I used to have problems keeping a sketch book until I tried a 30 day challenge in January 2016.... it set in place a habit that I still carry on and I now have several shelves full of sketch books/journals. When I am stuck for ideas I either pick a topic for the month or a new technique to try. Without my daily art session I think I would have gone a little bit nuts over Covid. There are always great videos like this to fire up your creativity if you are stuck and it is always good to get out of your comfort zone. I am not a people person (I have ADHD) and don't like drawing them and was surprised when you said you needed practice having seen your sketches. We all know where we need to improve as artists, but we can be too self critical...give yourself a pat on the back every now and then ;)
Like it, 👍 we all have some good drawings and some not so good drawings and some you really wish you could tear out..... New sketch book..... I always draw the last page first, but that's no guarantee the first page is good
I admire your determination to do the sketchbook in 7 days. It is not easy but you did a good job with a variety of different subjects and ideas. I have several sketchbooks for different things and have not finished one yet!!!😆...one day!! It's always a time thing with me...not enough hours in the day. I need to learn to just sketch and not to try to do a masterpiece every time. Thanks for the vlog.😊
Just love this - it’s just so great to see somebody with this talent sharing their confidence and insecurities. You should be publishing this sort of material!
I loved your sketchbook, every single page. Yes, we are very critical with our own work, but the people out there really understands the journey. I loved every single page, especially the one with vegetables. And the thought that you finished it in a week, is mind blowing! I sometimes figure out what I want to draw in that time duration...lol..wonderful work! And one more thing, on some level you resembled Jennifer Lawrence, especially in the movie "Silver Lining Playbook". 😃
Thanks for this video. I'm from Budenheim but half my life now live in the Philippines. Your scenes of Mainz and the Rhein remind me so much of home. And I love the way you sketch, specially the comic book idea. I struggle to fill any sketchbook at all, this inspires me.
Thank you for sharing! Yes, I’ve had trouble finishing sketchbooks also so I made that my priority this year. I had four that I wanted finished and three are done. Just one more to go!💪
This was super inspiring, your determination to finish the sketchbook has me itching to push myself to do a challenge like this myself. Also, I wanted to day even your initial drawings looked amazing to me! Don't be so hard on yourself, even your loose pen sketching shows your skill and talent. Liked and subbed!
How I fight against First Page Paralysis: I never use the first page of a sketchbook first. I pick a page about a quarter of the way in, or even sometimes just 3 or 4 pages in but not the first and then I work backwards to get to the first page. And I've tried saving it for last but its just as stressful as doing it first.
@@Kathens Aw, thanks for the reply! You did a really good job here. Your ability to have both confidence in your skills and the humility to not take yourself too seriously is such an admirable trait for an artist in any walk of life. In a world of art perfectionism, it's a breathe of fresh air to see people who treat art like you do :)
I really love the comic and characters you made with your sketches! It's so creative. I get very excited by starting new sketchbooks and always feel I must complete a book to start a new one. When I'm 3/4ths the way through the excitement of starting a new book soon is unbearable and that pushes me on to draw random things. I keep telling myself it's ok if the sketchbook isn't all the same style or type of art, it's just a sketchbook.
Oh I totally know what you mean! I sometimes let perfectionism get into the way of creating and it's really important to keep in mind that it's impossible to get the same quality for every page or artwork. Usually the simpler pages take a bit of that pressure off 😉
Oh thank you, but I think every artist has his own pace 😊 So there's nothing to stress about, since there are weeks that are faster or even weeks where it's so hard to create anything at all.
Spent best part of my day wondering what to sketch. Then, I check on YT and find your video on ‘half finished sketch books’. I found four! Thank you - I think you may be psychic. Problem solved! The resulting sketches were not particularly brilliant but at least they got me out of my lethargy. Thank you for sharing your skills and wonderful art. Please keep the videos coming.
Thanks for your comments 🙏 It‘s actually not the regular sign pen, but the sign pen pigment, which is waterproof and dries more quickly, so I didn‘t have any smudging problems. But the regular cartridges for the pocket brush are a bit smudgy, I might switch to the deleter ink someday.
Hey tip from a professional...keep doing exactly what ur doing.good work ethic is hard to follow you seem to have it down, wish my commitment was that good when I was younger it may not have taken so long to break into the industry..you're really good btw..f#$kfaces,they're mostly take anyways..lol..
that’s really interesting and love how the whole sketchbook look likes a comic books
I love your line art and colour choice. It’s really great seeing an artist inking with a bolder ink pen and without making a sketch.

The vegetables in the supermarket are really funny. 🙂 Yummi.

Loved every single page

Yea most of the times I also like to choose pages randomly, but the fear of messing up the first page never stops 😁
This is very inspiring, please do it again sometime in the future. 😊
Thanks, I surely will! 😊

Totally respect you for doing this. Its great keep it up, I love watching your video.
That seems like a very fun idea. I have lots of half started sketch books also.

Ohhh that's a really interesting approach, I should definetly try that out! 😄

wow. you did a whole sketchbook in no time. And your art! 😍 You're one of those artists that make me question my desire to be an artist.

I used to never finish sketchbooks but once I did it for the first time I got HOOKED lol. Now I've finished... 12? 13? Since November '19!!
Daaamn thats so impressive, I think thats more than I finished in my entire life hahaha ✨Keep going!
Also how did you keep that sign pen from studying I've switched to filling my pocket brush with deleter manga ink or Higgins eternal
Smudging

What was the brand name of the first sketchbook you used? The one you used for urban sketching?
I use the Hahnemühle "Toned watercolour Book" for Urban Sketching. The paper has a blue or brown tone to it.
beautiful woman..
