This is super helpful! Roundabout has got to be the most difficult bass line I've ever tried to play and I love how you break it down little by little. One thing I was surprised you didn't mention, though, was how Chris used the thumb on his left hand to hit the F sharp on that "main riff." I tried it and it really is easier than trying to use the index or middle finger. Thanks again for these awesome lessons.
What a good job.I've played bass for nearly 50 years but mostly finger style.I could never figure it out but I've been trying to hone my plectrum use. It'll take some practice getting the ghost notes but I'm slowly getting better. You're the best video on this lick anywhere.👍
I'm pretty much a beginner on bass, only playing for a few months. This song will be the first really challenging thing I try on bass, pretty much like a student driver who wants to drive in a NASCAR race. Glad I came here first. I wouldn't have thought to use a pick.
I've seen books with this song and the 16th notes are not even charted due to the difficulty level. I pick with my fingers and learning this decades ago was very hard and took a long time. Very Good lesson. Thanks very much.
Doesn't sound like he's gliding the syncopated note from A up to B. He just makes the note (A) an 8:th note long and then continues with B D E at the end of the bar. I've listened to it at very low speed and I cannot hear the B note at all. Watch the star licks video here on youtube at 9:58.
Im gonna be coming back to this vid for months untill i get it right 😂. I am trying to do it w fingers cause my picking is super dirty, but i might have to work on my pick technique

I don't agree with your dead note on the b. Your interpretation does not flow well, it's choppy. And you are the only person I've ever heard play it that way.
If its a multipart video? why not put a to be continued transition at the end.
Quattro 4 haha! Good idea
Omg
Lmao he missed the chance

seeing the pick up/down strokes has really helped-thanks!
That ghost note btween the hammer on to B and the open D is a killer to get right
How to play Roundabout on bass: grow three more fingers on each hand.

Heart of the Sunrise's opening riff is the easiest to learn, Roundabout has been the other I've been wanting to do as well, this really helps
To be continued..
I didn’t not come here because of Jojo. I do like the song without Jojo tho

the dislikes are fans of the band 'no'

I thought I needed a Rickenbacker to get this vibe but you nailed it on the P bass!

I never use a pick and am trying to do this my fingers. Ack!
Geddy Lee plays this using his fingers; good luck!
Same
Same
Me either but it’s actually not that hard
Befuftlefumpter yeah you just have to have fast fingers and it’s really easy
Chris Squire used a Plectrum but he also used his finger to strike the string a millisecond afterwards and this gave the notes the “twang”.
OMG DUDE THX SO MUCH
when i did it slowly
i can hear the bass riff
THX SO MUCH!!!!!!!
I'm play this on the bass and my stand will play it on the guitar. Then I'm gonna ora ora ora all the way home.
I LOVE THAT BASSLINE!!!
Puuurfect explanation!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to the point! Excellent playing. Thank you!

I’m gonna have to go to guitar center and try this on a Rickenbacker
the zig-zag picking on the A string is still impossible to me.... @__@
Chris Squire used a US quarter or an English 2P piece as a pick
Damn. I didn't know that. Thanks for the trivia!
That's why it's so hard to nail his sound on bass

Yes! That "B" is ghosted. Most people play that wrong.
my dumbass has been practicing this finger style it'll never click with me how to play with pick XD
the moment when you learn bass just because you are a jojo fan
Can someone actually play this fingerstyle?
I can 😎
*was
I fuckin hate playing with a pick
I was scared that he was chugging in this song
Is that a jojo's reference ( but isn't a bass is me DIO)
No pick
Is that a jojo reference?!
Sorry that I had at the last comment but I want to say nice on the 69thing
Aaaand another bass player playing this wrong. He's hammering on and OFF the B, to the A (on the A string)

"Part 1"
Figures.
It would be better, if he didn't use a pick
No...it wouldn't
