Friday Night Funkin' is a Newgrounds rhythm game made in HaxeFlixel originally created for Ludum Dare 47. Programmed by ninjamuffin99 with a soundtrack produced by Kawai Sprite and artwork created by PhantomArcade and evilsk8r, the game can be played on Newgrounds or played/downloaded for free on Itch.io.
The plot of the game centers around Boyfriend trying to hook up with Girlfriend, but her ex-rockstar father Daddy Dearest doesn't approve of him. It's up to Boyfriend to rap battle his way through him and anyone else that stands in his way so that he can finally get freaky! Think you got what it takes?
Friday Night Funkin' is an ongoing project that will continue to receive updates, bug fixes and new content. Faker is a singularity that exists in Lord X's timeline only, who was created back when he was 2011, before he did any moves
Sonic Legacy is its own canon entirely
2017 will get a proper story done at some point, the variant seen in Sonic Legacy is only really a placeholder that is canon for the time being

I see, think I just confused some things. I thought the timeline between faker and lord X was separate due to the guardians not knowing who EXE is. Joedoughboi did a Q&A with the guardians where one of the guardians was asked something about EXE: in which they responded they didn’t know who that was
So for some reason I assumed it was an alternate timeline, but it is entirely possible that faker was simply put away or trapped elsewhere. I also think I should’ve stated specifically that Faker exists solely in Lord X’s timeline
Just got confused since 2017X is canon in the mod, and that’s where the bulk of the lore is from so far but sonic legacy is its own canon
And, yeah I will admit putting FNF Xenophanes while talking about canon Xenophanes was disrespectful. Just thought more people would be familiar with that design, but seeing it now doesn’t make sense.

One of the biggest gripes I have with the .exe canon is Lord X and 2011X not being classified as one and the same in both ways, as said by Joe: "Lord X is always 2011X, but 2011X is not always Lord X" which is what i think is the main reason official Sonic.exe is so confusing. It's clear that Joe also wants AU's like Mortis and '17X to be official, but doesn't quite understand that you don't need to give 2011X no clear story after Sonic2011 for that to work. I think an easier way of defining the canon and AU's as official would be: "2011X in the Sonic.exe canon will always become Lord X, however in some cases, he will go down a different road."

@Duncachi by the way I red both exes and lord xs wiki pages. They said nothing about exe being made instead of the guardians he was made before the guardians. Not only that but the guardians ruled in favor of 2011x so he casted exe into a different reality. Even crazier lord x knows about everyone else and hates them.

Gonna clear somethings up.
There are three SEPARATE canons, being 2011x, 2017x , and Xenophanes
2011x and 2017x are full on rewrites of the ones done by JC, as a way to seperate and make much less weird incarnations of the two character. 2017x is an X incarnation but is not anyway related to 2011x as they are their own characters. Xeno is a much more later incarnation, having less affiliation with the JC version and is more of the current owners own take of what Sonic.exe is.
Now for Lord X and Mortis, they are two alternative futures of X. They are not essentially the same because they are moreso of possibilities of what X can become in the future if he continues to do his sick games.
EXE/Faker is not made by Lord X, more or less just been adopted by him as he's actually created by 2011x.
X from Sonic Legacy is just X just wanting branch off a bit.
But i wonder who wins in a fight, jc version of 2017x or joedough version of 2017x.
Wasn't it literally confirmed that EXE was made by Lord X, since they both made from the void. This is the problem with 2011x's existence because now it has to change everything.

Then again, Raven has stated that a lot of the lore has been recently considered outdated, so there are still changes to come

i don't know if it's just me, but this seems WAY too confusing for now. until all of these guys (excluding 2011x, and i honestly had no idea who Lord Mortis was up until this) gets their _own_ playable game in some form, i'll finally start taking some of these bits of lore at face value. i like 2017x, but i don't really have any other reason to like him other than his design, sure, he has his... basic character info that explains as to why he is the way he is, not that it's a bad thing oh- no, it's just that i need to see these characters in action to really understand what's it about them that really captivates me!
I miss when Sonic.exe was just a creepypasta character and not just a "FNF" character as I have found out many people see them as nowadays (mostly by younger kids)

The only exes that i consider canon are 2011X, Lord X, 2017X, and 2011X (fnf). I only consider them canon if they have their own playable game and aren't from fnf (with the exception of 2011X(fnf))
The version of 2017 X/“Sonic” we see now _is_ technically exclusive to the FNF mod. It’s a temporary replacement of JC’s reboot and they’ll get a proper retake once his current owner is done with her other projects.

