That was really interesting! I'll listen to "the disappearance of Hatsune Miku" with even more pleasure now that I know it was inspired by this event. It's very impressive that they deleted every hint of her on the internet. Long live Miku!
I thought Disappearance of Hatsune Miku was made when vocaloid had a very low popularity. Disappearance of Hatsune Miku was supposed to be her last song before she gets scrapped because she wasn't making enough money for them. But somehow Disappearance ended up saving Hatsune Miku and Vocaloid and boosted her popularity by a lot.
I never knew The Disappearance was based on real events, that makes me see the song in a new light. I always thought the topic was a fear of an event in the future, not something that had already happened in the past.
As someone who was online at that time, it wasn't just Japan that Miku disappeared from, and it wasn't just Miku. Internet searches I performed at the time gave no useful results for any Vocaloid, or any other speech to singing application, even though just a few weeks previously it did give results. And I thought it very suspicious when not long after, Big companies were integrating text to speech and speech to text in all sorts of things.
This is really weird, when we consider that the 1st VOCALOIDs were not even remotely otaku stuff, of the otaku culture ones on the 1st version of the software, only MEIKO and KAITO existed and without an avatar like they have now. They really did a big purge/damage control that can definitely be said backfired marvelously.

Fascinating video, I always wondered what that song was inspired by! I thought perhaps it was inspired by/about a vocaloid user whose Hatsune Miku program had become corrupted beyond repair and unfortunately that meant having to do a complete reinstall (but in doing so it would "kill" Miku, because even if they reinstalled the software it would no longer be the same Miku, she would have none of her past memories or experiences). So the song was sort of the old, corrupted Hatsune Miku singing as the software was being deleted (hence also the mention of a recycling bin). But the fact that it was actually inspired by this other real life event is fascinating as well! It lends new meaning to the song, meaning which I will be on the lookout for next time I listen to Disappearance of Hatsune Miku. I'm glad her story didn't end there, because then I would've never discovered such an amazing and creative community or music. Will there come a day when her popularity fades and Hatsune Miku becomes just a footnote in the annals of internet history? Probably someday, but hopefully no time soon. After all, everything fades, but even so I hope that her memory will live on even if only in old internet records and the minds of a few. Everything, everyone, dies someday. However, today is not that day! So for now, let us simply enjoy Hatsune Miku and all the incredible content created by such incredibly talented, creative people! And thanks to Crypton for creating such a tool and multiple Vocaloids that allowed those same people to create what they did!

Bom...
