Wow I was noticing the first part of the intro where the time loop from His dad to now Lee and from 1989 to 2000 it looks like your going back to the 60's very cool. whats even cooler is this young man in less than 10 years has made this company into an icon and now Hes doing the same with His guitar company amazing.
@sonofkikkoman Been playing a few years, although been in a serious rut for about the last 15 years!! I need to learn some new stuff & challenge myself a bit more - just bought Guitar Pro so no excuse not to practice more!! RUclips don't let you embed links into the video that take the viewer away from RUclips - there is a proper link in the description under the video that works. Cheers, Lee
@i3oosted the 1/4 of a watt setting is pretty quiet! You're likely to find the opposite issue really. If you want the amp loudish then you also have to drive it. Thus you're going to spend much of your time in crunch territory (not much headroom so you have to use it at full watts but volume turned down low to get cleans)
@trojanadm1980 Hi Trojan - the tone control was set at about half way & the volume was about half way on the 4 watt mode & all the way up on the 1 & quarter watt modes. Cheers, Lee
I bust out my AC4TVH last night for an impromptu jam. Used my strat and a couple simple pedals (an OD and a reverb). Nailed it. Its been modded with the Bitmo mod (more sparkle, more chug or default on 3 way switch) and a slightly less gainy power-amp valve (the value I forget) but wow it sounds good. A genuine good small amp, its around 15watts in real world terms (massively under-rated the output Vox!) and drives a Celestion Creamback 65 nicely. I have converted the back of the cabinet to be semi-open which made a huge difference. Not very often you can say a "small" amp does the business but this thing does and it all fits in the boot of my fiesta. :) These go for £140 or so used (the heads). I wouldn't recommend the combo - its the same amp and can do a speaker out in to a cabinet - but its 10" speaker just doesn't cut it like a 12" does. If you don't mind the smaller speaker or don't play with distortion, its good I guess..
@TheDerijcker It really depends on what sort of band you're playing with and what so of gig you're doing. It is only 4w though so it's not tremendously loud and it won't have the same headroom as say a 10 or 15 watt amp.
@TheDerijcker Then you probably want to look for something with a bit more power. The 5w Blackstar HT5 should probably be what you're looking at if you're using a PA (put the speaker emulated output through the PA) otherwise something like the Orange Tiny Terror.
In a word no. The crunch kicks in very quickly when pushed to even loud bedroom levels let alone gig levels so you'll either want to look at a solid state amp (Roland Cube perhaps) or a higher wattage tube amp. 15 Watts would do well but that's quite a jump in price! Mark
well, volume has to do with the ammount of air a speaker can push. a larger speaker will sound bigger/fuller/louder than a smaller one. same applies if you use a cab with multiple speakers. it's quite a difference in volume between running a 4w amp through a single 10 or 12 inch cab or a 4x12 cabinet. i have the combo version of this amp (10") and i tested them all, the 10 sounded louder than the 8 or 6.5, and the 12 sounded even louder. so you can imagine what would be the case with 4x12 cab.
depends on what you actually want. personally i think full valve amps sound better than hybrids so i'd take VT series out. lil night train has 1w but 2 preamp tubes so it's quieter than ac4tv but has much more gain. ac4 tv has decent headroom on 4w settings but you can still crank it on low volume in 1/4 mode. however ac4tv is quite trebbly so you want to mod it if you want more bass, less harhs top end and some more headroom. the good part is that you only have to change a couple of capacitors.
Great playing !! But The amp/speaker combination is actually a AC4TVH & V112TV Cabinet . It's a 12 inch speaker and not a 10 inch. I play this setup fot a half ear now and it's a very good practice amp ! Thanks for the review
I'm in love with that tone you get from the Vox AC4TV. I'm looking to buy my first tube amp and aiming for something which could be quiet enough for my appartment and loud enough to play with a drummer. Do you think this could work? Also: Combo or Stack? Thanks a lot!
it will handle dirt boxes pretty well, but I don't think it has an effects loop, which is almost necessary when using a lot of modulation pedals, and certainly delays and reverb. If you put those pedals in front of this amp, i.e. in front of the preamp distortion, it will sound horrible
I went for the VT20+ in the end, mainly because that's all I could afford, but it does me good. My only gripe with it, is the poxy little jack socket they used for the headphone/out socket, but apart from that it has a huge range of effects and tones. Since then though, I picked up a fabulous Elgen Studio 50 amp with two 12" Fane speakers which sounds awesome and I only paid £35 for it at the bootfair ! Needs a service mind, but it's in mint condition :0)
great amp I have ok not for gigging but for home use you cant go wrong 4 watt all tube 112 speaker some people have said this amp is crap I don't think so all vox products are pretty good theses amps use good tubes sovtek very nice overdrive and really nice clean tone with guitar volume turned down a bit overall very good all valve amp for home use by a good brand well one of the best amp brands in the world you cant go wrong with this amp
Well I must say, just about every demo I've seen you do using Vox amps sounds pretty damned good. So I can't decided which model of Vox amp to go for. This one, the Lil Night train (which sounded bloody incredible through Chappers 4x4 cab!) or one of the VT series. I'm really into playing electric slide at the moment, so the option of a nice Reverb would be good. Any recommendations ?
Sure, if you put the drums in the living room too, why not ... just have to mind the grand piano on the way in .... This is just as dumb as asking if you can overdrive the PA valves of a 100watter in your bathroom ...
Hello, I've got a little question. I'm running on a roland cube 30 now, and i'm going to buy an ac30 hwx, but I don't want to get this amp always on the road, because it's pretty heavy. Now I'm looking for a cheap tube-amp that i could place in our repetition room. I've read that you should multiply the wattage with 7,5 to compare a tube to a valve state. My cube 30 does the job, so I don't know if this one would...
hi,i saw there are two different combo version of the AC4TV (actually are three if you include the mini version too): the AC4TV8 and the AC4TV10. So what about the head version, how many AC4 head version exist? thanks
Hello CAPTAIN can you tell me please what is the big diferent from the lil nighttrain head and if anyone is good to play dire straits songs and also if i can play and get satisfaction in my room i mean not to have problems with the loudness.PLEASE TELL ME. A i also love to play Guns and rose and others rock style songs.Cheers from Greece.
@@peatlatakia6308 Thank you . just before i desided to buy a new VOX amp. i dont remember the type anymore as it is one month ago. but i made an advertisement for free in a Buy-Sell Group in my place. turned out that a guy who lives 500 miles away asked me if i want to buy VOX Cambridge 30. he has also a VOX 65 bigger and heavier than the Cambridge/ the price was incredibly cheap. about 200 Pond. so, of course, i said yes but i told him i cant send money in a front as i have to trust an unknown person. then he said he would pan anyways to go to my city for 2-3 days as he has relatives there. he came and the item was alright. very heavy. so i bought that one instead of the 220 pound new amp from VOX .i mean, somehow i felt sorry because this new amp 15 W sounded great in your review. but it is very nice having some old guy from the early Rock days. i always like to watch your reviews.
absolutely ! I was amazed at how reasonably priced the VT20+ is at £129 when you look at what you get for the money, I'm after a VFS5 footswitch for it now, which isn't so reasonably priced at £50, when you consider all it is, is a box with 5 switches ! but hey..
I want an Anderson's near my house ... The only guitar shop near me is owned by a guy who treats everyone like they don't know anything about music or equipment. Rock on Anderson's music!
that's great. vt20 is by far more versatile than both lil NT or ac4tv. i guess you got what sounded best for you ears. anyway, vox is the best :D they got me from my first vox amp and next ones will definetly be voxes.
Tonight my crazy-ass neighbor is pissing me off more than usual with her super loud/bad music and loud/obnoxious guests. I feel like playing guitar. I have this VOX amp, a Gretsch Electromatic and a Boss DS-1 pedal. Does anybody have a request?..
WOAH WOAH WOAH matey, slow down. AC30 is 30 watts of tube, I assume the cube is 30 watts of solid state. The Ac30 is to be very, very loud compared to your cube. If you think you're ready then do it, but it's a VERY bold jump you're looking at making.

