The ball I've had for the past 40+ years is a ball that PBA professional Mark Roth gave me when I met him at a PBA tournament in northern Ohio. A Hammer!!!
I started with the pinky holes 2 years ago to take stress off of the tendon on my index finger. Relieved the pain nearly instantly. I do notice more side roll as well. Ball goes a little further downlane.
I’ll take the ball. I think my league would love it. They all ask to smell my ball cuz it’s root beer scented and the look on their face when they say “can I smell your ball” is priceless 😂
Packy, can you do... 10 shots with two different balls with a tape on the ball, and calculate the RPMs and compare it to Specto readings? They seem to be inaccurate now and then. Would be an interesting video.
Specto has been proven to be really inaccurate, because it doesnt actually have a way to track rev rate. It uses the ball speed and motion compared to old data to 'guess' what the rev rate is. So NOBODY should take Specto rev rate measurements to heart. The same thing applies to measuring your speed with most house center's speedometers, because those don't read the speed of your ball until it reaches the pins, so it only tells you the speed of the ball AFTER the break point, when the ball starts slowing down. To get an accurate idea of whether your speed is consistent, you would need to measure it at the point of release.
I find that I sacrifice accuracy when I throw fast and hard so I don't throw fast and hard anymore. I have since gone from a 14 lbs to a 12 lbs ball but my score suffers normally but my luck has gone up so is it better to score below your avg normally or get lucky and score above your avg a little more than once in awhile???
There's a couple variations on this that I think would be interesting to see you try. Index and pinky finger holes instead of middle and ring finger ones and your normal finger holes plus two for your other hand. I'm not really sure how or even if the latter would work, but I have no doubt it would make for an entertaining video.
Keep the bridge between middle fingers but overlap/combine the finger holes for adding the index and pinky. Should be more comfortable...less spread. Two elongated holes for four fingers. A Star Trek live long and prosper grip. Of course, won't be able to use grips. The center I grew up bowling at had a few 5 finger house balls.
I've just returned too bowling and, naturally, have control problems, not to mention sore fingers. When I switched to using my index and middle finger things improved. I'm considering going index, middle, ring. It just feels natural for my roll. Bowlers, like most sports, are traditionalists and don't want to go against the norm. I'll let you know how it works for me.
Years ago, like 35-40, Playmor lanes in Newton had a 5 finger house ball in the rack. Always wanted to try it but the guy it was drilled for must have had huge hands, big span with big holes.
I had to drill a pinkie hole because of an accident on the job where the tendon on the finger next to my pinkie was severed. The hole for that injured finger had to be drilled at a funny angle. This was in the late 80's. I averaged over 200 back then. Throwing a bowling ball with those three fingers & a thumb hole felt natural to me, like throwing a baseball.
I knew a bowler back in the 1980s who drilled pinky and index finger holes in his ball because, having injured his hand numerous times building houses, he no longer had the strength to hold the ball with a standard grip. He was good friends with our league secratary who double checked the ABC rules to make sure the extra holes were legal
Iv been bowling no thumb for 40yrs. (Im 54). I thought about this 20yrs ago. I would ever drill a full hole though. Are those 2nd knuckle holes. Looks like it. I was going try finger tip pinky and pointer. Seems way to big a change for me to go full finger when i can alreasy hit same board every time. Not being able to get the pinky and pointer out seems like it would be an issue. Also why are they so close together. My pinky and pointer are spanned out as far as possible for control. Maybe because you have finger holes not tips. Interested in seeing a 4 hole ball with finger tips for outer fingers and normal ring and middle.
You should drill a new ball with the middle ring and pinky holes drilled at an angle, and the index back a little to be able to cup it and roll up on it.
0:47 honestly, I think it would go up bc thats an extra finger its rolling off therefore givin it more revs. But not im also curious to see if im right or wrong 😂
Love you Packman. Its such a shame so many people are not subscribed. its as if they don't know its free. Just click the button. Is all gain and no harm.
Speaking of drilling balls and rev rate, I just learned something the other day. I just started bowling 2 years ago and I just got my 4th ball. Using tenpin toolkit I measured my rev rate at about 300 to 318. Then I bought a new blackwidow ghost and had them drill it like first ball that don't use much and my rev rate jumped to 360 to 375! Now I'm getting my other ball plugged and re-drilled.
