Agreed on the cost for the activities we did! They offer different things. one allows more freedom in getting around, the other offers cooler stays if desired. But you do have the stress of driving in a class C or travel trailer. Just depends
renting places to stay will definitely be the biggest expense by far. it eliminates a lot of stress, headaches and other expenses... but then you trade off the level of freedom as Liz says.

I'm not RV'ing through Mexico but I am planning on being in the country for 6 months. my max budget is $2000 a month just for one person but at least half of that will be taken up renting Air BNB's. if I can keep my food under $500 a month between groceries and restaurants then I'm still ahead of the game. my only other consistent expense would be laundry and that may be available at some of the places I choose to stay. thanks again for all you effort in putting such a helpful video together and making it enjoyable and entertaining at the same time!

I remember getting off Falmouth, Jamaica cruise port and chuckling at fellow passengers who beelined to Quiznos Subs and headed back to the ship with twelve hours to go. You two have far more courage than I do when traveling down south. Appreciate the straightforward budget answers, the chapter progress bar is helpful.

We are not RV'ing but we are driving (Seattle to Argentina over about 7 years) and I LOVED your video - you shared some really valuable information and I will definitley recommend your channel to our friends who need more info of the "rv" side of a journey through Mexico. We stay a month or so at a time and rent a home in a local neighborhood or downtown or both! Looking forward to more

Wow! A class A? Unless you stay on highways and outside the cities and towns. It’s going to be very hard driving that through here. Even crossing Mexico City is hard an rig that size.

Thank you for referencing. Vet fees weren't applicable. Normal up to date shots are required but no one checks. There's no more pet registration approvals, so you can just bring your pets. Also water for drinking was included in groceries ☺️ data you're right totally forgot to add! Most will use their normal phone data but should have included it. - Liz

It is especially useful to me because of the standard way visas to the USA work for me as a UK Citizen I am likely to be in the USA for 3 months and then have to be out of the USA for 3 Months! So I'm thinking of spending 3 Months in the USA in the springtime first, buying an RV, sorting the RV out, then go to Canada for the 3 months of Summer, back in the USA for 3 months in The Fall, followed by 3 months in the Winter in Baja Mexico. From your information I now know Baja Mexico will be a wonderful experience! Only thing I still need to work out is how to spend my Birthday on 4th July in the USA lol.

It "appears" you didn't try to cheap your way through the country and just look at sights through your camper windows, nor eat ramen the whole way. It is encouraging to see that it is a pretty modest cost while still partaking in most of the activities in each particular region, as well as enjoying the local cuisine fairly regularly. Between the gas, campsites, and tolls it’s like $850 a month and you could just rent a super nice Airbnb for a month for that much. That’s not factoring in the cost of the RV (I’m guessing even a 2014 was 40 - 50k?), maintenance, licensing and depreciation costs. So it looks intriguing but I’m wondering if there’s much advantage to this over just doing monthly Airbnb and bringing a regular vehicle.
The per month cost didn’t seem too bad at all. I always say travel and/or adventure takes 2 things, time and money. At least the 39 cent per mile cost for travel is less than you are allowed to deduct for mileage on your taxes. Of course this assumes you treat your RV and associated things in the Eat, See, RV community as a business.
Lots of great info. I can't believe you don't want advice on how you should have spent your money ;) We have been RVing down in Baja for the past four seasons and it is definitely more expensive than mainland Mexico as a lot of things are imported. Diesel this past spring for example was sometimes over $4.15 a gallon.

