Here's what Henson says about the tungsten bushing. "We have equipped our razor with a tungsten bushing which serves one purpose: to reduce friction while tightening the razor. This creates a smooth feel, with little torque required to clamp the blade in place. Tungsten has a very low coefficient of friction and is fairly hard, as well as being very corrosion resistant, so it serves well as a bushing in this application. Additionally, the reduced friction will result in less wear between the handle and the base plate."
Great video ! Lady shaver here. I purchased a Henson mild in red a few months back. It’s a spectacular shave. Sadly, the red is wearing off the edges in the top cap after about 12 shaves. I reached out to customer service. To date they have not replied to several emails. There website has also changed several times. From 40 for just the razor, to 50 for the razor and 100 Astra blades. Now it’s 50 for the razor and a pack of Astra blades. Now they have a titanium version coming out for 200 bucks. A little high price I think. A Rockwell S is 100. Needless to say, you described the razor beautifully !
Thanks! I'm sorry to hear about your troubles with customer service. I do believe $50 is a fair price for the razor. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a Ti razor under $200 but I do agree that is a lot of money to spend on a razor and certainly not for everyone.
This is now a 70$ razor, so nearly not as entry level as it was before. The Rockwell 6c remains a 50$ razor, and probably the best beginning razor in the game now. Great video and excellent review ! It's interesting how quickly they increased the price.
I started traditional wet shaving about 11 months ago. I only own the Henson AL13 Mild version. I absolutely love this razor. To make the razor more "aggressive" you simply use a sharper blade such as the Feather. The new version from what I understand has many improvements which make it even better. However, I have no plans on upgrading to the new version. I highly recommend this razor if you are transitioning over from a cartridge razor.
Here is what Henson had to say about the AL13 aluminum razor: "The design of the Henson Razor involves pressing the blade into a radius, bending the edges to achieve the 30° blade and shave angles, and introducing tension on the blade. In conjunction with short free-end and clamp distances, the result is an extraordinarily rigid blade edge."..... "Similar to raking leaves, the raking or cutting area becomes saturated and no longer functions correctly. At this point, the razor is being moved across your skin without effective cutting, leading to razor burn. Additionally, the shaving effectiveness becomes sporadic and unpredictable, leading to a "start-stop" shaving action where a portion of the blade will alternate between effective and non-effective. This unpredictable shaving action can result in unexpected changes in cutting performance which can increase the chance of nicks. We designed large and ergonomically shaped channels, allowing the movement of cut hairs to be as free flowing as possible from the blade tip to where it exits the base. This allows for a larger window of safe and effective shaving, with a more gradual and predictable reminder of when rinsing is needed. In fact, our razor is so effective in allowing free flowing cut hairs, that you could go through a whole shave without rinsing once."
Great review !! I've been using a blue Henson Medium for the last 2 1/2 weeks with a variety of blades. My top blades were Voskhod, Personna Red, Shark Platinum, Astra SP, Gillette Nacet.
I just tried some EverSharp blades and they worked really well. Been using Astra Green, Feather, Kai, Persona Red, etc. This razor seems to rock with them all!
Hi! When you say that the medium is (slightly) more aggressive than the mild razor, what does that translate to? More blade feel or more efficiency? Are they equally smooth (i.e no blade feel)?
Excessively large - and therefore wasteful - packing. It would be more environmentally friendly (& probably cheaper for the company) to have packaging that is no bigger than necessary to accommodate the razor. The contrast with the packaging for the Leaf Twig is stark.

Neat! I must have missed that. I can definitely vouch that it is the smoothest threading I have experienced so I guess it works!

This is my goto razor! I switch between this and the leaf when it comes to head shaves, but Henson for my all purpose face shaves.

Great job! You are very good at explaining . Did you prefer the medium over the mild?
Thank you.
Great video
The washer is a carbide insert to keep from squishing the aluminum down.
Excuse me tungsten
I saw a vid on it where the guy loosened the handle 1/4 of a turn and the razor was more efficient

how do i know if i need the mild or medium
Probably mild, being as you are female and will only be shaving body hair rather than whiskers
