    Your instruction is impressive. I imagine that if you have students and/or children, they have a quality teacher in their lives.
    Thank you for this, I was going to pay to get it done on my truck and I would have to wait months. I felt I could do it on my own which led me to you.
    You have given me the confidence that I can do this on my own. Another win for ‘RUclipsUniversity’ haha.
    Much appreciated. Stay blessed.

      Hey I’m looking into this rack for my Gx. How noisy is it?

    • @gabriel-ec6gi
      @gabriel-ec6gi Год назад

      @@Andrew-on5doI just installed it on my GX. There is a slight creaking sound. I’m waiting for the rack to settle and re-tighten. I have a suspicion it’s coming from the lifting blocks/spacers that sit between the side rails and the vehicle roof. They should have made this a single piece, rather than a two piece assembly.

    Glad the installation went so smoothly! I also had to put a rack on my old Toyota Tacoma 4 door. I didn't have the shell tho. I'm still waiting on my new 12' Jackson Tupelo to be built, but once it's here I'm ready!

    Cool rack, I have been using the stock rack on my FJ Cruiser but I think I will go with some Thule crossbars soon for hauling my yak. Good video dude

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад +1

      Thanks! I was going to go with Thule or Yakima but decided that the Front Runner stuff was better suited for me. For the money, you can get sign Load Bars from Front Runner with the kayak carriers and it's a good bit cheaper than Thule or Yakima... It's not the actutal large trays, but just the individual slats. Just a thought.

    I would love to know why you got rid of the yak carriers. I just ordered and might return to save some coin if the yaks are secure without the racks and resting directly on the rack.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  2 года назад

      I just found that they weren't necessary for my uses. If I was carrying a nice touring kayak or a hard BOTE paddleboard (anything that could be really damaged by the metal) then I might have kept them on there. I ended up carrying inflatable paddleboards the vast majority of the time and never needed anything else. I did attach some slim padding with tape to the high points of the rack for a little cushion. With black tape, it blended in really well and still gave me a slim profile. I think I loaded 5 ISUP's on there one day!!! Loved the rack but sold the truck. Wish I had some @frontrunneroutfitters for my new 2021 F150! #frontrunner #frontrunneroutfitters #frontrunnerroofrack

    How's the wind noise affect on the rack if any? Loud whistling?

  • @firelight70
    @firelight70 8 лет назад

    I couldn't tell from the video; is the kayak sitting on the rack with the side supports keeping it from tipping, or are the side supports close enough that the kayak is sitting on the supports? I don't have any experience (yet) with loading kayaks, but it seems to me that the kayak should be supported by the supports to better distribute the load. Of course, maybe it's not up there long enough to really matter.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад +1

      Both, I tried to position the supports so the kayak is being supported by the supports and the rack. Yaks are pretty lightweight so I'm not really concerned. I think it's going to serve me very well.

    Quick question, would this rack be difficult/time consuming to remove the rack between trips. The parking at my office is around 2m high and my truck is 1890 high. (Leaving me 110mm clearance.

    I'd be curious how much a rack like that affects MPG (without kayak mounted, just the rack).
    Would love to have a rack strong enough to walk on.

    • @TripSmith
      @TripSmith  8 лет назад

      Yea, I'd be curious as well but I'm not to worried. The truck itself doesn't get awesome mileage and I didn't buy it for the gas mileage. So I'm not concerned on how it affected it but I don't think it would effect it to much. I can't hear any wind noise going down the road so I'm thinking it slips through fairly easily.

      thechosendude ive seen a general max of around 3mpg on the ones ive looked at and often lower, but loading it with stuff thats got bad wind resistence (how its loaded can be a lot to do with it) can often add that much or more again
