  • The key to the success of any Havahart® Wireless Dog Fence is properly training your dog to the new Fence Boundary you've set for him. Being committed to thorough and consistent training will ultimately give you peace of mind knowing your dog will remain safely within the Roaming Area. But where do you begin?

    This video will walk you through each of the 5 phases of dog training, beginning with an optional preliminary phase, which will familiarize your dog with the electric dog fence training flags. Phase 1 (Passive Training) will help your dog to understand that he should stay away from the training flags. Phase 2 (Active Training) teaches your dog to associate the flags with both the tone and static correction that are administered by the wireless collar. Phase 3 (On-Leash Distractions) helps your dog learn to stay within the Roaming Area despite distractions outside of the Fence Boundary. Phase 4 (Off-Leash Distractions) is intended to teach your dog to stay inside the Roaming Area without being on a leash. Phase 5 (Dog Monitoring) ensures that your dog has learned all parts of training and may help you to identify areas where you should conduct reinforcement training.

    What do you do or how do you get your dog to the containment area, if your dog wants to go inside and won't budge toward the containment area? I'm trying to start day 1 of training, right now it is difficult to get him to walk outside. Would different times of the day be a good idea?

      Hire a trainer who knows how to train “stubborn” or anxious dogs.

    Are you supposed to pull the dog back when training at the warning tone? Or is he supposed to be pulled back when he passes the boundary and gets shocked.

    Once you’ve determined that static level 1 doesn’t work and you need to use level 2, why would you keep going back to level 1 for each step of the training? Silly ... of course you wouldn’t leave the dog in the correction zone either, he just needs to understand where it is.

      They make systems where there is the option for vibration.
      I purchased the PetHQ system, it's rechargeable, comes with a remote, and wire/flags. (All for the same price as the cheaper systems)

    Put on the leash collar BEHIND the fence collar, not in front of it!

      Hahaha I laughed at that! I figure it doesn't really matter what term you say as long as you are consistent... I've been saying "fence"... Bad flags just made me giggle though

    • @likeabunnie
      @likeabunnie 5 лет назад

      Yeah... I'm continuing to watch this, and I think you should teach the dog to come back to the roaming area, not just that the flags make the correction.... Plus if they realize it's just the one area, they will learn they can just bust out... This isn't very good guidance!

    This dog seems completely unphased by all of this. It’s funny but I know it’s just a video so it doesn’t matter, but leaving the dog in the training area just chilling is weird. I pull my dog back instantly while saying bad flags. You don’t want your dog thinking it’s fine plus your dog will get shocked again with some brands. Clearly, you need to go up on your settings if the dog doesn’t seem to even know something happened while crossing the flagged area.

    They didn't have the nerve to show the part where the dog gets shocked. Your dog will get shocked and he will freak the hell out but they didn't show that part. You will just have to experience that off camera. Good luck.
