember your park owner can evict you for breach of contract.
@carolinebluerose Lots of people fail to see why others would want to live in houses. if you watch the video you will see I am not saying I will be living on my seasonal pitch permanently. I think you will find a lot of people want an alternative lifestyle for many reasons now. I know a lot of sites were you are able to stay with the park owners permission for 51 weeks of the year and just leave for 1 week. Maybe if you research it a bit more you'll be surprised what you find. Thank you for your comment though and I accept everyone's option on lifestyles is different.
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment that’s my point, park owners CAN NOT GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO STAY ON THERE SITE more than 28 days , the council can remove the park’s license OR they can remove you . I know which option a park owner would choose 🤪. I’m not saying it’s right or wrong but believe me I do know what the legal side is .
@carolinebluerose hmmm maybe my channel isn't for you as I'm all about alternative living as are a lot of my Subscribers. Law or no law....in life there's always around things if you think outside the box, and many landowners also agree with this that's why there are so many people living full time on sites.

Hi Kev, yes if you just ask about on sites in.the area you're thinking if they have seasonal pitches or they may be able to guide you to some.
I found mine purely when I went camping on a site I found on pitch up. 7 years later I'm still here 😊.
Definitely just ask about, let me know how you get on 😀
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment thank you. Will do. Enjoy the rest of the season.
@@kevd1036 Thank you 😊
Just watched your video and enjoy your waffle as you put it . I’m looking into doing the same
Doing which bit, the waffle or the caravan lol 🤣
Loved hearing about your costs involved
Have you towed before ?
I have towed our caravan but I am a nervous tower😔
Have thought about lessons which may help
@kezangart Hi, thanks for your comment 😊. Yes ive towed before although not something quite as big as this caravan. I'm OK with it but will choose any sites wisely lol. Don't fancy towing down any little country lanes 🙈🤣.
Definitely think lessons with someone else is a good idea 😊
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment wishing you all the best - enjoying your channel
Nice awning
It's great...when it's up lol 😆
Can you have a seasonal pitch being in a campervan.
Like I mentioned I'd just go one one of my children's....but not pay for the privilege 🤣🤣
thank you..ian.
Very good video really informative , you are definitely a go girl aren’t you . ❤
HAHA one of my bad points unfortunately lol, always full of ideas and plans 😅
I'm surprised you haven't got a small campervan with tow bar so the 4 months you can live for free anywhere
@user-tj2fs3lv1c I like the safety of sites lol. I've tried "offgrid" in my last camper but it wasn't really for me.
I wanted a tour of the new caravan 😟
There's one coming on over the next few days. I wanted to be try it for a month before I gave it a review on a tour. 😊
Hi Carol,a very informative video, nice job,,,,,,,,,,,any chance of a video tour of this new van
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment Nice one,I'll look forward to it.......Thanks for the reply x
Where is your seasonal pitch please
@@zoebaxendale8942 Hi Zoe, my pitch is in Snowdonia, just a small farm site 😊
Is this a private arrangement or through the Caravan and Motorhome Club?
Gosh, we’re the same age. I should really come up with a plan….
Oh im constantly making plans....then changing my mind 🤣🤣
a fair bit of capital needed to invest in a caravan and car to start with…then the on costs.
That caravan is way too large for your car, isn't it? How are you going to do that?
@fhwolthuis lol obviously swapping my car 🤣🤣. I'm planning on doing that next year so I'll have it ready for when the caravan site season ends in 2025 😊
@@carol_ann_living.in.the.moment aaah, ok! You'll need a pretty hefty car to tow that. What are you getting? Some SUV?
@fhwolthuis I'll have to do my research on good tow cars. I've towed before but I'll definately have lessons beforehand off a friend of mine who's amazing at towing.
The caravans got double motor movers so at least I'll not have to be maneuvering it onto pitches 😀
❤❤
Stay in the UK , your cost of living is about 1/10 of Australia 🇦🇺 !
Oh yes ive heard its very expensive in Australia. My daughter might be doing her 3rd Uni year there....so she's been telling me how much everything is 🙈😊

Hea gradually walking more each day gws so bored
@irisbaddeley1405 Thank you for watching and commenting, so sorry to hear that illnesses have stopped you from enjoying your caravanning.
I agree with you about hotels, I'd much rather be outdoors with nature and not restricted by hotel rules and regulations....not that I'd be breaking the rules haha.
I hope you all manage to get caravanning again and if you could find a seasonal pitch that would be ideal for you all 😊.
Take care x
Not many sites with free electric these days.? We've stayed at a few cl sites and electric is metered
@Grt234 I know a lot of the CL sites do charge separately now. I've not yet been charged any extra on club sites...not saying that won't be a thing though at some point.
I'd probably put solar on too 😊
Come to the narrow boat life beautiful lady 😃
@Tommo24 never say never lol. I'd have to learn my knot skills for the ropes 🤣. I do love narrowboats, not sure how good I'd be steering them though...the front seems miles away lol 😀
@@Tommo24 I've been looking at narrow boat life but seems a lot more hard work than caravans
@@philfletcher3434 haha my children will always be my priority....I might need them to look after me one day 🤣🤣
I fail to see why people want to live as Gypsies !!!
🤗❤️👍
Wtf are those figures? I live in a 3 bed for a fraction of your costs! If you are going to do it! Scrap the mobile home and buy an off grid van! Fucking hell!!!!!
I have to say I own my property with a £400 mortgage a month
@leighbishop6213 I'm renting a 3 bed semi and that's the standard price in my area. Hence the reason for living in the caravan in the future 😊
