Mia are you kidding me?!?? This is so good for your first attempt wtf??!??! I can't even IMAGINE what my first attempt would look like. Keep this as a series I LOVED this!! Sending love from British Columbia!
ok but like the pants actually turned out really well. the shirt needs work but honestly it’s better than what I could’ve done so I mean props to you. maybe for now just wear the pants with a black top?
exactly. It's mostly just the fit round the top that is the problem. Pants look a heck of lot better, especially compared to something I could do. Making pants is the devil
As someone who sews, you did a pretty good job! Sometimes the project is harder based on the type of fabric you use. Also some of your lines weren’t as even. I use a TON of pins to hold my pieces together for the best lines:) and don’t be afraid if you mess up! You can always go back and try again!
Pins are everything. Hell, if a fabric is too stretchy for my old ass machine, I'd rather sew by hand and make sure I have a straight line than put a million holes via sewing machine into my fabric lol. She actually did a good job with this. If she had a stretchy fabric, this would have come out looking a hot mess. My first ever piece was crooked and mismatched. This is much better than mine lol
Pants/shorts pattern: double your fabric. Fold your pants in half, so the butt is facing you. Trace and cut, so you now have two (2) back pieces. Fold the pants again in half, this time the crotch (front) of the pants is facing you. Again, trace and cut with seam allowance, coming out with two (2) front pieces. Boom, you now have a pants pattern WITH a crotch lol. Make sure to label which pieces are which. It's not hard to remember, since the back pieces usually have a "lip" or extra hanging out section, different from the front (you'll now when you see it, if you ever do this). But still label just in case. Loved this episode and can't wait to see more
Don't forget to add 1cm on each edge for seam allowance. It may also help to have a grid witten up of your measurements in a tight or fitted , relaxed and very relaxed for easy reference. Get someone else to measure them as it is more accurate than taking them yourself.
Very good first attempt! I remember in Jr. high school I found some fabric and asked my mom if I could make a skirt out of it. She agreed but I think she knew exactly what it would come out looking like in the end. Let's just say that I didn't account for seams and the only way it would go on was if l turned it upside down! My legs barely fit in the waist opening that was now the bottom. Needless to say, I never wore that "skirt" out of my bedroom because l couldn't take more than a step or two without falling. 🤣😂
Cleantha Estrada I agree. Mia, when you buy brand new zippers, you have to wash and dry them first before you put them in the prewashed fabric. Otherwise, the zippers will shrink and pucker up your fabric when you wash the outfit for the first time. Always prewash and dry all of your supplies before you begin to sew. Hope this tip helps you in the future.
It’s very hard to transfer a “ pattern” from a knit fabric to a woven fabric because they act and fit so differently. Kudos to you for taking this challenge. A centre front and back seam would have helped the pants fit better in the woven fabric.
I really want this to be a series. I can’t sew but I love watching videos of people transforming thrifted clothes. Also you did amazing, sweetie! The pants especially looked pretty good.
Not too bad! At 27 years old I couldn’t do that!! I haven’t used a sewing machine in years so I don’t even remember the ins & outs of using one! I can hand sew decently though, but that would take forever! Haha! Not too shabby, Mia!
In all honestly that isnt a bad outfit. I think that that print isnt so flattering meaning... The pattern is going in all different directions. Maybe try something with a pattern that way the mistakes are more easily hidden...
Amazing outfit girl!!! wow, for someone who's not experienced in making clothing like a professional designer, you did an absolutely fantastic job!!! and you should definitely do more of this!!
I’ve been binge watching you all day and I honestly love how you’re so full of variety. One day is something you bought, next it’s you making an entire outfit and then the next you’re buying your house😂 I love you 💜
7:07 this happened while I am literally hand-sewing a dress for myself. I am a fashion designer HAHAHA I cringed juuust a little bit. But, girl, that's how you learn things. Don't stop, keep trying and who knows what the future holds? ;D
colleen mair it’s more like you fold the pants in half then connect the crotch seams and the sides !!!! You’re suppose to have a total of 4 actually cause the butt part of the pants is slightly bigger so ( front half left , front half right ) and then the same for the back ( back half left , back half right ) 4 pieces to make pants hopes this helps (:
I totally thought this turned out really well! I suck at stuff like this, so I loved it! It looked a lot better than I originally thought it was going to. I think it turned out looking almost professional. I really loved it!
I actually love this and I’m learning so much from the comments too! Like the thought of prewashing a zipper never crossed my mind haha. I’d also have to do a refresher course on rethreading a bobbin.
I love the concept of the outfit. And I love the fabric.. You didn't do a terrible job. I mean in my opinion I think it looks cute... And I am all about videos like this. I LOVE it!!!
I really liked this video, love the concept and would love to see more. Had a friend who made a bad 90s jumper into a cute purse/boho bag. Would love to see you try this!!
You should make it a series, I absolutely love these kinds of videos and how you did it was different from a lot of youtubers and I personally prefer how you did it. xx
The word for when you fix up old thrifted clothes is “upstyle” or “upcycle”. Love these types of videos. So many clothes to be upcycled and as someone who is on the same level with sewing you did such a good job, not sure I could do it!
Im so proud of you! I cant sew but im still really happy that you still uploaded something like this even if you are not a pro. It would be really nice to watch you "grow" into this sewing series. I would really love to watch more videos like this of you! :)
For a beginner this is pretty great! I’ve sewn for 7 years now and the thing that (from what I can tell) will help you most is ironing! Make sure you iron open seams after they’re sewn and hems before you do them. It’ll make your fabric less bumpy. Also watch coolirpa and Annika Victoria!!
My mom taught me how to sew back when I wanted to make build a bear clothes too lol crazy coincidence. I've been trying to improve my skills too 😊 Love your videos!!!
I think the pants would be so cool! Would love for you to make another flowy pant cause I really wanna try that too 😍 Also I think it would be cool to make some old dresses more stylish by adding belts and beadings, colouring the fabric and doing some cuts and alterarions. For example I’ve seen shirt-dresses transformed into a wrap dress. Really loved this so I definitely should make it a series😄
I've been thinking for a long time we should put the brake on "fast fashion" and start learning how to sew! I'm old enough to remember when " Homemaking" and "Shop" we're electives. I made one skirt and that was it. I wish I'd learned and carried the lesson through. You go girl!
If you want tutorials and advice on how to upcycle stuff, the a dress a day blog is awesome. Your mom is super cute and I love this! You did good for your first upcycle
Love this series!!! That outfit actually looks good? I feel like if you used like a plain black or light pink fabric, it would’ve looked super cute. This makes me want to try and make my own outfit!! 💓
"Jo blo like memo"

