I don’t know if anyone watched the coronation of King Charles or episodes of The Crown regarding Elizabeth’s coronation, but it is strikingly similar to the initiatory. It would make sense that Ham trained his posterity in the religion of Noah, who was alive while Abraham was alive. Abraham was 56 when Noah died. Them was still alive. It makes sense that Ham would also be alive. Our endowment gives us keys to become kings and queens, the sons and daughters of God. The keys are the tokens we received, going through the veil is our passing to immortality. This is fascinating to say the least.

Abraham was substituted in for Osiris in funerary texts in Jewish settlements in Egypt. The Lion Couch scene is also a spell of protection over the tomb, Abraham inverts that in a poetic and almost chiasmus style to be a blessing from the tomb, death and hell. Abraham used like we use Adam. Based on an event from Abraham, it appropriated New Kingdom Egyptian characters to be a temple blessing.
IMO: The point of the "Books of Breathing" was to substitute yourself in for Osiris. The image is always Osiris but individuals would use their own names in the text. The fact that somebody made a "Books of Breathings" for Abraham isn't much evidence of anything other than they wanted Abraham to have one probably because they assumed he was buried without it. In this context it's more like doing baptism for the dead. The lion couch scene I'm familiar with, with Abrahams name, is in a Greek spell book. This indicates it came much later. The "Books of Breathing" Joseph Smith purchased were created for a man name "Hor". Hor was probably the mummy that was found with the book and possibly purchased by Joseph Smith as well. He was probably wealthy but certainly not royalty.
Great comment about the need to develop CHARACTER to obtain exaltation. That is why we follow Jesus. What do you think of the idea that even though the tabernacle and temple were used in times past that once Jesus was born, taught, died and was resurrected that there was no more need for temples due to he wanted to bring us to the Father directly?
I think whatever the Lord wants is what we do. Latter-day Saints believe the God hasn’t stopped revealing his will through prophets. And so if the Lord wants us to practice a different form of temple worship, we do. What you’re suggesting is one interpretation of scriptures put forth by Protestant reformers in the 1500s. And if we believed in sola scriptura we might engage in a scriptural discussion about whether that’s the right interpretation, or whether the Catholics and Orthodox have a better view, or someone else. But when you have a living spokesman relaying messages from the lord, you take what God says himself instead of the ideas of someone who is forming opinions about what god said in the past.
@@MommaCrissa O don't know of anywhere that Jesus says there are no more need of temples. In fact there are prophecies of future temples (the 3rd temple). @@joeshawcroft7121 Yes, actually you're right. I didn't complete my thought it looks like. Absolutely there was a need for temples, and also a temple in end times. @@777johbro yes, but do you truly understand what a prophet is? I'm not trying to be patronizing. We are all meant to be prophets, that is what God hoped for us. Understanding what the precepts of men are verses what a prophet is and teaches are crucial.
Absolutely incredible. I thought I had a general idea on these connections of symbologies. This just really brought it together in such an amazing way with the endowment. Thanks!!!