Probably a hot take in this community, but I feel like Exes shouldn’t be “limitless” (either be MORE vague about how their powers work so people are kept guessing or define some rules so that theyre understood and easier for others to interpret)
Even Lord X. Like, the Bandado Vs Lord X debate doesn’t really even have a satisfying answer if both are limitless, because numbers wouldn’t matter, cloning exists, if they were actually “limitless” they could summon however many limitless guardians they want, or undo their. What are they so powerful for when a human can’t do shit anyway? It shouldn’t have to be so xtreme. Why can’t they just be strong enough for their story and allowed to have vulnerabilities that lull you into a sense of being able to escape or defeat them?
Quick rundown of what i think supposedly happens, also, i think Duncachi tried to explain, most of these versions are classified as official, and most of them are part from a canon that branches from 2011x
2011x: The original, basically the jc one but improved and completely unlinked from him
Lord X: Supposedly, 2011 but grandpa, sometimes he is, sometimes he isn't
Frea- i mean 2017x: 2011 but gone insane thinking he is Sonic, as his name suggest, a remake of the dumpster of fire that is jc's 2017 remake
Lord Mortis: what if x was betrayed and trapped
EXE/Faker: Lord's stupid son
Xenophanes: The first one that isn't related to the others, a completely different story, and most importantly, he is NOT the same as Vs Sonic.exe (This one was named Luis to both avoid confusion and mock rightburst)
Vs Sonic.exe isn't either canon nor official
Sonic Legacy is official, but the canon is debatable
All father, OMT and EYX are not official

I’ve watched like, half the video and I wanna correct one thing: Lord X, EXE and the 7 guardians all share the same timeline. X creates EXE (somewhere after Sonic 2011 I think). EXE rebels and gets banished. X grows into Lord X. Sometime later creates them 7 guards.

I hope Exe gets officially acknowledged by Sega at some point, perhaps as an IDW entity that takes over Sonic in an alternate timeline and drags our main cast into his timeline like with what Scourge did in Archie. Even Tails Doll being a monstrous entity was officially recognized on multiple occasions, even in Lego Dimensions, so I can't see why Exe can't.
I love the idea of 2011X becoming Lord X because of aging which gives me a theory that his soul is immortal but the body is not like he can make his body somewhat immortal but there is limitations to it

2011X and 2017X are the same BUT 2017X is a possible timeline if he took his obsession with Sonic even further.
Lord X IS 2011X, just much older while Mortis is a possible future for him.
EXE/Faker was created by the canon Lord X before he made the guardians but at some point he rebelled against Lord X.
Xenophanes, both the canon and the fnf versions, are simply their own thing unrelated to any version of X with the fnf version being sorta of a composite version of the canon Xeno and 2011X while Sonic Legacy X is a slight branch off from 2011X.
I know some things on Xenophanes pronounced [Xen - of - a -knees] based on what Shei has said on Twitter, Deviantart and to people she spoken with. He like some other exes is not bound by the game he resides in. His world seems to be more based on Sonic Adventure 2. He arrived on Earth through a meteor in the early 2000's and has a human form. Rather than coming from the void he is from a planet called the world of X. He has lived over 1000 years and doesn't seem to be that fascinated in sonic like X is only taking his form from his popuarity at the time. He has a reluctant partnership with a girl named Alice and is really into rock n roll as well as heavy metal. He is also in fact soulless so their is a chance that him taking souls is just a way for him to feel some form of liberation. It was once stated by Shei that he had 7 siblings but I'm not sure if that is canon to him anymore as i can no longer find the post she said it in. He can crystalize any part of his body at will and the X on his chest is a scar that can't be hidden unless of course clothing is covering it. He also is not that tall like how Rightburst depicted him or that hot-headed his sonic form is only 3'9 and if any one of the 3 X's were to throw a tantrum Joe said it would likely be "Sonic" still love him though. But that's all I know some things can be changed but until his official story is out this is all I got.

