  • Making A Wall Hanging Clock out of a sample piece of Walnut Veneer (That i got send for my upcoming desk build) which i then laminated to a piece of plywood. I then cut some strips of contrasting pine to thickness and laminated them together to form a circle around the edge of the plywood piece. Then i made some small wooden tabs to serve as timing markers and attached a red clock mechanism.
Thanks a lot for watching and if you have any questions or criticisms please leave them in the comments! (A dislike tells me nothing)
As a side note, i think it is really important so show your failures - its the only way you learn - so i included them all in this video.

EDIT: Looking back on this project, if i were to make it again, i would apply any veneer to the other side of the plywood as this will held to stop it from bowing and cupping in the future

I like this woodworking book “pepe amazing plan” (Google it). Some of the topics talked about in the book include woodwork strategies, description on the progress cycles of trees, and various lumber features which carpenters favor. I also gave my dad another copy.

Great idea ;) a small tip: maybe you should secure the mechanism with a nut to the clock so It won't rotate on the wall :) Otherwise keep up the good work ;)

      Thanks a lot, appreciate it!
Good observation - you're right, this mechanism is only for 8mm boards whereas mine was 10mm, so i had to remove the nut and just put the hands in. However this mechanism isn't going to be the actual one i use long term, I only used it because i couldn't get one the right sized in time for the video. So yes when i get the right mechanism i will use a nut and it won't rotate!

You did a great job. I haven't worked much with veneer. That was very interesting. Thanks for sharing. Oh! I had the same problem finding the ends of tape so I started folding it once I'm done. Hope that helps.

Thanks a lot - yeah this was only the second time i'd worked with veneer. Will try the folding tip although i will probably forget after a few times

Be careful with background music. It seems to come from a radio or so.
    Keep up the good work.

The topics covered in this woodworking book “pepe amazing plan” (Google it) ranges from wood types to tool types as well as uses. It also tells you regarding the various kinds of wood and how easy or difficult they`re to work with. This book has been very useful and is a good one for somebody just getting into woodworking.

Little tip lay down some kitchen grease proof paper before glue up . will not stick to work bench then. Not that i have done it myself but have you thought of making a steam bender? Basically a length of 100mm plastic pipe with one end capped and sealed the other end a removable cap maybe 18 ply , and a hole in the middle to accept the hose of a steam wallpaper stripper .Apparently works well on thin strips for laminating and edge banding. Cheers.

Thanks for the comment Michael - yeh that would of definitely helped, i remember to do it for the former but not the bench, haha! I have thought about a steam bender, but i don't do enough bending to justify it - this information might be useful for someone in the comments if they want to make one though :)
