I was on the edge of my seat watching for the wheels to leave the ground. Very exciting to watch. It looked like you had no problem controlling the A-Plane, but in future I would really like to see your impressions of how it handles. CONGRATULATIONS on a successful test!🛩
So cool to see something go from drawing board to flying. Kudos to you, sir. You are an inspiration to those of us still dreaming of doing this.
I have met Jon many times at the Zenith Aircraft Factory. Not only is he talented, he is a very friendly person to chat with!
I didn't expect anything less than success. Congrats !
Good job Jon! It's exciting to see the plane fly, and it sure seems like you have plenty of power to slip the surly bonds. Keep on smiling!
Your build efforts & sharing focus have made this a million dollar plane...I bet many of us wish we could pay you back that much for rewarding us with your gifts! 💰
That is great to see after all the hard work. Looks like plenty of power!
So cool to finally see her flying! Job well done
Congrats, Jon! Looks like plenty of power and you didn't even have to build it/paint it as ugly as possible so that it would be repelled by the earth and fly! LOL!
Haha!
Nice, very nice! Congrats on the flight!
Great!! It's been worth the wait. Have fun flying it, can't wait to hear how she handles.
Congratulations!! I’ve enjoyed this whole series of videos on the A-plane!! thank you sir!!
Congratulations !! I watched the build process and enjoyed the videos very much. Looking forward to more flying videos.
Thank you for sharing this project. I've really enjoyed it & learned a few tricks on the way.
Congratulations on a very successful first flight! Seems to fly great!
This has been a FANTASTIC series! You've definitely delivered on your mission to motivate and inspire and lead by the hand to getting more people in the air. ❤
congratulations to you, have been following up your clips since you started building your afforder plane up until now i am seeing you flying, congratulations once again
This was so great! So "Awesome" to see it fly!! I loved the whole series and watched every week from Ep 1. Thank you Jon - I always wanted to build one of these and after this I'm at least buying the plans! CONGRATS🙂
First time-- I knew when you made that last flight you were coming back with a smile. Luv it. Be safe
Beautiful rudder coordination!
What a dream hangar and grass strip you have too!
Your really living the good life, I'm jealous..
Awesome skils. very smooth and the plane look soo nice!
your explanation in your video clips has really made me cause you explain almost every single detail where by someone could exactly fill like is in the workshop together with you, working together with you, keep it up. congratulations once again
Thank you for making those amazing videos, you will be remembered and honored for several generations to come
Congrats!
I've been watching your meticulous build for so long now...to see that pretty baby go airborne, even for just a few seconds...it was pure magic!! Congratulations!!!
I have a Thor 202 on my paramotor trike, and I wondered several times if an engine like this could satisfactorily power an ultralight...thanks for empirically proving it!
I have that same garden furniture pad in your seat outside. Lounge flying.
👏👏👏👏 Fantastic! Amazing job. Congrats!
Congratulations Jon. It was great to see you flying at last. I know how you must have felt before the flight. I felt the same when I did my first powered flight in a 150 many years ago. Unfortuneatly I was not able to continue due to lack of funds.
I don't beleive in renting aircraft to go flying. It's a never ending money pit, which ends when your licence lapses.
Well Jon, very well done. I'm wanting to follow in your footsteps soon. But first I must acquire a house here in Bulgaria.
All the very best in the future. Enjoy your Aplane. You deserve it.
That is so cool! I think I will be building one of these! Though up here in Canada you need at least a recreational pilots permit to fly anything, so I don't really need to worry about the weight as much. Great Job on the build! I'm so thankfull for your RUclips channel!
I had to stop and watch this. Great motivation! My fuselage will be done next week. Anyhow... Back to building!
Fantastic machine congrats on the madien flight. Looks like a space age futuristic
Blériot!
Awesome! It is going to be a good performer with that engine.
Nicely done. Doesn't look squirrely at all.
Well done!
Exciting!! Very nice crow hops. Make no apologies for the ASI-I think it’s critical for maintaining safety margins, even in a Part 103 a/c. I fly my Legal Eagle around mountains so my altimeter is critical, too.
Good show, sir. I bet it felt great to get off the ground for the first time.
Look at you sporting that A-plane Grin! Congrats on the taxi tests. Nice landings... 😁
Hi Jon,
Thank you very much for your extremely interesting vedio. I feel like I did the job and fly. I was krazy at the last movement the machine went air for a few feet. I yeld like a kid. This is my life long dream.
Congratulations from Sri Lanka. Thank you very much again. Wish you a long healthy life. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏
I just bought the plans. Looks like a fun project.
This is fantastic.
Pretty cool :) stay safe out there
Congratulations on the maiden flight, it looks good.
Great sense of humor!
The RV grin without the RV!!! Pure joy!
Great job! Looks like fun. When is part 2 coming?
Congratulations: airborne test flight fantastic looking ultralight.
🌏🇦🇺
That first hop reminded me of the Wright Brother's and their first flight at Kitty Hawk.
That was fun 🎉
Lawn chairs can fly! Congratulations Jon! 😅
I’ve been following from day one. Very nice plane. If you attached a blade along the axle you could trim the grass as you go.😂
The seat looks so comfortable you might watch about falling asleep on those long flights!
congrats
Congratulations thank you for allowing us to share in your experience. We love you and please consider wearing a helmet. I'm not scared or heights or dieing, just living with brain damage.
Is this Jeffery Lebowski? BRANT!
Sweet!
I think it is nice performance of engine and airplane
As I recall, the Wright brothers got airborne with eleven horsepower. Nice video, thank you.
Pulled a spruce goose.
