This isn't a remake, it's an original song. He paid for the rights to use the sample from Vera Hall (the sample that you're probably familiar with from hearing in Moby's Natural Blues). So this is all Ren, more or less.
Leading up to this song, Ren released a series of 8 chapters, one per day, that tell his story in much more detail. They are remarkable! If you're interested in Ren's music, they provide lots of context and insight into his songs. I highly recommend watching them, but not necessarily reacting to them (some people have, others feel they are too personal). You can find them on his renmakesstuff channel, or in a "Troubles" playlist on his regular renmakesmusic channel.
Just an FYI, Ren fought through his illness from 19 - 26 until he finally got the stem cell treatment so he didn't start building his career until almost 27. Ren just turned 34 not long ago but that big smile, baby face & improved health is giving him a new lease on life & hopefully a long successful career.🙏❤ Great reaction, as always my friend. 👍.
The 8Chapters were a heartbreaking, insightful and sometimes funny reading by Ren of his health journey. Obviously difficult and emotional for him, he did it to fulfill a promise he made to the chronic illness community to shine light on them and offer hope if he ever got out the other side. This is Ren being his most ethical, society serving self. Beautiful Reaction. His next album now is song based and more experimental, he says.
For those who haven't yet... ya Gotta watch his story... all 8 chapters! (Must watch his life story, in 8 chapters, in his Troubles playlist!) His lyrics are Truly His Story... clawed at the laminate... I mean Come On Man!!!
I was about to tell you that it wasn't a retake but I see a couple of other people have already said that. Ren has said that he wants it to act as a full stop to the Sick Boi album. Hope is the way forward.
Ren has said this is the closure to the Sick Boi album. I think it's his transition as he's suggest the next album will be less rap and more guitar. (which for me is Ren's sweet spot). He released the chapters, and then this which in a way is the Cliff Notes of the chapters for Mental Health Month. He really is a treasure.
I second the recommendation to carve out some time to watch his Chapters (from his renmakesstuff channel). You don't have to react to them, but the experience is well worth the time invested.
have you listened to "do you believe"? it's not "country" per se but it definitely has that country vibe. also, it's fkn awesome and you'll definitely love it so, y'know!🙂
I think he wants to get it al out there so he can move on he did chapter's so ayone can get his whole story ..he wants to help but he doesn't want to be totally defined by it ❤

Yeah the many ways he uses that sample creatively in this track it's original, go listen to Vera Hall's Trouble So Hard lol it's quite distinct

Ren was born in 1990 so he is 34 years old.
No not a retake he produced the entire track apart from Vera Hall sample. He's 34 years old

Nice reaction, peaceful and I like how you listen first then react. Ren is a voice for all those who are voiceless battling Chronic Illnesses. Thanks.

Some people have said Hold On has a country like sound - I can see parts of it. But either way it is a great song.