Going to comment before I watch to compare what I am (vaguely) aware of to the vid’s info
IIRC Xenophanes is an entirely new take on Sonic.exe, and completely unconnected to the rest (despite being official)
Now the origin point / progenitor of most of these is X, an intradimensional being that takes on the appearance of sonic to get closer to their targets. He appears in a direct remake of Sonic.exe, where he’s named 2011X
From there is:
-The primary timeline of Lord X, in which X is left unchallenged, Tom gets the video game, dies to X, who builds up a hell of his own making.
+The character EXE is still in the works, he’s probably been rewritten since and this info is likely outdated, but IIRC they were just a spawn of Lord X. They feel mutual hate of one another
-An alternate timeline where X is shown up by another being named Bandado (whom takes over the Eggman vessel) and loses control of his world, as the latter believed that he was using such a world improperly. The video game doesn’t get to Tom until ~8 years later(?) where he meets & cooperates with the morally dubious Lord Mortis.
-The 2017X timeline where he becomes so infatuated/obsessed with the games where he outright believes that he is Sonic, in the world of Sonic, and is outright called “Sonic” - seeing anything that contradicts that as the problem. X if he was a superfan

That's just counting the number of times you said things like "Lord X," "X," or "2011 X," or "2017 X," and not things like "Xenophanes" or whatever.
When you mean every single time you've even said the letter x in this video in any word ever, you've said the letter x either 140 or 141 times, I lost count near the very end. If I missed a couple, well, too bad. I don't have the Sprites or sanity to do this again.

At this point, this take on Sonic.exe or 2011X in general is a straight up Pokémon. with each of these different branching paths of forms for 2011X to take. You might as well just label All of them just Sonic.Exe and call it a day.

There are three sonic.exe canons.
2011X, 2017X, and Xenophanes, who is on hiatus. They are all non-canon to eachother and are in completely different universes and stories.
Lord X is 2011x from the future in a sort of official hypothetical situation.
Lord Mortis is an au made by somebody else that is officially supported by Joe and is seen as a sort of official alternate universe.

P.S i do understand that the wiki states that 2017x is related to x; this is not true. The exe wiki is not official to these exes, but i can understand the confusion.

I don’t understand why people are confused though. The wiki isn’t cannon plan and simple it’s owned by fans (why else would they need to wait for Astra to finish making the Xenophanes lore or why lord X’s page doesn’t have the old image of lord X’s void form. And you can tell because under legacy’s page they say lord X can’t change back to his old forms but he can. Which is completely wrong because, 1. Lord X’s form in the old SonicPC port version where he splits in half the purple being inside looks similar to 2011’s” true form” that originates from the exe iceberg. 2. Lord X’s vessel goes through a life cycle each time it’s replaced and. 3. In both Sonic pc port and SonicPC, Lord X changes his colour gaining his red gloves.

In short words, when the sonic.exe drama happened back in i think 2021 or something, the original sonic.exe was split into three different exe's and one of them is the actual main exe, which is 2011X. 2017X and Xenophanes are also those other counterparts but 2011X is the main one, and he branches off into two timelines the Lord Mortis one, which is a past timeline, and the lord X one which is a future timeline, and you could also say 2011X created faker/EXE and I'd assume EXE only exists in Lord X's timeline though.

Most exe's are very different from each other Like fatal Error and Xenophane and there are some exe's who are good in Heart Like Sunky, Hog and Curse
Sonic.exe is the First exe that Existed or atleast thats what people think, there was one exe who was before sonic.exe and his Name is Azul (its shortend btw)
Lord X is suppose to be the older Version of Sonic.exe but got Changed to be a different one too since the creator diden't Like the Idea that His creations are similare, Xenophane is tho another exe who more powerful than Sonic exe and is suppose to Continue Exe's legacy (still different beings tho)
Majin Sonic is basicly somewhere between good and evil but He trys to stop Xeno and Xanthus from Their Plans of going further into other

Faker is the child of Lord X because X created him but He got betrayed by Lord X and now seeks Revenge and is filled with hatred, in Short Terms Faker is a broken Character
Azul is the actual First exe's that ever Existed, He is more of the spanish Type and i dont have more informations about him

