I’m north of Detroit, north of the border in a small market, I’ve never encountered hidden tips (1069 deliveries). But I’ve been asked to pickup orders from Home Depot once in a while. Which I refused because I drive a Mini Cooper ( what’s the order? a 8 foot 2x4 or a box of nails?) I’ve been offered two orders from a craft store and once from Walmart. I’ve refused because I don’t know what it is. I excepted a $20 dollar from petco which was actually 5 orders for $4 a piece I did a lot cursing and won’t except anything but restaurant delivers. The petco delivery had two small bails of hay for rabbits. A bag of live crickets and expensive cat and dog food, it took most of my car space. I love the idea of doordash expanding but I want to know what I’m getting into before I accept a order.

I think there should be a disclaimer for orders with anything that is alive.
Also, there should also be an alert when an order is presented to a dasher when the delivery contains an item weighing 25 pounds or more. I had a 38 pound dog food bag I had to deliver. I’m a small female with a bad back and a bad shoulder, and the bag was on the bottom shelf, plus I had to carry it up the walkway which was probably 20 stairs. I was hurting the next day. I’ve seen other dashers out that…there is just no way they could physically carry this bag. Most places only require you to be able to carry up to 25lbs. “Oversized item” would have been a nice warning so I could have set up my car better to get the bag in and out.

You are right about the 6.25 order in some markets but you may not realize why you're right. In other markets the minimum is 6.50 or 6.75.
You're also wrong about the orders with larger amounts on it going longer distances. Hidden tips are still on these.

I noticed this when I started driving for DD in 2020. I rarely see any hidden tips. Customer tips for DD are very low in my area which is the largest county in my state and the last few months I can't even work unless I schedule a time! The whole reason I started driving for DD is because I could drive when I was able to. I am a single parent of a special needs son and am not able to work at scheduled times. So I have to find another company that lets me work whenever I can and I don't have to be in a certain area to get deliveries either with this other company. Much less stress and better pay doing the same job!

It's funny you mentioned about hidden tips. The other day my wife was declining orders that didn't make sense to her, then decided to pause her Dash, so that her acceptance rate would not drop severely and to also to drive to another area. On her way to another area, DD sent her a large order (while she was on pause) containing 16 items and was supposed to drive 2 miles to the customer. The base pay was $3. After she delivered those items there was no hidden tip. 🙄 My wife was insulted to the point that she called DD Support to complain. The representative told her that the pay was based on mileage. 🙄

DD shouldn’t be able to hide tips, miles, and area you will be delivering to. As independent contractors we should be provided that info before accepting. What other industry does independent contractors not know all the information needed before you accepting a job? Full transparency is needed

@bently I want to see every restaurant dd services on my map in real-time, so when I take a long-distance order that is out of my normal area or somewhere that has little to no stores to get other orders from i know how to plan accordingly. I am not going to keep checking the consumer side with no real location indication. a simple red dot over the store's address would be sufficient and may work better than only the 5 hot spots in my area of phoenix that half the time are dead anyways.

NO~... They are doing everything they can do to NOT add base pay. They are using the tip to make longer trips appear worth our time. This is not so much about showing full pay but still more about saving DD money.

Organizing as a unit and approaching them as such might get you some extra money. Drivers ask for transparency…DoorDash wants longer orders delivered. Let’s meet in the middle and see how it works. It’s called compromise

Makes sense, I usually do shop a deliver orders since they have full pay and have decent milage as well. My market is filled with shop and deliver so it’s good for me, but now that holiday season is over I attempted to deliver hot food and I did this and I made 140 in 3 hours. You gotta take the random pay random milage orders and those usually come with tips. Like you said those 4 mile 6.50 dollar orders usually pay out to 9-12 dollars. Good vid !

Please make a video on how bad support is. For example: I had a cvs order for about $11.50 as soon as I got there I hit arrived at store and clicked on begin shopping, then the entire order disappeared. I contact support and they always say we value you as a dasher 🤮(bs) then say the order was canceled and I can not be compensated for it. So I lose out every which way, loss of tip, loss of mileage, loss of gas, and loss of time. Also why can’t we get a support person we can understand, all these people I get on the phone sound like the people at my nearest Chinese restaurant. DoorDash doesn’t care about you they only care about deliveries being delivered. Try this, pick up an order, but make sure it’s an expensive order, call support and fake to them that you ALMOST got into an accident and that the food went all over the car. Free food for you, customer gets refunded, and door dash takes the hit.

The theory of high mileage trips showing the entire total before you deliver is not true at all in my area.
I've just had three orders this week all over 10 miles that had noticeable hidden money on each order.
And if you are in the catering program the order comes through just looking like a regular order with a large item count and is not listed as catering and they do not even ask you if you have a catering bag until after you accept the order.
All three of the orders I mentioned from this past week were between 10 and 15 miles and 15 and $20 when I accepted them.
The lowest additional money I got on any one of the three orders was $5.60 and the other two orders had eight and $9 extra respectively that were not listed with the initial offer so even over 10 miles this theory is not true in my market.

  • @Wetzelsucks
    @Wetzelsucks 2 года назад +27

This has been a thing for a while. More of the “hidden tip” is shown in the preview amount as the mileage increases. By the time it hits 7 miles, you’ll see full subtotal before acceptance

I dont take any orders under $9..aswell as the payout needs to be more than the miles driven. Also for shopping orders,I try not to take ones that has too much items, since that can take up alot of time, and it also tends to make me late, considering DD doesn't seem to consider the time it takes to look for the items and whatnot..

I honestly will only take the order if it meets my criteria, I don’t care if there’s a hidden tip or not. I’ll look and assume it may have one and get maybe a lil excited, but unless it will pay me what I would initially require, I won’t take it. You can leave those low dollar orders to the new dashers who haven’t learned they’re allowed to decline as much as they’d like haha, we’ve all been victim to those shitty no tip orders when we were noobs.

my market has had this type of pay forever, your missing one valid point on the longer drives. they do show full payout on bad long orders. most orders are hidden around 1.50 per mile, so a 8 mile delivery will cap out around 12.50ish and so on. on 10 mile + deliveries it seems they cap it around 19.50 in my experience with this pay model. they still do not show full payout on longer orders but will if its under 1.50 a mile if that makes sense :D. if pay is above 2$ a mile its hidden around 1.49-2$
