This may be one of my favourite videos you have ever released. Parenting is the most important job there is but so few people speak about it. Thanks for sharing a peaceful parenting perspective to raising children!
Oh my goodness, Beth! I am an educator specializing in working with children with behavioral challenges, and I must say that you are spot on with so many points. What a lovely video for parents to absorb-your experience and patience truly shine and are such a gift! ❤ Many parents focus on consequences and what to do after an undesired behavior, but the real benefit lies in what we do before the behavior occurs. This includes having developmentally appropriate expectations (as you mentioned, only 1 or 2 steps), communicating them effectively (like creating a quiet area and gaining attention), and practicing those skills (such as repeating back and repairing). And then you topped it off with playful parenting. Wow-bravo!
Thank you so much for this video! Over the last few months I have felt the pull of the lord in my life but seem for one reason or another reluctant to give in. Both my husband and I were raised in church and truly believe it’s important to give our children a strong foundation in the lord. I have two young kids and want to give them that foundation. Your words in this video is one more pull Jehovah is taking to get me closer to him. What a blessing! You are changing lives at least 4.
I’ve been watching your videos for a while and this is the video that speaks the most to me. My little one is almost two and I want to keep rewatching this video as a guide for Spirit filled parenting. Insecurity in what the “right” way to discipline is real for me and I love how succinct you are. Many blessings during this season! 💜
I’ve been asking the Lord to help me with patients every day to be a better mother and discipline my child correctly and this popped up today! Thank you Lord. You have a lot wisdom in this area. Thank you for making this video. It’s very useful and helpful.❤
This was truly so encouraging, especially from a Jesus filled view! Could you share a practical routine for how you actually get activities, chores and meals done as a working mum? Or even how you sleep train your children? That’s what I am currently struggling with and I only have two boys but always hoping for more children! ❤
Thank you Beth!! I needed this, I have been struggling with two littles close in age and it’s been hard to remind myself to parent by the spirit. To turn everything back to God. 💖
This was so encouraging and inspiring, wow. What a blessing for us all!! I will be refering back to this vid again for sure. Thank you for making this video and God bless you!
Dropped some timed sections into the description box for you guys to make it easy to navigate to the parts that are most helpful for you - i.e navigating tantrums, consequences, first time obedience etc... I hope that's helpful! ❤
I absolutely loved this video! Not only did you teach so many amazing things (Including spiritually), but you can just tell your heart is so pure in it. ❤
this video is so helpful! my daughter is 13 months and we are witnessing certain behaviors from her that prove we live in a fallen world! i'd love to hear your perspective on discipline with this age range
This video reminds me so much of the book I've read, "Shepherding A Child's Heart" ❤️ So thankful for the trinity... For Jesus' example and for how he leads us! 🙏🏽❤️
Thank you for this video and also thank you for the animal technique you gave a while back to help with brushing teeth, it works like a charm. Here is another tip from a toddler mom that travels especially now for the holidays: it might be silly but let them say “good bye” to everything the plane, the car, the restaurant chair, the beach. It gives them control and comfort when traveling and if you can talk to them about plans before hand the better.
Yes, I do this too for my one year old and it works so well! I will also give her the opportunity to do something instead of me taking something from her or taking her from something. For example, if it's time to stop coloring, I'll ask her to put the cap back on the marker instead of taking it from her, or ask her to close the door if it's time to leave a room, etc. And I always always always give her to opportunity to hand me or someone something that she is holding and needs to give back, I never grab it from her. She ALWAYS gives it back and it has saved so many meltdowns
This video is gold and I can see that you are speaking from the spirit! I have been looking for the tie between biblical parenting and gentle parenting and I feel that this is it! It's being firm but kind and respectful. Exactly my goals in motherhood and as a daughter of Christ but I have so far to come. I would love for you to make more of these type videos. Thank you for speaking to this mama of three boys all different ages from teenager, toddler, and baby. 🙏
I'm not a follower of Jesus but this video still resonates 100% with me. One of the best parenting videos I have ever seen. I'm more of a Daoist and there is so much overlap here, I'm totally joyous
Absolutely amazing video! So informative and grounded in love ❤️ I would love to hear your advice on parenting younger toddlers (perhaps 18-24 months) who are not quite yet talking in sentences and perhaps don’t understand all our instructions/explanations when they’re being disobedient. It seems especially difficult teaching my 22 month old because we aren’t able to have two-way conversations yet to work through some of his tantrums. Any advice would be great! You’re doing amazing work here.
So good!! Thank you so much. You have no idea how much I needed to hear this. I am in the thick of it with 3 under 4 and one on the way, and it's a LOT. I absolutely love your perspective, and I got so much value out of everything you shared !
Thank you for the video! Yesterday as going to bed I prayed for God to show me the truth about how to approach my toddler’s discipline, this morning I open up RUclips and see your video 😊 Could you share your advice on toddlers hitting out of anger, especially younger siblings (baby)?
Thank you. You shared this was a hard video to film. This content is so incredibly valuable and I so appreciate your openness and inspiring ideas and mindset. Such a good reminder and really helpful takeaways. I’ll be coming back to this video.
Truly an incredible video full of such rich wisdom, value, applicability and importance. Will save and continue to come back to this video! Thank you Beth! So much gratitude for you and your channel❤️
I love this video! I generally follow this system but I found very helpful all the details you mentioned and how I can make it work better for me and my kids. I’m not as patient with them as I wish I was🥲 thank you for sharing!
