  • Miley Cyrus has sparked controversy for featuring plus-size model Angelina Duplisea in the music video for her single 'Mother's Daughter'. Critics have suggested that Angelina's appearance in the video is glorifying obesity. Angelina debates with Piers and former glamour model Chloe Goodman about whether or not the video sends an unhealthy message or if it's good for a different body type to be represented.

I comment on this as an obese person myself (almost 300 pounds). She did it to get paid and thought nothing more of it, but there will always be some delusional person who will interpret this as normal, and popular media who will shove it down people's throats for their own benefit.
In my own experience, people who become obese probably have an eating disorder or other issues that have caused them to overeat, stress eat, etc. Emotional and sometimes physical abuse in my life has led to severe stress eating and weight gain for me in recent years. It's basically a coping mechanism. I have cut some people out of my life and am now trying my best to lose weight gradually.
Obesity is a major health risk and limits you greatly. If you have an obese friend, relative, colleague or whomever, please reach out to them and encourage them to eat healthier, exercise or take longer walks more often, or better yet, participate in the same activities with them. Obese people should not be glorified or seen as normal, but neither should they be bullied or judged out of existence. Instead, just be kind to them as fellow human beings and try to help them within your means.

I was emotionally bullied about weight I understand the way it echos even years later. I'm 41 years now almost 42. For years I thougth that I couldn't lose weight I was at 300 lbs in Oct when I was eating 3 meals a day and 3 snacks! I began to give up hope of ever losing weight! I got the flu and lost 34 lbs it was my aha moment!
Since then I removed soda and chips and candy from my diet and slowly started to take other things out because they were bothering me health wise. Not saying you cant' have them but I have a few diseases that affect how I feel. So I also got off frozen fries, chicken strips, pizza, Chinese food, Chopseuy, Fetecinni alfredo and recently Bread. I cant' eat lunch meat either which is full of junk!
If you can control your salt intake it will go a long way to helping you it' snot just sugar and calories that matter. Salt or sodium causes water reteention which leads to swelling making you appear fatter until you cut it back. My body is dif I am now 51 lbs lighter than I was in November of last year! It is nto impossible do not give up. Slowly walk away from things that aren't healthy like Soda and chips and candy. Things like that are going ot hold people back.
I think you will reach the weight loss you are going for as long as you understand what is going into your body and how to mentally approach it. It is literally mind over matter at imes. Just be patient and determination will help you get to a healthier weight you can do this I believe it!

Now I try to work out here and there and be more active. I never cared about what people said. But in the back of my mind I was always disgusted with myself. Just because I knew I was unhealthy. I didn’t realize how out of shape I was until I learned that it’s not normal to feel like dying going up stairs. The greatest feeling ever was going up 4 flights of stairs and not dry heaving lol. We need to focus on why they are obese in the first place.

I also never stated anything about people "eating healthier" all of a sudden, or not focusing "on why they're obese in the first place".

    • @Zoki4444
      @Zoki4444 8 месяцев назад +6

@@DickWigglin and I find your assumption that fat shaming people will lead to better health consciousness is pretty disgusting. Let's say we put your plan into action. That would mean when someone is fat, we should for their benefit automatically shame them without knowing anything about them or how they became fat in the first place. You do understand the psychological damage that can cause someone, right? To the point of self-harm rather than improvement. But I guess it's just easier to point fingers and let the problem solve itself.
In fact, following your example of Japan, you do realize there is an entire sport there revolved around being fat called Sumo Wrestling, right? Must we shame these athletes too despite the hard work they put into their lives?
Forgive me for using Kantian logic here, but I find it nonsensical you thinking we can solve obesity by shaming it out of existence. If shaming people was such an easy and harmless way of improving people's health, other unhealthy states wouldn't be a thing either.
Let's start shaming anorexics or suicidal patients for being such unhealthy folks. Hell, why not shame some veterans for making the decision to defend their country and come back with severed limbs and severe PTSD.

