    Scholar Bruce H. Porter has a wealth of knowledge and first-hand experience. We discuss what he has experienced in the temples of Egypt, how our own temple experience is found there, plus some inside baseball on the mummies, the papyri, and the Book of Abraham.
    How did the ancient Egyptians get the temple rites? What is the Egyptian "Ritual Embrace?" Where exactly did the mummies and papyri used for the Book of Abraham come from?
    If you like gospel knowledge, watch this.

    Love this stuff! I wish I had heard of Bruce Porter before my wife and I visited Egypt. It was at the temple of Karnak that I first noticed that Egyptian religion and especially their temples were heavily influenced by God's priesthood. We found an Egyptian woman who was in front of the temple asking tourists if they wanted a cheap guide explain some things in the temple for us. When she showed us the Holy of Holies, she talked about the symbols on the walls and what they meant. I was shocked at how familiar some of those things were to me. It makes me want to go back and see more of Egypt

    • @DaGolfViking

      Why are they found in Egypt? Weren't the Egyptians pagans and not Christians.
      I'm honestly wondering, not just trying to stir the pot.

    • @jessewilson7809
      @jessewilson7809 3 месяца назад

      @@DaGolfViking You can explain the similarities by use of a religious diffusionism theory. That the truth began somewhere (Adam and Eve) and was passed down in different ways to different peoples. Eventually these truths evolved and oral traditions became a bit messy. Some truths are lost, some truths are embellished or outright changed. but you still have a lot of the main ideas that stay preserved. A good example of this is the flood myth that is found in the belief systems of nearly every ancient civilization. The same one we find in the bible with Noah. So it is not surprising that the Egyptian religion and christian/jewish religion would have quite a bit of overlap given the proximity of their early development in the middle east.
      However, if you are LDS and have read the pearl of great price (specifically the book of Abraham), you can get quite specific on where exactly this knowledge came from and why.
      Abraham 1:25-27
      25 Now the first government of Egypt was established by Pharaoh, the eldest son of Egyptus, the daughter of Ham, and it was after the manner of the government of Ham, which was patriarchal.
      26 Pharaoh, being a righteous man, established his kingdom and judged his people wisely and justly all his days, seeking earnestly to imitate that order established by the fathers in the first generations, in the days of the first patriarchal reign, even in the reign of Adam, and also of Noah, his father, who blessed him with the blessings of the earth, and with the blessings of wisdom, but cursed him as pertaining to the Priesthood.
      27 Now, Pharaoh being of that lineage by which he could not have the right of Priesthood, notwithstanding the Pharaohs would fain claim it from Noah, through Ham, therefore my father was led away by their idolatry;
      I saw some of these things in Egyptian temples. I had an Egyptian woman who was also muslim and who knew nothing about me or my beliefs describe the meanings on the walls in the holy of holies. It was so interesting to hear her say things that I have only heard in regard to LDS temple worship. This was before I knew about any of the work done by Hugh Nibley or Bruce Porter.

    Christianity, the church of Jesus Christ, true religion, on earth started with Adam and Eve. Christianity is the oldest religion on earth. We latter day saints know that the gospel of Christ started in the Council of Heaven. One can also see the temple, practices, teachings, and worship can be seen once Adam and Eve left the garden in Adam ondi Ahman, and then Mesopotamia, and then Egypt. Been listening to Bruce for years, great stuff. Would love to take one of his tours. Thanks. Was wondering if you would ever have Bruce on.

    I'm 68 and have been a church member my entire life. I started having a fascination with Egypt back in the mid 1990's. I could never get enough and I found myself always looking for the connections between church doctrine and what had been discovered in Egypt. I always found it humorous for the expert Egyptologists in their documentaries to try and explain all the religious symbology found at these sites, especially the pyramids. If you look at it with the eye of church doctrine and temple worship its obvious what all of this was for. And what the Egyptians wanted to accomplish.

