I have very fond memories of the entry area to RAF Coltishall, from arriving on 29th October 1972, to stripping the undercarriage off the Spitfire SL542 to repair AB910, to the day Coltishall was on exercise and my mate and I were standing guard in front of the roundabout ( god knows why, we were told not to stop anybody) when a very young RAF regiment office came up to us and gave us a rollicking because we were standing on the tarmac during an air-raid warning Red, ordering us to stand on the grass, ending with "they do not dig slit trenches in tarmac". Ten minutes later the station warrant officer came past and gave us a rollicking for standing on the grass!
Would love to work there again one day. Hoo-Hum.