and something else. can it handle live situations when connected to a bigger cabinet and mic'd ?
Do you think the the 1/4 watt setting is still too loud for the bedroom? Can you get clean and dirty at bedroom volume?
lee how long you have been playing? btw. you can make that url adress clickable on youtube so it goes directly to that url.
Would this be loud enough to play with drums?

Would this be good for a gig in the clean tone?
Can you combine another small cabinet? a 1x10 or 1x12?

Would the amp be louder if you upgraded the cab? Or is it just the same?
What's the difference this and he combo ones? I am planing to buy the combo as it is more portable, is there any big sound difference? Thank you!!
What does this sound like with a strat near full volume on the 4 watt mode? Does the overdrive become too much and lose um... clarity :S ?
does this amp handle mxr distortion plus well ? I am really interested in buying this head but don't want to ruin my whole pedalboard

how do you think one of these would sound with a big muff germanium 4 pedal?
I need a good amp for metal. I am on a low budget. I'm looking for a good half stack. Do you think you can help? It would be greatly appreciated.
where is it made?
Great demo! I love the amp and can never get enough of that Bryan Adams riff! : )
You are a good guitar player...nice review man

rather than spend that ammount of money on 4 mediocre cabs you could get a decent 2x12 or even a second hand 4x12 cab that should perform alot better.