I have been looking at building one of these but I was thinking removing the bend in the front upright and motor mounts and extending the top bar and mounting the engine like a Flightstar would save several pounds of frame and a lot of gussets and bolts, this also means the lg can be shortened to save some weight, extending the top bar to the tail (again like a Flightstar) and taking off the lower bar may save a foot of frame and gusset matl and raise the tailwheel to match the front lg. this would allow more engine weight that you would probably need to offset the cg changes. mostly it makea it a lot easier to mount floats as they don't need to raise the prop out of the water. hopefully I'll let you know how it works in about a year.
Nice.
Very well done. But please use wheel chocks. An accidental full throttle start-up rarely ends well.
I hope to see more, as well as your thoughts on ground handling and flight characteristics.
Nice slow testing with crow hops.
Olé! Bravo!
Saludos and Aplausos...😊😊😊👍👍👍👍!!!!
I saw them once - 3-D printed wheel spacers for Azuaslite nylon wheels, that allow a bigger "Tundra Tire", but now I can't find it. Still looking. I'll let you know if I find it again.
Congrats on getting airborne. When will the first real flight occur? Be nice to see ROC and see it go around the pattern or farther.
18 Hp was enough to propel the Quicky Q1 over 115 MPH, with other performance a bit like a Cessna 152 (in the dog days of Summer).
Really curious how it flys out of ground effect. I think many of us who were curious on that power plant were concerned it may not have enough power to fly out of ground effect
Me too .... I feel like any missing power would quickly show at that point. Im also wondering about the total weight of the craft.
Bro we need part 2
Great job 👏? 👍 When will we take it around the pattern??
so what was the final weight
Great build, The only thing I don't like is that radiator up above the motor ( I would have it below the motor ) ** pilots vision would have to better as well **
You'd really hate a Pietenpol, lol.
After getting this thing off the ground and doing some taxi testing, what are your thought's so far. Putting one together myself and the only thing that worries me is how well the tail will tolerate side load ie, cross winds on the vertical stabilizer.
You must be excited it’s almost time to start a new project.
Whats the planes total weight and does it allow for a 503 in the future? Also have you tested it out of ground effect.... that would really be the test on where your power is or if it lacks enough
Hey jon we need new videos of affordaplane flying
it all about the prop and stall speed as for Hp needed
I just climbed out of my Lazair after flying around an hour or so. It’s only got 19hp and does just fine lol
How about you give it full beans and get forward on the stick until the tail comes up. Once that happens neutralize the stick and let it accelerate until it comes off the ground. Once off the ground let it go a bit and gently let it go upward. So dumb preventing the airplane from going for a flight when everyone knows it wants to go flying. Oh yeah…get a helmet !
Lots of the old classics had less than 30hp. Glad you are enjoying a Lazair!
I grew up around Ultralights starting on 1980. I flew my Lazair 3hrs day before yesterday lol.
@@shannonwhitaker9630 that's wonderful!
Plane on making a video of it flying around ?
How does it climb ? can you get more than 400 fpm ? I could barely do that with 50 hp.
Get you the handle off of a hand held weed eater and use that for your control on the stick. Then you could use the trigger setup on that for your throttle. I think that you would like that better.
The 33hp is actually a great number ;)
Great !!! Congratulations #!!! I weigh just under 200 lbs is that too much? Will you say your weight? Also the fuel weight. Anyone can answer.
Hi: This video never shows the plane getting out of ground effect. (For non-pilots reading this post, "ground effect" refers to the fact that a plane stays in the air much more easily when it's close to the ground.) It's been more than a year, and no videos showing the plane actually flying above ground effect. This will cause people to think the plane might be underpowered. Can you give us an update to clear this up? Thanks!!
👍👍
When will your Affordaplane project take flight?
Your left throttle arm looks uncomfortable extended out straight like that?
Congrats Jon! I really enjoyed your series of videos on the Affordaplane. Just wondering...have you ever weighed the wings? I'm thinking of using this type of wing on another part 103 project. Thanks again for making some great content.
Part 36 is all about weighing the parts along with the numbers. While watching the series - no skipping episodes! Thanks for your comments
很漂亮的小飞机!功率这么小都能飞!很漂亮!
That seatbelt situation looks a little sketchy. Why did you choose tube ribs rather than foam? I’m thinking of starting my own build.
The Original AF as a Legal Part 103 flew on a 26hp@6250rpm Rotax 277UL as did over 85% of the other Part 103's once made used the 26hp/28hp Rotax 277UL, so yeah it should Fly on 33hp which the Polni makes at 8500rpm! If you use the Simple 1Kw for 10kg Rule, its MTOW of 540 lbs = 244.9399 kg / 10 kg = 24.49399 Kw needed to Fly Well = 32.84698 hp! If you upgrade the Wing for an MTOW of 600 lbs needs 36hp, and for 650 lbs needs 40hp. That same Rotax 277UL with a Tuned Pipe can make 38hp@6500rpm. 268cc/7cc= 38.2hp. New Polini $4000+, a good used Rotax 277UL usually with a gear Drive $250 to $650, and can be rebuilt for less than $200.
Superb !
What engine and prop are you using please?
Couple guys pulled it off 117 years ago
What did the total cost end up being as built?
Did it ever do more than a couple of short hops?
Chocks!!!!! Please use chocks when running the engine. Mow the grass or fit larger tyres . otherwise, well played!!
With those wheels, rteat proof of concept imho.
Well... Ihave also built some light planes and with small motorcycle engines(250cc) I could take off... Leaving the gearbox on was a good decision hahahah II had the clutch and gear lever on my right by my throttle to help with that... there sure is a sweet spot for speed/torque... Buuuut when flying up there, I'd set it up on high gear and get rhat throttle back... Soooo cheap on gass. For real. Am now working on a project with a V-twin 1200cc to fly my 2 seater
