Die.” (bringing it back to point 8), and Erwin says “thank you”. They were always what the other needed. Levi needed to have someone other than himself he could trust without regret and Erwin needed a fighter like levi for his plans to work so that he wouldn’t regret all the deaths they brought. When the moment came for Erwin to have to make a choice against his selfish desires (something he would regret), Levi is the one who chooses for him, neither of them had regretful decisions bc they had each other.

Levi has never had a happy life, he can't imagine what life would look like if humanity is victorious over the titans but he thinks Erwin can see it. He doesn't follow Erwin because of his stoicism, focus or genius strategic mind he follows him because of his vision. That and because it's the only choice that makes Isabel and Furlong's death have meaning because it lead to him joining the scouts.

I’m so sorry, I still can’t keep names straight except for Ronnie 😂, but to the guy second from left-THANK YOU for noticing that Levi and Armin have the same heart and compassion for humanity. I know they argued with pretty much everything you said (and I actually agree with them because in my opinion Erwin’s ability to shut off his humanity is something Levi hates about him) BUT I so agree with you that Armin and Levi are very much alike on the inside. The difference is that Levi has learned to keep his emotions under control and hidden-but he feels them just as deeply as Armin, who wears them on his sleeve.
If we compare Levi here vs when he saw his squad dead (petra and co) and how he kept his cool vs the female titan, we can see that he sorta acted like Erwin did in this scene. So i kinda see that point but i think it’s more like he’s caring but he learnt to keep his cool so that he can still make the right decisions and not let his anger / stubbornness lead to more fatalities. He became the person to tell others to remain cool. He told his squad to calm down when Eren accidentally transformed to hold the spoon and he told Mikasa to calm down when she was about to chase the Female Titan.
I'm so glad you decided to watch this OVA after S1. It could also be watched before ep 17, because it ties in with something Levi says in the main anime.

I would say Levi RESPECTS Erwins ability to keep marching forward and see the greater good, the "something" bigger than just killing titans. He doesnt wish for that for himself because he knows who he is as a person, but he chooses to follow because that's a quality Erwin as the commander has. Levi doesnt want the position Erwin has nor is he envious of it because as he stated, he doesnt know what the right choices are. Levi is the strongest soldier and Erwin is the best leader. They have mutual respect for eachother and both stay in their independent roles. Also it was Levi's decision to go on with the mission Lobov gave him which in turn lead to his friends death, it wasnt Erwin that lead to their death but Levi's choice to go with that mission. That may not have happened if they had just followed Erwin in the beginning and did what the Scouts mission was supposed to be, but who knows for sure. They have a complex but great relationship where Erwin is the commander and Levi is his sharpest sword.
I think the way you're looking at the comparison of their group dynamic is off. There are more similarities when you view them like this: Levi = Mikasa [Extremely strong, stoic, protective of "family", reserved, willing to follow other's dreams/plans] Eren = Isabel [Freedom, honesty, determined but not naturally talented, "naive" in their approach or view of the world, passionate] Farlan = Armin [Smart, considerate, strategist of the trio, communicator] Also Isabel and Eren's eyes are similar in how they show emotion. They're also around the equivalent age when Levi meets them. Eren is like a much more angry and hate-fueled Isabel. I think Levi recognises that to an extent.

They greatly improve your understanding of the characters, their motivations and their relationships, it’s so good. For Ronnie, not sure if you're a manga reader, but I highly recommend the spin-off manga, "Bad Boy", which is about Levi's childhood. It was released about 6 or so months ago. Definitely don't share it with the others until after they finish AoT, as it contains some spoilers from s4.
I've yet to read the manga, but for sure will after this re-watch and I'll make sure to read the spin-off too, thanks for the suggestion :)

This show is a solid 10/10, but i dont like OVAs in AOT
We thought this one was really really good, gives you a lot more insight into some of the characters :)
Most anime OVAs are boring, but aot has even goated OVAs. This show never fails. I'll watch every bit they give me bc I'm sad aot finished
