    Short vids are good John, if thats all you have time for! If the choice is a short or none I choose the short!

    It's only 3 years (almost to the day), but I thought I would tell you that I am enjoying the short format... ...this is how I find your answer the questions that I have in the middle of one of your projects. Thank you! (The projects are instructional and inspirational too... ...it's part of what draws me to your channel!)

    I enjoy the shop talks and instructional videos. Gives me good ideas\modifications to tools. I have worked with most tools but its always a good idea to see how others use the tools in the shop. All your videos provide great content and I enjoy watching them.

    A little short video is just fine, please continue. Remember our attention span is very short as well. Actually you have a lot to say in a short time. Well done. Thank you.

    I like the shorter videos, too. The chair at my computer is not the most comfortable but that discomfort is offset because it forces me off my butt and out into the shop.

    I like how you highlight that whatever medium of measurement is not so important, you can be accurate without measuring to a specific number, people always forget about depth gauge for these style videos very handy for holes and I often use the depth gauge on my verniers or digital calipers as you call them to level a piece in the vice, I dont believe they can measure accurately to the thousandth this would be more the realm of a micrometer, there are so many good tricks and tips on this subject, thanks for sharing, definately keep this style of shop tips coming

      Thanks, I think there are times for exact measurements, but most of what I do just requires things to fit each other.

    I think the videos are great long or short. I appreciate you taking the time to do the videos. I Learn something every time I watch one.The hook ruler is cool I have seen you use it in other videos.

    I like these short ones. Also breaking up a long one into parts is good. I seem to like about a 15 to 20 min. video.

      Thanks, I try to do a variety. Although breaking up the longer ones isn't a bad idea.

    Hello John, in terms of my efforts to learn more, and more properly outfit the museum blacksmith shop, these video lessons are very valuable. I've adapted some of what I've seen to the work I do. A specific example is the little U-shaped jig that fits in the vise. One of those has helped a lot with uncoiling springs for dinner bells. Thanks, I appreciate it!

    The soapstone compass is a great idea. I think I'm going to have to make one (or more) for myself. BTW, dividers are for measuring and compasses are for marking, although some are both, so it just depends on the use at the time.

    • @BlackBearForge
      @BlackBearForge  6 лет назад

      Historically what we call dividers seem to be referred to as compasses. Even those of soft iron that are not suitable for marking purposes.

    Stepped hole guage is really handy. Easily made cross shaped for more bang for your buck. Do flat stock maybe ⅛x1 maybe 2 legs metric and 5% oversized on a couple legs just fer grits and shiggles. 🐾🔥⚒️📏📐