    • @DickWigglin
      @DickWigglin 8 месяцев назад

      Stop being an idiot.
You're the only one making assumptions here, and baseless ones at that...
You also continue to act as if you're privy to what fat shaming means in this context, yet start spouting about "psychological damage", shaming "them", and other nonsense.
I never once suggested shaming anyone, you dolt, and even implied this when I said "there is no difference between your assertion that 'we need to stigmatize unhealthy food', and my assertion, that 'we need to stigmatize being fat', which is literally the outcome of eating 'unhealthy food'".
With regard to sumo wrestling, of course that logic would apply to them, as well. Why are you advocating for people to be unhealthy, simply because of the "hard work they put into their lives"? What does that even mean?
Also, yet again you're making baseless assumptions... I never once said "we can solve obesity" by doing anything, let alone, "shaming it out of existence".... I said..... "I agree that 'fat shaming is a healthy thing'", because it allows people to be "more conscious of their weight". Unlike you, I actually want people to live healthily, despite the "hard work" they put into living so unhealthily.
Stop bringing up completely different issues. We're talking about obese people, not anorexics or suicidal people, and we're certainly not talking about veterans. What compelled you to even bring up such irrelevant matters?

Something i deeply agreed is "a buf of shame is needed" not only on the fat or physical issues, but any behavior.
Not shaming the appearance, but the habit. Obesity is not body shape, it's habits, mental and emotional issues.
Shame is a natural feeling, it makes us change our behavior. But it's also about the dose.
Her and people like her brings us awareness. It's better than them hiding and pretending to bot exist. And this discussion is also needed.
Maybe she doesn't listen or many other people, but it can save lives, can change minds, can improve society in some aspects.
The things is not stop talking and to keep creating space for minimum respectful debates

As someone who was actually bullied and singled out by my own aunt who would say things at family parties infront of people like "If you eat that you will get fat!" every time! Even when I had just gotten there and was eating the first bite. That is what I lived with for years she also told me that I was fat and ugly unlovable and that no man would ever want me! So to me that is fat shaming.
The dif between telling someone they are unhealthy and that you are worried about them is dif than what my aunt did to me. So fat shaming is not the right word to use. I don't know how she thought she was gonna help me. She claimed years later she was trying to keep me from being like her in school!
She caused me to become an emotional eater it was the only outlet before her bullying tactics I was not as into food. I was 90 lbs at 12 years old not fat at all and with a good appetite. Not too much food! Then my hormons hit and so did thyroid issues. I gained a little weight and then she started in on me.
People need to understand that words have an affect on people even years later. I topped 300 lbs in October of last year. In December at the end of the month for a whole month I wa sick with the flu pretty much bedridden. I lost 34 lbs before I even knew it. God proved to me that I could lose weight. I kept taking out things that were bad like soda and candy and chips to start with. Added more and more to it.
I have lost a total of 51 lbs! I'm going for a total of 99 lbs now.! I know I can do this with God's help! I feel so much better folks there is such a dif between the me in Oct and me now! I have hope and I have control over my own body I am no longer a victim of emotional eating. Just take care how you tell someone you love that they need to lose weight. Especially a teenager.

I'm obese. On the BMI scale, I'm somewhere under 35. I'd really appreciate if someone cared enough to point out my worrying size or show genuine care to discuss further. Piers Morgan cares. People who tell me "i wouldn't change a thing about you!" Cares more about me liking and accepting them than about getting my health back on track. It's so sad that people are not allowed to be genuine around others anymore.

It is quite awesome, that you want to be healthy again, but you don't become morbidly obese so fast. How come you didn't notice it way before that, when you were becoming obese? What I mean is, we all have a psychological issue, which is the real reason for our health problems. I am pretty sure that if you work on it the excess weight will go away a lot easier.

@@galinageorgieva8554 I knew I was fat the moment I saw vacation pictures from last year. I suffer from depression and I tend to eat too much because of it. I was also downing oreos like no tomorrow but then one day I looked in the mirror at my belly and butt and thought I have to do something. I had no idea it had gotten this much out of control. So I went to my doctor for help.

@@SpongeBobfan3646 I meant the real psychological reason/s for all of it -depression, overeating, maybe more. It might be very, very deep.
I just found out mine(literally today. I had other theories, but turns out I was wrong). It was the cause of my chronic health problems, anxiety, etc and am starting to work on it.
I suggest Alex Loyd's codes or whatever resonates with you, something that will really deal with the core problem and not just with the symptoms.
BTW, I also get depression, when I eat wheat foods, that's why I had to stop them.
Best of luck, I wish you to get to the bottom of it, feel great and be healthy.