    A deep dive into the progression of Jacob into Israel is a personal study project. Strangely, perhaps not, is similarity between Leah and the goddess Hathor. Leah’s name related to wild cow (auroch) with Hathor linked to cows. Certain aspects of Hathor if you consider Leah I with that lens make sense to her role and why Laban arranges that marriage first.
    The cow as a clean animal. A ruminant, to ruminate.
    Hathor’s connection to the Pleiades stars. Etc.
    Much to chew the cud on.

    I just wish that these principles were brought to the General Conference. Whe LDS world waits for the General Conference to receive truth and inspiration. These isolated talks aren't known by the majority of the members even here in UT. I was born raised and converted to the LDS church in Brazil, and I know the members are waiting for a strong response from the brethren members of the twelve and líderes representatives for their respective areas in the world. It's too little to late what the leaders are doing to guide the members. That poor young woman got no relevant answer for her questions by this Elder Oaks talk. Unfortunately, I already lost a worth grandson who attended the temple every Friday for baptism for dead because to go to MTC, he would need to be vaccinated because he was expecting the LÍDERES to talk and emphasize about chastity and marriage between man and women. 😢

    That’s a fascinating perspective! “Not direct translations” and “not called translations”
    It really gives a sense of just how deep these waters are😮.
    Joseph didn’t give meanings for either himself or us, but for Abraham!
    What is there more in these scriptures for US!?!

    I have had some amazing revelation regarding Egyptian symbologies connection to divine truth so I love this.
    The ancient cultures (including Egyptian temples) also elude to the watchers, nephilim and giants which are mentioned multiple times in the scriptures and are clearly depicted by all indigenous tribes worldwide. Would you address this subject matter?

    It seems -- to know the covenant people of that time, you have to know all of their neighbors too.
    The context adds meaning.

    Josephus wrote that Noah lived with Ham in Egypt, this information about the Temple make sense to me since Noah would’ve known about it.

    We're going to Egypt in October!! So excited!! And I'm looking forward to the temple that the Lord commands to be built in the top of the mountains.
    Update unfortunately, due to the genocide in Gaza, our trip was canceled. We'll go another time, God-willing.

    2:35 Joseph Campbell's book "The Hero with a Thousand Faces". Luke Skywalker, Frodo Baggins, Harry Potter, Mormon, Moses and indeed Jesus all follow an established pattern of story telling since ancient times.
    9:15 A Matralineal Patriarchy: The Matriarch chooses the next Patriarch.
    12:08 Apostasy of the grandsons of Ham who perverted and used the temple rites to exercise compulsion over humankind. Inheritance: The temple blessings make sons of God out of ALL those who are worthy.
    15:44 Our Holy Temple makes everyone who is worthy a "First-born of God."
    26:40 Shabaka or Shabaqo stone
    is "the oldest written record of human thought" in the world, a temple drama * of the pre-earth council about the creation of the world and who would be chosen to be the God of this world.
    * it's written out as a play.
    40:42. The concept of:
    Atonement = ritual embrace = the garment
    50:08. Locating a will The Church has been interested in for 150 years !
    57:43. Historical length of the blessing.

    Really great stuff! This brought some things to light in the temple ordinances we perform, and that it is with the proper authority.
    One thing that came to my mind was the authority of the sons of Noah. The tower of Babel came from one of the sons lack of authority attempting to get to city of Enoch/heaven by another way.
    This my first time on Cwic. I almost didn't cllick on this channel because you look like Miami cartel😅. Threw me for a second there.

    It is fascinating the possible Masonic connection with Chanderler as well - I love all the Mosonic connections with the gospel restoration many people in & out of the Church do not understand it, If we believe the book of Abraham & the things therein written then we will also understand that That first Pharoah was blessed by his grandfather Noah with Wisdom & the Blessing of the Earth. Wow, what a blessing that was Yet he was cursed as to obtain the Priesthood Yet he fain claim to it. I love that the first Pharoah was a righteous man & sought to imitate the Priesthood. There is as the scriptures say a wise purpose in the things the Lord does -My thoughts are not Your Thoughts & my ways are not Your ways!
