Solid interview learned a lot. Great explanation from Chris. Thanks Pug
Great interview, very informative. Phil, you are a pro.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I just bought some Montero AX's with Strive 13D's but haven't mounted yet. Is there a way to eliminate the "demo" portion of the binding before mounting?
No. the retail/hard mount version is very different.
Brand new Salomon Strive 14 GW 100mm, mounted professionally on Stoeckli Stormrider 95, unfortunately sliding antifriction pad under ski boot does not slides correctly and sometimes it stuck inside or outside of the ski profile up to 1 cm and became frozen in that position. Not sure if spring mechanism or binding grease incorrect.
I have heard of isolated cases of this, sounds like it might need more lube.
I have two other skis with an older Salomon Z10 and also STH bindings and the plate mechanism works perfectly, without any additional binding grease. @@skitalkdotcom
Thank you for sharing this great interview! How would the Strive 14 compare to the Pivot 14? Which one would you recommend for a dedicate freeride resort ski (Armada Declivity 108)?
Both are very good, I will say the Salomon will be easier to get into in deep snow.
What is the difference between strive 13d and strive 14?
The 13d, is the demo/system version.
@SkiTalk so Stockli used demo version for the Montero Ax and Ar?
Exactly.
@SkiTalk hmm I got the Stockli Ax and now i feel they kind of screwed me
Does the strive 16 have the same mounting hole pattern as the sth2 16?
The heel is the same, the Strive toe has hte same pattern as the Warden toe
@@skitalkdotcom This is incorrect. The STH2/Warden 13 and The Strive 16 are the same. The strive 14 is the same as the Warden 11.
Is the the toe piece fixed on the ski by only 2 screws which we can see on this video or additional 2 screws are there below the toe piece like the Marker royal family or Tyrolia attack series?
Yes, there are two floating screws under the tow so the ski can flex.
Salomon warden 13 mnc or this ....which would you prefer over the other and why ? .... asking for mounting on bent 110
Strive will be a lower center of gravity and will work better,. At the time of this reply, there are deals to be had on the Warden 13, so there is that too.
Any intel on which template/jig should be used to mount the 16 mns?
16 mns?
Yes, the Strive 16 MN binding. I cant find a paper template and the only two shops in my area dont have a template OR a jig from Salomon either. I typically mount my own but in this case, I have the bindings and cant even find a local dealer that is any more well-versed/equipped to mount this. The STH2 template looks like it matches but have also read things about it possibly being related to the Warden 13. @@skitalkdotcom
Also: how will the heel plate mount flush to the ski with those little nubs on the underside? Ive mounted a half dozen different bindings in the past few years and never encountered that. Apologies for so many questions and thanks in advance for any info:) @@skitalkdotcom
Ok...lol figured it out. For anyone else suffering from the same confusion while mounting: The STH2/ Warden (non 11) template that is widely available works for the Strive 16 MN and those nubs just crack and sit in the plate channels when proper screw tension is reached.
Why don’t you ask why bindings haven’t changed in such a long time - especially when the sport is suffering from an increase in devastating in knee injuries in the same time period ? It would be better to ask these manufacturers what their opinion is - why have we traded decreasing leg fractures for knee ligament injuries - and how will they address it.
77, bindings have always beend designed to protect bones, ligaments are much more difficult to protect. Tyrolia's new Protector does address protection of the knee and hopefully their claims are correct. But I also imagine that most brands are working on their version of protection.
@@skitalkdotcom - so ask them that question. What are they doing to address the most severe injuries in skiing - it’s really nice to give them a platform to sell their product - but it’s also okay - to ask them some obvious questions - that their products can have a mitigating effect on.
The entire interview was about the performance of the binding - BUT part of the performance is the release - and that was never address
I could have just went to the Solomon channel and watched their promotional material.
You have a great platform. Just don’t be afraid to ask questions - instead of just allowing manufacturers to promote and push product.
@@77hoolie I have asked the question and the answers usually include a redirect which means that there is usually something in the works. In the meantime, vote with your dollars.