Fruits veg best buy them in local fruterias. Eg 5 kg grapefruit 30 pesos, 1.5 dollars, in Cancun. But generally things and food costs 2-3 times more than Spain, at least in Cancun. Even second hand clothes and shoes cost 2-3 more. Like in Domican Republic. As a vegan eating street food is challenging as salads are washed with tap water, and meat is in everything. People are generally happy and kind. Hardly any drugs or alcohol addicts about. Very safe, unlike the USA, and I live in a poor area!!! Just do not look like a tourist, and learn Spanish!! A must!!! I am fluent in 5 languages just by living in 14 different countries. I have never camed in an Rv park. always free rv. Usually in isolated rural areas or beaches Internet mobile coverage is very poor or inexistat in non urban areas and expensive. 5 dollars for 1.3 GB for 2 weeks with Telcel but unlimited calls.

I wonder about adding in the cost of the RV to the total trip cost? Or at least the depreciation ? A 12k depreciation over the year would add 1k a month to your trip and that seems reasonable.
If you want. We don't factor in depreciation like that as it's not a hard cost we spend. Also our RV has appreciated because of demand and improvements .
I have never heard any vlogger say laundry in Mexico wasn't a great deal. It's not! They just like someone else doing their dirty work. $15 for a load or two of laundry is more than at home. Sometimes there are delays, and you must wait a day or two. I have had to help a woman ask about her missing sweater, and it suprisingly showed up a couple days later. I do mostly handwashing here.
Compared to the cost of laundromats in the US, its great. We spend $25 to $30 a month washing our own clothes and have to wait at the laundromat to move it from the washer to dryer then fold. Not only is it more expensive, but it takes several hours of our time. If you have your own washer dryer of course paying someone else to do it isn't necessarily cost effective but for living in an RV it was definitely nicer than going to a laundromat.

Very well done video. You've reignited my urge to visit Mexico. I was thinking about a trip like this but am hung up on RV set up. Did you have any problems finding low Sulphur diesel for your motorhome? What set up would you recommend if a person wanted to have a large selection of campsites and to explore off the beaten path; a full size 4x4 truck pulling a 20 ft travel trailer or a motorhome of similar size to yours pulling a small 4x4? I understand that a smaller vehicle may be better as many of the streets in the small towns are very narrow? Thanks in advance.

I don't know of any caravan groups personally. Id get a group of friends together in your community to do it with or join Facebook groups to see if other families are doing it too
I'm curious about the theft and collision you had from your home provider. Can you clarify this or suggest which company you used? We leave for Mexico in our RV and should cross the border Oct 1st but cannot find a provider that covers us in mexico.
Who is your current vehicle insurance provider? Most have a policy that you can add plus you'll need special insurance from a Mexican vehicle liability provider. We have a full guide for RVing Mexico that covers this in more detail.

Our Canadian provider won't cover us at all in Mexico and unfortunately in the province we're in, we have only 1 insurance option. This was their first experience so were no doubt a little intimidated and unaware of "the form" that many people carry. When confronted with a clipboard, a pen, and a polite request in any language to fill it out with all the info pertinent to the "infraction" and a polite request to pose for a photo which includes his plate no., the officer will very likely wave you on with a stern but polite nod. "The form" is in both English and Spanish. We got ours at Totenaca RV park in San Carlos, Sonora. They speak perfect English and are very helpful. In the case of an unjustified stop, a blank look , no Spanish, and "the form" will likely be a lot cheaper and less frustrating. Just see it as an interesting experience...if you don't pay the bribe. Intimidation and corruption are not unique to Mexico. I love the video series and your great attitudes. Hope to see you in Mexico on your next trip.
We didn't include our RV because everyone's cost for an RV is different. People may have a payment or may own it free and clear so there's no point in including it.
A motorhome is a long-term investment, they continue to own the vehicle. you would have to prorate its cost over the entire useful life, not just eleven months.
1 bribe maybe but how about the unofficial road tolls run by locals? I realize its not a significant amount in the big picture here but I thought you would have at least mentioned that when you spoke about tolls.
@@RedroomStudios Unofficial tolls are what you want to pay, are actually a lot cheaper than regular tolls. And it was a thing because fo COVID, in non pandemic times it’s very rare finding that.

