MANAUS, BRAZIL - From Belo Horizonte, we flew to Manaus, a city in the State of Amazonas, which is in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest. It’s the biggest city in the Amazon, and it’s surrounded by massive rivers and jungles. I was so excited to be there. We landed in the mid-afternoon, so we just had a few hours to walk around and explore, and get our first impressions of the Amazon. #Manaus #BrazilianFood #Amazon
Mercure Manaus Hotel - Thank you to Mercure Manaus Hotel for hosting all of us during our stay in Manaus, and for the amazing dinner.
We first drove to the market where we sampled a few local fruits. Most of the fruit stalls were closed, but a few were open and mainly we tried Cupuaçu and a type of wild passion fruit.
Amazon Theatre - One of the most important landmarks and sights of Manaus is the Amazon Theater, a beautiful theater in the middle of the city.
Restaurante Canto da Peixada - I wanted to try a local freshwater fish dinner before going back to the hotel, so we stopped to eat a grilled tambaqui, one of the prized fish of Manaus, Brazil. It was delicious. Total price - 89.70 BRL ($22.96)
Dinner at Amazon Restaurant at Mercure Hotel Manaus - Finally we were invited for dinner back at the hotel where they prepared us an amazing Amazon meal including a huge mix of dishes. I didn’t even know I was digging into the piranha soup, and it was so good. Freshwater turtle is also a major part of the Amazonian food diet.
It was a great few hours and my first impressions of Manaus, Amazonas, Brazil.

This is amazing, I am showing this to my 64 year old father and so many times you passed by places and he says to me wow I remember sitting there or we would play ball there or I walked around there so much it’s amazing that you can vlog this and bring back memories to people who don’t have the money to go back. My father was born and raised in Brazil but after moving to the states he never got to go back because of financial struggle so thank you for being able to vlog this and show those who either can’t go back or have Never been

Because Manaus is in the center of a tropical florest rains almost every day, is very humid, and because is in the equator is hot all the year. So is just like a natural sauna. As brazilian i can say that Brazil is a very peculiar country, in the south we have snow and a predominance of europe culture (the citys are very similar to german citys), in the northeast we have magic deserts with water (resherch Lençóis Maranhensses) and a africane culture, a north with places like Manaus and indigenous culture, and the rest is very mixed and have a lot of amazing landscaps ( Cataratas do Iguaçu, Mares de Morros, Pico da Neblina, and a lot of beachs. Sorry for the english.

Manaus - can't help thinking of Werner Herzog's film "Fitzcarraldo" and the documentary "Burden of Dreams" which was made about the filming of Fitzcarraldo. That famous shot of Herzog...."You know, if I voss not making films, I sink I vould be in a mental hospital" (!) But, thanks to you Mark, we have another view of Manaus and the amazing things it has to offer....sometimes fact is much more fascinating than fiction! As always, keep up the good work, Cheers, Keith (Brit in Berlin)

I lived in Manaus for 2 years - thanks for sharing your experience. I loved Cupuacu! Acai took some time to like. One of my favorite items that was incredibly different was Tucuma - you'll have to try that if you make it back again!

I love Brazilian people (I know few personally), I like Brazilian culture....however, I have mixed feelings for this city. I feel bad for the forest and the habitat lost. Nevertheless, very nice Brazilian series, have fun!

The reality is that nearly all habitat and rainforest in Amazonas is intact and protected.
      Have you been to Manaus?

@@electricink3908 No I have not been, that doesnt change the fact that cities overall are not helpful to the environment in any way. Maybe only Singapur, but Singaporeans are loaded, Brazilians are not. Sure, if the city runs on enviromental energy, uses only electric cars/boats, doesnt polute the Amazon river (or any water source nearby) with all the literal s*** going to the sewers, doesnt spread (because spread of city means disappearance of forest, obviously), people dont build roads and highways to get to the city etc. etc. etc....sorry, but even though Amazon forest is protected, it still vanishes...how come eh? People, e.g. cities never stop spreading and there is nothing we can do. Makes me feel sad, that was the whole point of my post

Luckily the rainforest in that part of Brazil is far from vanishing. It is not the South of Brazil with its grazing.
Manaus is a sort of free trade zone and with booming and relatively clean manufacturing industry. It was set up to try and discourage many people living off the jungle (like illegal gold mining)
and make it easy for them to find a job in the city. And those who don't like to work in town live on the other side of the river and make a living from it.
I have never experienced such clean air in a big city and the river far less polluted then I expected it.
So thing are not as bad as you hear, remember that many people covet the riches of the Amazon and things you hear about the country can be exaggeration or propaganda.
I realised that when I first arrived in Brazil.
If you ever got the chance to visit Manaus it might change your perspective.
      Greetings