I was gonna make my own video discussing this topic but here’s the simple answer
3 main cannons:
-2011X (reboot of the original X) both the character and the entire universe (both rebooted and the original) are owned by Joedoughboi
-“Sonic” but I just call him 2017X (reboot of the 2017 remake of sonic.exe) originally rebooted by Joedoughboi but gave ownership to raven/Revie who owns the entire character and 2017 continuity (new and old) Joedoughboi may have held Co-ownership at one point however what involvement he still has isn’t clear but I assume he helps work on the character but all decisions come down to Revie and their approval. The design of 2017 in sonic legacy is outdated and scraped which is why it appears in the mod despite Revie not wanting her exe’s in fnf (so don’t get your hopes up about seeing EXE/Faker)

-Lord X, who is owned by JoeDoughBoi. A lot of people think the “lord X is always 2011 is but 2011 isn’t always lord X” means lord X is an alternate universe branch off of 2011. In my opinion it more likely means lord X is always 2011 because he’s the future/older version of 2011 but 2011 isn’t always lord X because not all variants of 2011 become lord X (remember take the wiki as a grain of salt as it’s written by fans and not the creators and a lot of stuff gets outdated. Regardless Lord X and 2011 are still cannon for multiple reasons such as. Alan being tails in both sonic 2011 and sonicPC, 2011 calls the player new friend while lord X calls the player old friend, In sonic 2011 if you fall during GO BACK 2011 says no cheating which in some of the versions of then old Sonic PC port if you look down it says NO CHEATING, Lord X says welcome back in SonicPC and in sonic 2011 if you close the game at certain points and re open it a pop up appears with the text “Welcome back” will appear, in X’s lament which is cannon 2011 plays the piano and theirs artwork of Lord X playing the piano and Joedoughboi responded to a comment on X’s lament that was joking about Lord X and 2011 both playing the piano with Joedoughboi responding “old habits die hard.” And lastly 2011’s true form looks similar to one of the forms of lord X in the old sonic pc port.
-EXE/faker, created and Owned by Raven/Revie. Originally EXE’s cannon revolved around OG X but because JC the hyena decided to be JC the child predator along with his gf it’s likely this changed with OG X becoming 2011 and Joedoughboi himself confirmed Lord X is part of exe’s lore alongside Revie confirming it.
-Lord Mortis:, owned by GEAR-0-SHIFT. Basically it’s lord X but when he was younger he got his ass clapped by Bandado and turned into a dried corpse. Like with EXE lord Mortis’s lore revolved around OG X but since he was rebooted into 2011 it’s likely the lore for Lord Mortis has changed. Lord Mortis is a offical alternate universe of lord X and SonicPC confirmed by Joedoughboi.
-Bandado, owned by GEAR-0-SHIRT. Basically a being who invaded X’s world and clapped his ass and took over not much needs to be said.
Edit: 2017 isn’t 2011, rather a different entity that is born in a different time and goes on a different path then 2011, where you got that information I have no idea
2017 X’s description on the wiki is extremely misleading and makes it sound as if it’s implying that 2017 X is another future variant of 2011 X

There are times it implies 2017 is its own character and other times when it sounds like its trying to say 2017X is a variant of 2011. Regardless if he got this information from the wiki he would have had to scroll through most of the information and cherry pick one sentence. But if that is the case then it’s stupid because the wiki isn’t a reliable source of information as it’s written and edited by fans (literally their missing a old photo of lord X’s void form) there’s a reason i didn’t include much information from the wiki because alot of it is wrong and theirs evidence to prove connections without it. I’m certainly gonna have to make a video discussing this topic and correct stuff. No offence to the creator we all make mistakes.

It’s written by fans and not the owners of the characters and theirs multiple ways to tell (the biggest and most simple is how they claim the 7 guardians were with lord X when exe was banished yet in the guardian’s qna when exe was brought up they had no idea who EXE was completely debunking what was said in the wiki. Even in a now deleted post Raven said EXE never met the guardians so either they are written by fans who don’t have the correct knowledge or they cherry pick information. Not saying everything on the wiki is written by fans and not the owner but what is said on the wiki should be taken with a grain of salt and what the creators say or what’s hinted at in games and the characters offical story or media should be taken as more reliable, important and accurate then a wiki page.