YES! It is so true about needing to give eye contact and try to help the child to understand what each step is for things you need to do. Great tips. I remember when my older kids hit about 5, they totally didn't hear most of what I said unless I went up to them until they were maybe 14. Even when they are older than that, sometimes I still have to repeat myself and be with them face to face for something to register. I am sure it will continue into adulthood. That is cute about the "birthday candles" for communication. Aw. Oh man, my kids never threw a fit in stores, but my oldest used to throw tantrums in co-ops for homeschooling when he didn't get his own way. That was hard.
As a first time Christian mama to a new toddler, thank you. Your focus and heart is beautiful in this. What a privilege it is to disciple these little ones. This was so encouraging to me! Any book recommendations you have found helpful (other than the Bible of course)?❤
This blessed me so much! I’m praying that my husband can get in sync with me. Lately we’ve been butting heads with our strategies and I know it’ll help to be on the same page!
Thank you! This really resonated with me! ❤ Do you have resource recommendations? Do you find time outs useful for toddlers? Or is there something else you prefer?
I love your discipline philosophy and how Christ-centered it is! I liked the idea of gentle parenting and thought I would implement it with my future kids until I realized how unbiblical the underlying philosophy is. Parenting with the God-given authority structure and understanding that our kids are sinful and need to be discipled as the parents exhibit the fruits of the Spirit while teaching their kids is the Christian way to go.
Love how you shared the gospel for those who may not know that! A beautifully prepared video, totally worth the effort 🥰👏 As someone else asked, I’d love to know how you go when your child is just being absolutely defiant and destructive? I have a pretty tough cookie at home. It takes a lot to get through to him… And how you personally deal with the ‘disrespect’ that they give you?
Thank you!!!! I so appreciate the practical tips you are giving. Would love some more examples of natural consequences- I have heaps of suggestions for problems I cannot solve🤣 thank you for speaking in your faith❤️
OMG i need this!! I girl will be 2 on the last day of the year....and the terrible twos are here and she loves the word No....and this is exactly why i didnt want to teach her that word and try to use other words instead that mean the same thing......still a work in progress
Thank you so much for sharing this, it’s so helpful! Assuming you guys don’t spank, in cases of defiance, what is usually the consequence? We don’t spank our daughter (she’s barely 2,) because she does have a very sensitive spirit. We’ve started doing time-outs but I wonder if it is the best option. I’d love to hear what you guys do if you’re open to sharing.
Something we do for my two-year-old that has really helped, is when he throws a fit we make him sit somewhere until he calms down, and then i will talk to him and tell him that its okay to be upset but its not okay to throw a fit about whatever it was. And that if hes ready to be happy he can get up and we can continue playing or doing whatever we were doing. And that works great. I've even noticed that the length of his temper tantrums have been shortening. And sometimes I can even just ask him if we need to go sit and he will stop crying and tell me no mom and we will continue.😊
Love your tip on being proactive with your parenting! I have a 2 year old and a baby and leaving the park meltdowns is something that is very real! My children both can’t talk really well so having a conversation with them to explain what’s going on and my expectations is not really realistic! Do you have any recommendations for this stage of parenting?
Thank you so much for this video! My baby just turned 1 year old but he started everything early. Interest in food, crawling, walking & now meltdowns 🥲 I saw someone else mention it but I’d like to echo, would love to know your approach to sleep training & weaning. You may have covered those in a Q&A or blog but my baby actually freaks out if he sees me on my phone & I want to be present for him anyway so I’ve been watching RUclips a lot less!
Let’s gooooo!! Amazing and tangible gospel explanation. So proud of you using your platform to influence so many to love Christ and others according to God’s heart! 🥹 That’s bold and I see your obedience
Thank you so much Beth! Why don’t churches ever talk about how to be good parents or how to discipline? I’ve never found anything like this and it’s so helpful. Thank you for talking about the Holy Spirit! So often he is neglected and he really is the key to everything in life
This is great! Thank you. ❤ Have you ever read any of Douglas Wilson’s books? Or heard of his daughter Rachel Jankovic? Awesome Christian resource as well.
I am not religious but this video was gold ❤️❤️❤️ thank you so much for all the pointers! One question though - do you have any tips on how to have those conversations with a toddler who hasn’t learned to talk yet (17 months) but does understand what you say? 😘
Thank you sooo much for sharing all this! At what age do you start expecting first-time obedience? My daughter is 23 months and I’m having trouble with her running away from me at the park when it’s time to leave.. I’m 8 months pregnant so this has been a challenge 😅 what consequence would recommend for this age/situation? Thank you so much I love your channel! 🩷
I have a 5yo who im really struggling with and its because as a toddler i was very passive and didnt really discipline consistently so now that shes older there are a lot more factors and things that need the be corrected like attitude, talking back, and not showing respect. I find that real discipline starts around 18 months and picks up a lot at age 2. I consider a toddler a child up to age 4 - some refer to 3-4 as preschooler, but a lot of what I share here would be helpful even beyond age 4 I think! Just haven’t made it there yet so I can’t speak to that from personal experience 😂
Not a devotional, but a really great book: Raising Passionate Jesus Followers by Diane and Phil Comer! My husband and I would read a couple pages together every night and talk and pray over what we were learning. Highly recommend!
What should I do if my kids never seem to have enough of me and getting anything done is impossible too. Constant hurting younger siblings, not sharing, screaming and whining. I feel like my days are chaotic and unproductive and I feel hopeless.
I needed this video, I just smacked my 12 month old’s hand for the first time😂 Thank you for following God’s leading in posting this and the way you shared the gospel through it!
It’s so hard to understand right! How can the same God be the Father and the Son? I encourage you to pray to your God and seek wisdom to understand this mystery. It truly is a beautiful beautiful mystery.