You're seeing the same thing because they are both allegories for the same thing. It's something everyone can achieve and if it has NOTHING to do with its literal interpretation. They're communicating divine truth through symbols and art.. this is the great mystery tradition which used symbols and allegories in the form of myth and scripture. Jesus and the redeemed Pharaoh are describing the same thing.. there's only one way to the divine, always was and always will be and that's by going inside yourself.. you're looking at the outward symbols and giving little to no attention to the symbolic meaning.. on every Egyptian temple is the admonition "man, know thyself" and it was the job of the priest to explain to the initiate what stories truly mean. In the stories YOU are Osiris YOU are Jesus, YOU are Odin, mithras, attis, dionysius, persephone, Innana or the Aztec hero twins. In every culture throughout time you'll find the mysteries if only you have eyes to see and ears to hear
Christianity is based on the Egyptian religion. Nearly identical in so many aspects. 12 disciples, 12 sons, resurrection, Sun of God, light of the world.
@@jaredshipp9207 Sadly for you I have it right. All religions for the most part are based on the Sun's path around the sun. Yo, I heard about this from a conversation I had with Bruce Porter years ago. Been trying to find it forever. It would completely destroy the argument of Joseph Smith incorrectly filling in the missing parts of the papyrus and prove him a true prophet, anyone know where to find a picture?
I'm confused how this destroys the argument actually, is there a layer of apologetics I missed? The argument is joe says F1 is Abraham being sacrificed, and that's still not what this is?
Just as the present flows and changes daily so did the past . We've been trained to look at history as snapshots that are frozen in time. But they were never frozen at any one point. Things change daily, weekly, monthly and so on and on.
Abraham put Himself on the Lion couch under persecution of the Egyptian false priesthood order of unknown and false gods. He put Himself there to replace Osiris with the true priesthood of Jesus Christ down through Abraham .
It seems in the middle panel on the left side, 35:26min. that the people at the head and the foot of the lion couch are female figures, rather than male. Would this have any connection to the Second Anointing ordinance(s)?
Why is Egypt used by the Lord as a place of refuge? Joseph was sent there to set it up as a place of refuge for his father and 11 brothers. Jesus was taken there as a infant child to protect him from Herod.
I second this request! Have bought some books from brother Porter, but don’t believe he has anything on these new findings (at least new for us non archaeologists).
Are you referring to the book of Abraham as a whole? If so the series let’s talk about the book of Abraham by Dr Kerry mulstein who is a Egyptologist is a good intro and then if you want a more meat and potatoes the BYU studies “A Guide to the Book of Abraham” which is a collaboration of multiple experts in Egyptology which you can buy in book form or read in pdf form for free is a must read

The temple does not matter. The entire earth is God's temple. If you remember Jesus never gave a sermon inside a building. Always outdoors, Jesus went to the people. He did not wait or expect them to come to Him. That is one problem with current Christianity, or what current Christianity gets wrong. Largely thanks to the traditions of the Catholic Church. Which has gotten much wrong in its attempt to keep power of the church consolidated.
So the question in my mind is, Who is alive today who will be sacrificed and then will this person, he or she, mind you, be raised from the dead? Just asking....
@@redfightblue the video explains it. The Book of Mormon clearly states in Jacob that ALL the holy prophets of the Bible testified of Christ. That goes all the way back to Adam. Jesus Christ's sacrifice was planned before Greeks even existed in the flesh (Christ is their word for annointed). Before the Earth was even created. There were even plans to have a Christ in this universe before any spirit bodies were born. Which is why Jehovah was the first to receive a spirit body.
@@noskalborg723 In your first comment you used the word "Christianity" and in your second comment you said "testify of Christ". These are not the same. In the temple film, Adam does not worship Christ. It's very different in fact. Adam stands next to Christ as they worship another God they call Elohim. This is not Christianity. Not even close. You are under the impression Adam worshipped Christ when in reality he worshipped Elohim. Who should I worship? Bruce R. McConkie once said "do NOT worship the son". Do you agree or disagree with McConkie? Remember, the Bible says that even the devils believe in Christ. Belief is not enough. Even if you say you worship Christ, that is still not enough. You must also reject ALL other gods to be in line with Traditional Christianity. If you worship a god named Elohim, and you're not speaking of Christ, this is far outside the doctrine of Traditional Christianity.
@@redfightblue cute attempt. But the Book of Mormon says that we preach of Christ and rejoice in Christ. And the New Testament and Pearl of Great Price also make clear that Christ defers glory to The Father Elohim and The Father gives glory to The Son. So to worship one is to worship the other in our estimation, but we DO worship Christ in grattitide for his atoning sacrifice. We DO pray to the Father, but it is in the name of Jesus Christ, thereby it is an act of worship unto both. And for a Trinitarian, they believe that Christ and the Father are one. So for them to claim that our worship of the Father is somehow NOT a worship of the son is either showing that they don't actually believe the trinity, OR it shows that they think that someone who prays without believing their prayer goes to the trinity, is somehow praying to and hearing from a devil, which gives too much credit and power to evil. Regarding the temple drama. You miss the fact that after Adam made animal sacrifice, as ge was commanded to, he was taught about the reason for it, he was taught about Christ. NO-ONE cometh unto the Father unless they come by the Son. Adam did go unto the Father. Additionally, even in preexistence, after the council in heaven Jehovah was foreordained to go down and atone and was as such was relied upon and reverred for this even before his birth as Jesus. Lastly regarding Bruce R. McConkie. I only have your word that Elder McConkie said such a thing. AND you have not only failed to cite a source/instance, but also failed to clarify the capacity in which he said such a thing: was it in apostolic duties? In a prrsonal capacity? At some time prior to his apostolic calling. I will not fall for such smoke and mirrors. I glory in my Jesus who hath saved me from an awful hell inasmuch as i turn to him and repent (and also beyond what my works deserve, for in all things we rely on Christ's grace, even in the executon of our our works, which works do NOT save us; they help transform us. Without the grace of Christ, our works would be nothing but their inherent moral value and their mortal consequences. But without the grace if Christ God's will would be unsanctified and Elohim wpuld cease to be God and therefore not be a god.)

