I’ve ridden in NYC a few times. It’s crazy! If you can drive there you can drive anywhere!!

You want your tappets dry when you adjust them. Like I show in my video. Oil in the cam chest isn’t gonna matter, but there is a check that’s supposed to hold oil in the oil tank until the pump starts to turn. When this check doesn’t hold the oil up in the oil tank, that’s when you have the summing issues. So to answer your question, oil in the cam chest isn’t a problem when you’re adjusting your lifters. I hope this answers your question if it didn’t, please let me know.

I’d reinstall the pushrod and give it a try. What you described could bend a valve. You’ll need to do a leakdown test to see. If it spins free, I’d put it back together and try it first.

Since nothing changed from when I removed the generator it should be fine. If the gear is tight they will whine. The best way to check these is to install the generator with the cam cover removed and check that it has some backlash. That you for watching.

Another way to check it is to take the brush plate off the back of the generator and spin the shaft. You'll feel the lash or you'll feel that it doesn't have any.

@@Rapsgarage Thanks for the reply. When I first built my 46 knuck I started with one shim and didn't physically check the backlash. No whine or any bad noise so I let it be for the year, but next time it's on the table I'm checking it over.

You know what? That's a great point!! The bike never came with any kind of fuse or circuit breaker from Harley so I didn't give it any thought. I'm going to install a circuit breaker and just hide it in the battery box. I'll add it to a video down the road. Thank you for pointing out the obvious. I can't believe I didn't think of that since I work in the electronic field. Great comment!

Big twins like the Knuckle, Pan, Shovel and Evo have a single cam with 4 lobes. Twin Cams have 2 cams and each cam has 2 lobes. Sportster have 4 cams and one lobe on each cam. You didn't say what engine you have. If you look on my channel I have videos on the internals of different big twin motors that show the cams. Thank you for watching and please subscribe. ​@@Rapsgarage its a 74 shovelhead, talkin about the breaker cam in the points. the one i got is diamond shaped with 4 points instead of kidney shaped with 2. i watched this video and really appreciated how you broke the information down to fundamentals

I believe that would be for duel points instead of single. It’s supposed to be better and more accurate.

@@Rapsgarage Please help. I did Evo1987 engine service, I replaced the camshaft with s&s 495v, I bought Dynatek 2000i and there was a problem with starting the engine. The motor is set as the manufacturer suggests. Tdc in the window is a line piston located at the very top. I set the ignition so that the LED signal goes out. When trying to turn on the engine, the LED shows the signal at the beginning and at the end of the start. I am asking for help. Best regards

I’m not sure what you mean when you say that it shows the LED at the beginning and the end of the start. If you follow my video exactly how I have it you should have it set correctly.

The transmission was only having a shift problem and ended up not showing any wear whatsoever. Also before I pulled it apart I checked the end play, off camera, with my hand and it felt fine. Not the best way to do it. If you watch my other transmission videos you see I check them much closer and the proper way.

@@Rapsgarage does the 1985 use the part #26205-84? (It's the oil filter adapter that goes where the generator did on older models) if so, should I seal the side that seats onto the engine? It seems weird that there would be no gasket especially because inside of that side of the adapter there's a passage with a machined out circle around it and definitely flows through the adapter when you blow air through it. Maybe there I should seat an o ring in that circle?

I wish I knew the answer to that question. This is the only Sportster I’ve owned and it was a flip. I only had it a very short time. Sorry I can’t help with this question.