She cracks me up😂💜

Hahahahah, oh so different!
That moment when you find a mia video you haven't seen yet and you're shook
Omg thats exactly me every time! I always think that ive watched all her videos and random ones just pop up!

That literally happened to me lol!!
Just happened to me, I was all sad because I thought I ran out of Mia and momma maples to watch
Not for me because I do remember watching this and the videos that do come up, I still have watched those😂
ok but like the pants actually turned out really well. the shirt needs work but honestly it’s better than what I could’ve done so I mean props to you. maybe for now just wear the pants with a black top?

Annabelle Bouldin I think the tops ok

Nice tip! Thanks
You're educated! Unlike me....

mia: "say bye emma"
emma: bye emma
me: lol
I feel like this'd be something awesome that she could do with her mom 😁
Tiffani Schaeffer OK maybe
You could *make* a *prom dress* , you always try some on, so maybe you could try making one ^^
Very good first attempt! I remember in Jr. high school I found some fabric and asked my mom if I could make a skirt out of it. Not too bad! At 27 years old I couldn’t do that!! I haven’t used a sewing machine in years so I don’t even remember the ins & outs of using one! I can hand sew decently though, but that would take forever! Haha!
Not too shabby, Mia!
suddenly my age sounds like I am living in a complete different universe. (27 as well)
The pants actually turned out pretty damn well 👏 ... I mean for thrift clothes 😂
Jenna F there’s nothing wrong with thrift clothes. They’re literally regular clothes.
@@silveracampiglia yeah exept they're used
In all honestly that isnt a bad outfit. I think that that print isnt so flattering meaning... The pattern is going in all different directions. Maybe try something with a pattern that way the mistakes are more easily hidden...

Creative Cheers of Fashion Laura Flohr my exact thoughts 😂
Creative Cheers of Fashion Laura Flohr that is what i though🤣
Can you explain what it should look like? 😊
colleen mair it’s more like you fold the pants in half then connect the crotch seams and the sides !!!! You could have made the same comment without being condescending...
I think the word u were looking for was upcycling
I totally thought this turned out really well! I suck at stuff like this, so I loved it! It looked a lot better than I originally thought it was going to. I think it turned out looking almost professional. I really loved it!

YAAASS KWEEEEN!!! Love this new series❤️❤️❤️
YAY !! XOXO
fatika wardani **Queen** sorry I am a spell freak

The bottoms look really good though
Yay thrift shopping
YAY !!
Mia Maples OMG I love ur vids 💖
Anyone else notice the wedding attire in the background?
No, but now I'm curious
Yes I did. I just thought she'd make a beautiful bride.
I actually love this and I’m learning so much from the comments too! Like the thought of prewashing a zipper never crossed my mind haha. I’d also have to do a refresher course on rethreading a bobbin.

You should make it a series, I absolutely love these kinds of videos and how you did it was different from a lot of youtubers and I personally prefer how you did it. xx
Living for the moomoos tropical pattern. It reminds me of something one would wear to a hippie festival. Living. Nice job

Can we please make this a series, coz like I haven't seen the whole video yet but I am already in love with the idea. 😍😍

one of my most favorite video of yours
omg thank you !!
U did a good job mia seriously 👍👍👍👍 it looks beautiful and it seriously looks like that it has been made by a professional seriously 👌👌👌👍👍👍👍
I wish you would do this type of thing more! I absolutely loved watching this. You're so creative with your style.

The two piece outfit was amazing. #loveit
I fricken loved this video. Soooo up my alley. Good job!!!
I was not confident at first, but that is so freaking cute for a first try. Great job!! Love it!!
A white t-shirt or tank would look really cute with those bottoms! Very good for a first attempt. I couldn't even do that well on a first try !
It’s sooooooo much better then anything I could do!!
Great video! You will only get better the more you work on it!!
My mom taught me how to sew back when I wanted to make build a bear clothes too lol crazy coincidence. I've been trying to improve my skills too 😊 Love your videos!!!
I've been binge watching your videos all day, love love love you! I really wish you'd continue this series!

Loved this video!
I really enjoy to transform old clothes as well, but I sew with hand, it tooks more time but the result is better, in my opinion. :)
TheIvett93 sadly some people can’t do by hand. I find when I was sewing by hand it would actually make my hands go numb D:
I love this! Make more videos like these😭❤️
More coming !!
Mia Maples yay!!!💜💜💜
Noo the pattern on the top is sideways lol
I've been thinking for a long time we should put the brake on "fast fashion" and start learning how to sew! I'm old enough to remember when " Homemaking" and "Shop" we're electives. I made one skirt and that was it. I wish I'd learned and carried the lesson through. You go girl!

Do more videos like this!!! This was so cool
I think it's actually GOOD!
Mia: "Say bye Emma"