Joseph Smith keeps proving people wrong after 200 years. The Book of Mormon is true and this church was indeed restored to prepare Earth for the second coming of Christ.
Ya, it's true, just nobody noticed in Genesis 10, 32 that part of the family of Noah were devided "in the earth" and the book of Mormon also talks of "in the earth" ! Remember the phrase " (a choice land above all others) ! all fell for the cunning plan ! We dwell not in earth but above in the choice land ! Some call it Heaven ! Above the firmament, not below ! Keep reading!
Probably, because from Ham came Egypt (Mizraim), one of the most ancient civilizations that we know a lot about, and Canaan from which Israel would later try to cleanse (in time). Who did the other brothers birth (in regards to nations)?
I think Bruce is fascinated with the Egyptian religion and lore but it is an over reach when he tries to tie it back to Mormonism and the temple endowment. Don’t get me wrong I love hearing about all of this Egyptian religious doctrine and their ordinances but I really don’t see the connection to our mono theistic Christianity.
@@marshajay3898 I mean this could be said about anything really. Sure there are ties with Mormon theology back to the early Hebrew laws and even before that but when you really get down to it were are all tied together, we are all humans and our histories are deeply intertwined. Does this make Greek and Egyptian mythology part of the Mormon theology, I highly doubt it. What does the Q15 have to say on this matter, that is the better question that should be asked. You don't see Dallin H. Oaks giving in-depth discourses on Osiris or any other Egyptian gods or deities. Look, the fascination and connection to Egyptian lore is cool, I get it. And JS acquiring the papyrus and producing the BofA certainly makes us want to find further reinforcement for that connection. However even the Church readily admits that the BofA was not a translation of the papyrus and this is well documented on the Church website here: www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/translation-and-historicity-of-the-book-of-abraham?lang=eng "None of the characters on the papyrus fragments mentioned Abraham’s name or any of the events recorded in the book of Abraham. Latter-day Saint and non-Latter-day Saint Egyptologists agree that the characters on the fragments do not match the translation given in the book of Abraham,"
@@marshajay3898 So even though I appreciate Bruce's and Greg's devotion to this subject, it is kind of non sequitur given what we now know about the papyrus discovered in 1967 and further research and statements put out by the Church. All I can say is follow what the Church leadership says on the matter and don't be attracted and lead away by strange theories and conspiracies. We must all hold true to the iron rod in the latter days, there will be many who will attempt to beguile and deceive, even if well meaning.
Isaiah said there would be an Alter to God in the midst of Egypt. So i'm curious....are we supposed to build it? Or who is supposed to build it in the future?
Ancient Egyptians recorded with great detail in their records of whom came into Egypt, Jesus ain't in them , Moses ain't in them , Joseph ain't in them , Abraham ain't in them , the parting of the red sea ain't in them , the lies Christianity tells of Ancient Egypt is the work of the unrighteous , you Christians deceive people with a fake account of history you call the bible
But isn't that facsimile from the Book of the Dead? I thought Joseph Smith bought papyri from a mummification exhibition? So we would expect to find those images in Egyptian tombs because, well, that's where they're from.
The anti mormon critisim for years has been that no examples exist of the Lion Couch scene the way Joseph Smith depicts it in Facimilie 1 The inportance is that this IS an example