loving, authoritative parenting. love that description
You’re such a great communicator Beth, it’s one of the main reasons I love watching your videos. You have such an amazing teaching gift.

Thank you for pointing us to Christ, Beth. He’s truly the answer to unconditional love in parenting❤🙏🏼

Absolutely AMAZING! So refreshing to hear
Thankyou that was perfect - I can imagine how much preparing this took ❤ encouraged & equipped thankyou xx

Mother of two here! I think you did good here. ❤I love that you mention honor being a two-way street.
Pastoral rich wisdom here... Thank you so much. So needed
She really is so pastoral!!! There are very few spaces in my life I feel shepherded in and this is one!

Hi beth! Totally off topic but I was wondering what camera you use! 😅 thanks and love your videos ❤
Do you have any devotional recommendations particularly for parents/moms? Thank you
Not a devotional, but a really great book: Raising Passionate Jesus Followers by Diane and Phil Comer!
I'm going through the same thing. Just trying to get through each day
This video changed my life! And my toddlers life! Thank you, Beth
I needed this video, I just smacked my 12 month old’s hand for the first time😂 Thank you for following God’s leading in posting this and the way you shared the gospel through it!
Gods son is God?
It’s so hard to understand right! How can the same God be the Father and the Son? I encourage you to pray to your God and seek wisdom to understand this mystery. It truly is a beautiful beautiful mystery.
@whitneytimpe you're so sweet. Personally, It just doesn't make sense for me. I think I'll have to listen to someone explain it.
I love that you're willing to be curious! If you Google "Stand to Reason Jesus Son of God" the first link should be an article by Tim Barnett that goes into a great explanation of it. It's called "What Does It Mean for Jesus to Be the Son of God?"
The Bible is very clear about "the rod" gentle parenting can be ok but sometimes they just need a swat!! Silly to talk your kids into everything
I found so much encouragement and help from this video! Thank you for setting such an excellent example to your kiddos, and to this community. 🫶🏻