I wonder about adding in the cost of the RV to the total trip cost? Or at least the depreciation ? A 12k depreciation over the year would add 1k a month to your trip and that seems reasonable.
If you want. We don't factor in depreciation like that as it's not a hard cost we spend. Also our RV has appreciated because of demand and improvements .
I have never heard any vlogger say laundry in Mexico wasn't a great deal. It's not! They just like someone else doing their dirty work. $15 for a load or two of laundry is more than at home. Sometimes there are delays, and you must wait a day or two. I have had to help a woman ask about her missing sweater, and it suprisingly showed up a couple days later. I do mostly handwashing here.
Compared to the cost of laundromats in the US, its great. We spend $25 to $30 a month washing our own clothes and have to wait at the laundromat to move it from the washer to dryer then fold. Not only is it more expensive, but it takes several hours of our time. If you have your own washer dryer of course paying someone else to do it isn't necessarily cost effective but for living in an RV it was definitely nicer than going to a laundromat.

Very well done video. You've reignited my urge to visit Mexico. I was thinking about a trip like this but am hung up on RV set up. Did you have any problems finding low Sulphur diesel for your motorhome? What set up would you recommend if a person wanted to have a large selection of campsites and to explore off the beaten path; a full size 4x4 truck pulling a 20 ft travel trailer or a motorhome of similar size to yours pulling a small 4x4? I understand that a smaller vehicle may be better as many of the streets in the small towns are very narrow? Thanks in advance.

My family of 6 really want to do this but are hoping to be part of a group or caravan of other family rvers so that our kids have other kids to get to know while we travel. Do you know of any resources to help find things like that?
I don't know of any caravan groups personally. Id get a group of friends together in your community to do it with or join Facebook groups to see if other families are doing it too
I'm curious about the theft and collision you had from your home provider. Can you clarify this or suggest which company you used? We leave for Mexico in our RV and should cross the border Oct 1st but cannot find a provider that covers us in mexico.
Who is your current vehicle insurance provider? Most have a policy that you can add plus you'll need special insurance from a Mexican vehicle liability provider. We have a full guide for RVing Mexico that covers this in more detail.
@@EatSeeRV we're actually Canadian but we're trying to look into other options. Our Canadian provider won't cover us at all in Mexico and unfortunately in the province we're in, we have only 1 insurance option.

Housing is the BIG expense and you had that covered with the camper. So, how much do you think that cost you in depreciation?
We don't worry about that. Depreciation happens no matter where you are and is a part of owning an RV. We don't own this for appreciation haha

This was their first experience so were no doubt a little intimidated and unaware of "the form" that many people carry. When confronted with a clipboard, a pen, and a polite request in any language to fill it out with all the info pertinent to the "infraction" and a polite request to pose for a photo which includes his plate no., the officer will very likely wave you on with a stern but polite nod. "The form" is in both English and Spanish. We got ours at Totenaca RV park in San Carlos, Sonora. They speak perfect English and are very helpful. In the case of an unjustified stop, a blank look , no Spanish, and "the form" will likely be a lot cheaper and less frustrating. Just see it as an interesting experience...if you don't pay the bribe. Intimidation and corruption are not unique to Mexico.

2000 isn't whole story. you're ignoring one giant cost. the RV itself.
We didn't include our RV because everyone's cost for an RV is different. People may have a payment or may own it free and clear so there's no point in including it.
A motorhome is a long-term investment, they continue to own the vehicle. you would have to prorate its cost over the entire useful life, not just eleven months.
How much for bribes?
We paid 1 bribe our whole trip. $75 USD. It shouldn't be factored into your trip.
1 bribe maybe but how about the unofficial road tolls run by locals? I realize its not a significant amount in the big picture here but I thought you would have at least mentioned that when you spoke about tolls.
@@RedroomStudios Unofficial tolls are what you want to pay, are actually a lot cheaper than regular tolls. And it was a thing because fo COVID, in non pandemic times it’s very rare finding that.