IMO: Joseph Smith had the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham from the beginning. They are Ethiopian. The Book of Mormon describes the religion of Ethiopian Jews and the Book of Abraham is their version of Abraham. Everything was discovered in Africa, probably by explorers like James Bruce. He copied hundreds of manuscripts and brought them back to Europe. After publishing the Book of Mormon, Joseph Smith used the discovery and purchase of the papyri to publish the Book of Abraham. He claimed it was an interpretation of the papyri but it was interpreted into English prior and has no connection to the Papyri. The purchase of the papyri was just the opportunity he needed to publish the Book of Abraham. Joseph Smith attempted to use the discovery of the "Kinderhook Plates" to publish more. This was another Ethiopian manuscript in Joseph Smiths possession that we sadly never got to read. It is said to be written by a descendant of Ham and a Pharaoh of Egypt. The "Sealed Portion" and D&C 7 likely came from this same source. All from an Ethiopian "library" or "temple" discovered during these explorations of Africa in the 1700's. James Bruce published the Book of Enoch but may have died before the rest of his manuscripts were translated and published. They fell into the hands of Freemasons and Academics that ended up using them as an origin story for the Native American Indian instead of publishing them in their true form as a history of "Lost Tribes" in Africa. We now believe The Book of Mormon is about a "Lost Tribe" in America which is far less likely. Everything in the Book of Mormon describes Ethiopia. Most people have no idea what I'm talking about because they haven't ever heard or researched this before.
Sorry I stopped at 5:30 You can't compare this at all with the scriptures, you say osirus a god ,the son was not a god ,he was human The holy father"God"spirith was In the Son ,not the same thing you got to be careful not to be caught up in false doctrine. Now in those days like every tribe or people believed in the afterlife because it was said before with Adam it was passed on And written ,nothing new here.
I think it poetic, in a way, to have your names in ovals (Greg Matsen) and (Bruce Porter) in this video so similar to the name glyphs used in Egyptian texts - including the one of (Abraham) in the Janet Johnson scroll. It really couldn’t be clearer.
the stories are Sumerian stories , the Sumerians BECAME the Egyptians , whoop de do , they brought their stories with them , the stories where STORIES ALREADY TO THE Sumerians , the stories themselves are older then 11.000 and have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO with people from 2000 years ago , how can it ?
Given they are common funeral scrolls I’m sure they are in other places. Ask the Egyptian scholars to translate and see what they say. It won’t match the book of Abraham.
Even though Joseph Smith used the word "translated," taking him at his word doesn't work in our favor. Therefore, we need to redefine it to mean something that *does* fit the narrative we want. See? Simple.
@@MichaelSmith-fq3pgyour comment reminds me of people who claim there’s no evidence for something. Then no matter how much evidence they are presented it’s guaranteed they will discount it.
Joseph Smith wasn’t just a prophet he was also a seer and a revelator. His mission was to restore Christ’s true church upon the earth. A seer can see the past as well as the future therefore Joseph Smith didn’t just do a literal translation of the book of Abraham and facsimile’s, he restored them to their original meaning before they were corrupted by the Egyptians. More and more evidence is coming forth to show that Joseph Smith truly was a seer and interpreted these texts correctly based on their original meanings. Thank you both for your insights into this. The tour sounds fascinating.
The True Endowment is referred to in Galatians 3:26-29. Read it in Greek. Plain and simple. Mormon "endowment" is a $3 bill counterfeit and is cursed. (Gal 1:6-8)
This is a real stretch you are in fact making stuff up. Cause this has nothing nothing to do with Christianity. You are trying to put yourself in a history where you where never never there. You guys don't know what you are talking about.
Question: How can you possibly take faith seriously? How can anyone in their right mind ask others to believe in the existence of a Deity who makes Mormons so Christians will know how Jews feel, having had their literature hijacked. Nothing fails like prayers in a children's hospital & indoctrinating children is criminal. The faith vocabulary causes the user to be avoided like the old woman with too many cats. Faith "comes not with peace, but sword." Faith comes with wolves dressed as sheep & preaching to the choir. Faith trades the last cow for a pocketful of magic beans & then expects everyone's appreciation. Jesus said, it is a wicked generations which seeks signs such as resurrection. Faith is as worthless as fantasyland magic, since you can't tell mountains to move. The only sign in reality is Jonah: A believer murdered by other believers because he is outnumbered. The context is Jesus seeing a gathering crowd.