Somethings you got mixed up, 2011 X creates EXE and becomes Lord X in the same timeline with EXE's creation predating that of the Guardians. You kinda implied 2017 X/Broken Face was a different timeline instead of a different canon which if I'm not mistaken isn't the case. Also, woulda been worth mentioning 2017 X is usually referred to as Sonic and Broken Face since I think Raven wants to move away from the 2017 X name. Bandado's timeline emerges where during the events of Sonic 2011 where Bandado disguises as Eggman/Paul and pulls the 'ol switcheroo on 2011 X and it's worth mentioning the vessel focused on in Sonic II Special is Tom who is the player of Sonic 2011. Also, fair warning don't trust everything on the Continued EXE Wiki. A majority of it isn't accurate regarding the official EXEs and their variants.

Call me weird, but I'm glad that Modern X isn't 2011 Creepypasta X. That story was legitimately awful, and it does nothing good for the character. The story needs a rewrite with no writing cliches, no boring and awfully stupid main lead, and Lord X as the main antagonist/ villain, and it needs to be written by someone who knows what they are doing and how to make a frightening story.

Correct if I’m wrong, but I think that EXE is created in every universe that has X (since the wiki says that X created EXE and by extension, Lord X created him).
Also, this is just speculation, I think the wiki made a mistake when saying Sally_ALT isn’t a canon universe, because despite Joe not continuing the story after Falsecow left the internet, her lore is pretty much finalized.

sonic.exe used to be owned by jc, and is now owned by shei. thus, jc and shei are the only true owners of sonic.exe (besides joe and raven being co-owners). 2011x and 2017x were both created by jc, and xenophanes was created by shei, thus they are the three official canons of sonic.exe. 2011x and 2017x are outdated, but are just kinda being continued anyway by the co-owners (probably just to separate them from jc, and to fill in for content while xenophanes is in development)
lord x just seems to be an interpretation on what a future 2011x COULD be like. pc port started as a fan-project so its probably not meant to be 100% canon, its just that joe gaining co-ownership of sonic.exe created confusion about pc port being canon to 2011x.
this is how i understand it at least. i have a feeling that the exe community for some reason likes to overcomplicate stuff (like the exe wiki separating 2011x from his appearances in sonic legacy and sonic.exe 2 for not much reason)

2011 - essentially the jc version without that fucks influence, more accurately crimsons version of x and he's just a void entity that likes sonic
Lord x - an alternate 2011x that created the guardians and EXE (he canonically exists in pc port, yet banished elsewhere, made from some of the void antimatter that makes x), growing more aware of everything and no longer truly believing he's God as he says the line to mock religion
Mortis - a 2011x that never makes guardians, with the og doing so too, with another being made from where x is from usurping him, and now he's mortis
'Sonic' (broken face/2017x) - the void antimatter creature simply was more obsessed with sonic before coming to a physical form
Xenophanes - a being completely unrelated to the rest, just an alien that landed somewhere, saw sonic was popular and took the form
The fnf versions - basically besides Xenophanes they're just the same ones mentioned but they simply become noncanon via being in fnf
Fnf xen - Louis, basically the one that truly is crimsons x but more aggressive and little less powerful for some reason with a form similar to canon xen
So basic timeline is they start either as xen immediately or from the void, xens line in it stops there, depending on how much the void antimatter creature is interested in sonic makes it either Louis, 2011x or "sonic", "sonic"'s line ends here too, same with Louis, now depending on whether x makes guardians or not changes if he's mortis or stays 2011x, with making EXE only happening if he has the guardians made which leads to lord x

Wait- Can 2017X become Lord X? Cuz 2017 is a canon but 2011X made the guardians but since it was never stated that 2017X lost any power or gained any power. Buuuuuut, if 2017X would become Lord X then Lord X would be different since 2017X think that he IS Sonic and since he think he is Sonic thus, The Lord X in that dimension (Possibly) could make the Guardians Vessels of the Og Sonic’s friends and Lord X would become more aware of himself and the timelines could be very odd. BUT ALSO, what if Bendado was in existence before 2017X made is transition to Lord X and starting to make the Vessel Guardians? This could be big.
From what I know, Bandado only exists in the timeline where X becomes Lord Mortis. 2017 X exists in a completely separate canon and does not branch off of the original X, thus he cannot become Lord X.
2017x is another universe unconnected to 2011x, Lord X, and Xenophanes. He is only relevant to himself.
