    Also, the 'on ramp' , is also known as the acceleration ramp. That means you accelerate with everything you got and look for a moment to merge. No matter what you do you're going to inconvenience somebody, so you might as well inconvenience them at the highest speed you can muster.

    • @ironsmithindustries3761
      @ironsmithindustries3761 Год назад +21

      Agreed. So many people go 25mph on the on ramp then slowly accelerate up to 70. I almost get run over every time

    • @camf7522
      @camf7522 Год назад +5

      Nope! It is the merging traffic that needs to yield to traffic already on the highway. But yes one should try to join the traffic at the speed of the highway traffic.

    • @pelon7109
      @pelon7109 Год назад +10

      No it's called a merging ramp and not with everything you got because some people will take you seriously and go 100mph on the ramp it should be at the same speed as traffic is moving

    • @camf7522
      @camf7522 Год назад +3

      @@pelon7109 agree, the idea of the merge ramp is for the merging traffic to find a gap, match the speed of the traffic and merge in causing the traffic as litter interruption as possible. Accelerating and forcing your way on to the highway, especially using a truck to intimidate, is dangerous and rude. I am not sure where some intimidating truckies/truckers expect a light vehicle doing 100km/h plus to disappear to, but they do.

    Trucker here, When merging you just give it all you got to get up to highway speed, they *will* make room for you. you should never be merging onto a highway with your 4 ways on going so slow, unless your rig is struggling with the load and your doing the best you can. Love your videos man.

    • @simplepig3825
      @simplepig3825 Год назад +4

      If your on Pennsylvania i81 and entering it at exit 219 you'll definitely need to use your four ways. I've had trailers with less than 5000 lbs and the best I could do was 25 mph before the entrance ramp ends.

    • @baltothewolf
      @baltothewolf Год назад +4

      That's not merging that is forcing, merging is moving in with traffic or when it's clear not shoving them out of the way. His lane ended right away I hate when they do that(highways), but if cars aren't letting him in he can only stop and wait for the clear, or get shoved into the shoulder...

    Hopefully this is some hopeful advice, unless there is a curve or something that forces you to slow down or traffic is stopped at the bottom, anything really of that nature, just be on the pedal. It's so much easier to merge at highway speeds. People will slow down or move over most of the time. If not most on ramps are long enough to give you time.

    Super new to your channel! Very impressed! Clearly, your tractor has an automatic transmission. Is that the norm now?

    Alex thanks for letting me know how difficult it is to get on the highway with a big truck. I live near Port Newark and port Elizabeth and there’s lots of tractor trailer trucks on the road here about.
    I try to leave space for the trucks but I’m still trying to perfect my driving. Whenever possible I will brake for a truck changing lanes or a truck merging even though I could drive past either on the left or right side.
    If they have a turn signal on and the car behind me isn’t too close I will signal the driver by flashing my headlights. I’m just not sure how it’s going to effect the driver of the big rig. Some slow down others switch lane’s and some flash the trailer lights in approval. I’m learning about etiquette for driving around big trucks do you have any guidance to share with us looney four wheelers?😊

    Weigh stations in some states are open 24 hours...and if some guys are prepassing the weigh stations it's because they more than likely have PREPASS...Stay safe driver!

    yeah mate, use the ramp to get up to speed when merging, if you screw around on the ramp you're more likely to cause an incident.

    So the ramp you encountered are quite common out on the Pennsylvania Interstate, you are supposed to be accelerating to the point where you are going the speed of traffic or slightly very slightly slower than the speed of traffic you should be able to find an opening

    1hr to load a trailer is a long time still. A proper dock will have the load staged and ready to go before you even get there. If it’s just normal pallets should only take 25mins bagged and released.