@@CwicShow Thank you for responding. I recognize that my "grammar" issue is not very important compared to the work you (and others) are doing, but it still is an irritation to my ear. 😁
Who's "we?" If you're LDS, you should already see the incorrect ideas sectarian Christians have about the temple, the veil being rent at Christ's death, etc.
Too simplistic and wrong either by misunderstanding or on purpose. The veil was torn…not torn down. At the ancient temple who got to go through the veil? Who gets to go through the veil now? You are insinuating that the church prevents people from entering the holy of holies when compared to the temple whose veil was torn, we are incredibly open.
I would really encourage closely looking at Elder Kearon’s talk “God’s Intent is to Bring You Home” from last conference. He very succinctly explains the rending of the veil of the temple at Jesus’ death and its significance.
@@cubic-h6041 the torn veil represented a new relationship with God. you know longer needed an earthly priest to access God. huge significance in my mind and i find it odd our church has a non torn veil that we need special permission from an earthly priest to arrive at and pass through. the Lord employeth no servants at the gate.

The temple is a way Jesus brings us to the Father directly. It has been around since the beginning of time as the Garden of Eden was a symbol of a temple.
@@joeshawcroft7121 Yes, actually you're right. I didn't complete my thought it looks like. Absolutely there was a need for temples, and also a temple in end times. Abraham put Himself on the Lion couch under persecution of the Egyptian false priesthood order of unknown and false gods. He put Himself there to replace Osiris with the true priesthood of Jesus Christ down through Abraham .

The temple does not matter. The entire earth is God's temple. If you remember Jesus never gave a sermon inside a building. Always outdoors, Jesus went to the people. I want to go to Egypt one day!
This is excellent. Thank you for your presentation.
You're very welcome!
I love how this really shows that Christianity was truly first.
How does it do that? Do you believe Christianity pre-dates ancient Egypt?
@@redfightblue first of all, you as an individual don’t get to defined who is Christian and who isn’t. That is simply your opinion.

However even the Church readily admits that the BofA was not a translation of the papyrus and this is well documented on the Church website here:
www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/manual/gospel-topics-essays/translation-and-historicity-of-the-book-of-abraham?lang=eng
"None of the characters on the papyrus fragments mentioned Abraham’s name or any of the events recorded in the book of Abraham.
IMO:
Joseph Smith had the Book of Mormon and the Book of Abraham from the beginning.

Given they are common funeral scrolls I’m sure they are in other places. Ask the Egyptian scholars to translate and see what they say. It won’t match the book of Abraham.
It's not about transition. Study syncretism, and you'll get some insight.

Who's "we?" If you're LDS, you should already see the incorrect ideas sectarian Christians have about the temple, the veil being rent at Christ's death, etc.
When Jesus died, the veil was torn from top to bottom. Is this what you mean?
And guess what, it's a burial scroll, not the Book of Abraham, so again JS was an outright liar and trying too redefine "translation" as inspiration is pathetic. Apologists and the church continue to move the goal posts every time you've been proven wrong. I wasted 50yrs believing in falsehoods.
