got my 2016 1 series 120d in january and i love it, they’re good cars i wish mine came with that sunroof you have tho haha
You can do mods on pcp as long as you put it back to standard when retuning the car. And a PCP is a much better option then a HP finance as you can exit out of the contract.
fair, but you never own the car and essentially paying money to rent the car (plus interest on a deprecating asset), and throwing money down to the train, where HP you will own the car and therefore thousands in equity to put towards your next car or sell for cash.

Great video Brett. Very informative and interesting at the same time. Especially helpful for me since I’m planning to get a F20 LCI 120i for myself as well. I got quoted around £1500-2000 for insurance though. I’m turning 25 and have held my license for almost 2 years now. How did you get yours so low?
Im 23 have 3 years no claims and my insurance on the M4 is £1100. My M140i championship edition costs me 1250 and thats a factory modded car with LSD and theres only 30 of them. Its all down to where you live and your life circumstances eg. 6 vehicles at your address makes it cheaper and job titles make a huge difference too
Always put a secondary named driver on your policy. Most people put their parents down on to the insurance.

Depends on the car. I’m second year driving (18) no no claims and pay 730 for a 1.4 a3

Very smart with your money unlike me 🤦🏻♂️ Took out too many credit cards in my early teens 10 years ago and got into serious debt. Now, for my 2018 BMW F20, I pay an eye watering £480/mo hp for 5 years (4 years left), £100/mo insurance (can’t believe it’s cheaper if you’re self employed in tech), £55 diesel (lasts 550 miles, £145 tax, and I’ve lost count how many car washes I go through each week, possibly £60/mo. Its definitely worth paying for considering my last car was a shitty unreliable Peugeot 208 😅
My dad bought a 65 plate 188d last year he's one year into payment of 3 years at 360pcm his insurance is about 650 and has £0 road tax and same amount of diesel
I nearly ended up that way, got into some credit card debt, then needed a bank loan to pay it off, started spiralling. Luckily I got a new job that got me some decent money and i managed to sort it all out before it got too out of hand and I’m 6 months away from being debt free and with a good credit score. (Well debt free besides my car PCP which is £175 a month for a 65 plate118d sport) lesson for young people coming out fo education is bloody make sure your credit score is good and don’t get into debt!
John Peterson Great advice, John. Money management wasn’t covered much in my high school 15 years ago. I saw credit cards like a magic pot of money, and the banks were very eager to give me large credit limits. Living in London is quite costly so I might be debt free in 20 years lol. For now though, I enjoy driving and cleaning my car everyday, and have driven nearly 20k miles since I got it last Sept.
POV Driving Tour yeah schools definitely need to cover being smart with money. The problem is if everyone was saving and not spending money like they should then the economy would go to crap because the government rely on us splashing money for tax revenue. If we all hoarded money they’d probably raise income tax; But that’s neither here nor there.
Yeah I have a 118D sort, had it only 3 months but I’m loving it still. I don’t have that power thirst of needing to upgrade to a faster car like I did with my crappy 1.25 fiesta, I think I’ll stick it out with this car, pay it off, and if my financial situation is good in a few years I’ll get a better car if not I’ll stick it out longer.

If your car doesn't require premium 99 octane petrol you don't need it. Save your money mate, regular petrol is so cheap atm aswell.

Got a 65 plate 118d sport, cost £8,999 at a dealership which was a bloody great price, I was looking at 116d sports online at no cheaper than £9,500 so 500 cheaper for a 2L instead of a 1.5 is great. I have a PCP at £175 a month, not sure if it’s over 4 or 5 years. £0 deposit too so great affordable monthly price. If I could go back I probably woudknt get a finance out because it makes saving and renting and mortgages harder to sustain and obtain but what’s done is done and thankfully my new job pays well enough to not feel it too much. I think it’s slightly irresponsible to get a finance to be honest, I think I’ll be advising against them for my little girl when she’s older lmao.
Oh and my insurance is £125 a month, absolutely no idea why I have 2 years no claims and I’m 22 and it’s parked in a drive, probably my area or something.

Great video! Have you read your owners manual? Because some cars manufacturers recomend not to use premium fuels as it can do more harm than good with the additives they add.
Not that finance is shocking , but go bank loan next time , better interest rates , I’m 19 and run a 4 series bmw , and it’s still doable. got my insurance for slightly less than yours which is crazy 😂

I drive a 2016 120D and its only £30 tax for the year - also got mine on pcp, but with no deposit, and a previous cars settlement figure added on top, I'm paying out my arse for it 🤦♂️over £300 a month
Just got a 118m Shadow and insurance is only £340 and im 24. 4 years NCD.
You don’t need to give the car back after a PCP, a lot of places, Merc, BMW & VAG will allow you to finance the amount of the balloon payment over another 2/3 years or whatever 👍🏼

Didn’t think about putting the premium petrol into mine, bought it recently (18 plate) keeping it for a long while so may start doing it
Yeah it may just help the engine last longer and be more healthy! Worth the extra couple of pounds per tank! Also meant to be better on fuel
I was always told you really don’t have to as long as it has a full service every year and on top of that if you really want to just occasionally once you run dry of fuel put in like half a tank of premium fuel. No need to fill it with premium every singe time.
Make sure you change the fuel filter every year or two, theres no need for premium fuel.

I have passed for 2 years and 4 months ish, and with only 1 years ncb i can get a bmw 116D or even 118D for £1080 a year with £50 voluntary excess
My 120d sport has an annual tax bill of £36. Crazy for a diesel

Yeah I did and the tune was just over £250 but the rest were very cheap

Hi mate, I’m an 18 year old looking to buy a 1 Series. I have 2 questions. Firstly does your insurance have a black box for that price and second, how were you able to qualify for finance at such a young age. Thanks
not sure how old he is as its my first time watching but for you im pretty sure you can cosign with your parents so interest wont be super high but not sure if thats how it works where you live
I was able to get the finance as it was such a small amount and my insurance is without a black box. Black boxes end up being more expensive most times
In Ireland the tax on a normal car can be up to 800 euro..depending on engine size and year..real rip off..

Premium fuels a rip off
I'ts all marketing for the smallest improvement
@@Pricey96 it actually burns faster than normal fuel and if you use good engine oil then it'll stay good
Premium fuel does have it’s benefits. I filled my 4x4 up with it and drove a 6 hour journey to the Lake District; it actually done just over 100 miles more on a tank, than standard fuel on the way home. I also tried it once in my Ninja ZX6R bike, the throttle response improved a lot. Saying that, I don’t use it in my BMW just to drive to work.
But in the uk, we see it as a rip off due to it burning faster and people with supercars use that. BMW are built for drifting etc therefore normal fuel should be good enough as the premium fuel doesn't last as long, at least that's what is my verdict on it.
Id never do finance again, i got rear ended in my works van last year, signed of work for a year and 9 months of physio, this ment no income, so the car got repo'd i lost £6500, on the plus side, i bought a 120d 1 series, and im "older" so £213 full comp, you cant modify a car on hp or finance, as you dont ownt it.
Rear ended? Did you not get a pay out either by the work van insurance or the fella who rear ended you?
You can almost always modify cars on finance, just have to contact the finance company before hand and also reverse modifications if you give the car back

My insurance on BMW 420i it’s £1170 and I’m 18 and got my licence 7/8 months ago. No idea why it’s that cheap.

Also bought a bmw 1 series in lockdown i have the 116d great cars wish i had the cash deposit like yourself though, mines on pcp but because i went to bmw they have there own finance i can swap the balloon payment fo hp
