I have a suggestion, take it or leave it, makes no difference to me. I heat the case up slightly before applying the sealer, (it also would of uncovered the loose bearing race) and I use a cmall cheap brush and apply the same paint / sealer that you are using, rather than spraying it in and having to clean the bearing surfaces off, just sayin.
Good suggestions! Hopefully I can remember this the next time I do one. Thank you for your insight.
Rap' you do great videos Is there anyway to contact you I am in process of changing out Magnetti Marelli for my sister who's husband passed 1996 FLHTCU. I learned a lot here - and I needed to learn a lot. I have been making mistake after mistake on my v-twin mfg late 77 4- speed case. The Glyptal is something I had no clue about - now I am going to get some. I had a hell of a time getting those countershaft bushings in - I reamed the holes a little to0 large by maybe 0.001 and they were walking similar to how your mainshaft bearing race was. The way I recovered was to use copper shielding tape which is 0.0014 thick - and I wrapped each bushing with 1 layer and wrapped it around where the bushing registers to the case and pressed them in. Then I glazed both interfaces with Gasgacinch - It worked and I thought I was clever - but now after having seeing this I would have used the 2 step loctite process you showed. Excellent video.
The other thing you can do to tighten up the fit a little bit is to get a punch and put a few punch marks around the whole area. This causes the metal to protrude upward tightening the fit. It’s always a struggle working on this stuff. Also, you may not need to Glyptal case since it’s newer. Mainly the old cases are so porous you have to do this.
If you need further help, please reach out but it sounds like you know what you’re doing
@@Rapsgarage that’s good advice on the punch - I had no idea. I plan on doing more bikes in my semi retirement so I will file these ideas and make use when needed. Thanks so much!
Awesome! You can always reach out to me at hdrap_1999@yahoo.com with your phone number if it’s involved and we can just talk over the phone. Just mention who you are.