More finger grip holes will give more spin and control on low weight bowling balls weighting less than 9 pounds. This is good for beginners but I don't think is good for pros using heavy bowling balls. Pinky hole can injure or fracture your hand on release. In your case, two handed champion bowler can strike with any kind of bowling ball. Thanks.
Was very interested in this video to see what adding more finger holes would do to throwing the ball. I can see the pink hole adding more support and increasing grip strength to be able to throw the ball more cleanly. I myself took a dremel with a sander insert and enlarged the two finger grip tips to make it feel more comfortable on release. Now my fingers on on my hand can go all the way up to the 2nd knuckle, if I don't use the thumb hole while testing it. I feel that I could add some washers with a flat screw and a round washer for the top one to adjust depth to only allow the finger tips to get into the ball so far so that I don't end up hurting my fingers from getting them in too deep by accident. Once the depth is just right, can add some JB Weld onto the screw top to make it perfectly smooth. The same Idea could be done to the thumb hole with washers as well. It would technically add more weight to the ball, but since the thumb goes all the way into the ball anyhow it wouldn't do much for that since a person would want their thumb all the way in the ball anyways. It may change though how the ball reacts due to more weight in the thumb position or it may balance out with the weight that would be added into the fingers positions and change rev rates or how the ball goes down the lane. It won't ruin the ball at least to try and see what kind of effect it has on the ball, because can always remove it.
wonder if a four finger drill would help shooting spares for no thumb bowlers. For control and end over end roll? because making the switch to two handed picking up corner pins for some is more difficult than the strike ball, due to the increased rotation.
I bowled for years with a pinky hole. Releaves hand pressure if nothing else. Try holding 15 lbs with just 2 fingers vs. 3... Much easier and yes... It helps you release faster with less effort... Which should give you more revs...
Haha, those 4 finger holes remind me of a guy at my center on the "Oldies" league. He's old, overweight & very weak and can't hold a 10lb ball unless it's got a thumb hole + all 4 fingers. His rev rate is maybe 5-6rpm and his ball speed is 7mph tops, lol. But he shows up for league every week, and he has fun. That's all that matters.
The angular momentum is conserved, the moment of inertia decreases. And therefore, it's angular velocity increases, so the rotational kinetic energy will increase
My only question or I guess concern really is that the finger holes are all in line, when I think about finger length and grip your fingers don’t end up in a straight line when you start to close your hand, so just confused as to why they aren’t staggered or curved to match how your hand would grip, finger tip to the first knuckle to fit into the ball
From watching Brad and kyle throw a 5 finger ball its adds more revrate but not much more cause you have to worry about clearing and not breaking your pink or something
Your revs got more consistent the more fingers you added. The highs and lows were tightened up considerably. Normally you were 466 to 504. 466/492 with the pinky. Same average, but they were more consistent. 474/485 with 4 fingers. You might not like it, but the rev rate was tighter. Might be something to consider working on.
I think using a thumb hole and if you drill the pinky and index hole slightly angled out so those two fingers can release from the ball smoother than you would have a better result.
Loving the experiments you do. Although, I'm kinda wondering what would happen when using just the ring, middle, and index fingers in the ball.... and even 2-finger combinations like ring/index, pinky/middle, pinky/index, ring/pinky. 😅
I would like to see you not use your middle finger and use your index and ring fingers only. My middle finger has developed a big knot on the end of it, making it quite uncomfortable to bowl. Thinking about trying to use index/ring and see if I can still compete. Would love to hear your take on trying that. My only other real option is to switch hands.
should have bowled it without the pinkyand the other 3 inserted for comparison got a feeling you would get around the ball quicker increasing your rev rate ;)

Just did it
I'm want that forked up ball! (Pun entirely intended)
Got you filled it out!
Funny thing is, is I used to tuck my pinky and I would destroy it. Lol
I did it as well, but imma make this easier for me. I probably live the closest to you out of all your subscribers so just make it easier on you B)
We discussed doing this years ago but it's hard for the everyday Joe to drill up their good bowling ball. Thanks for showing this Packy !!!

where do you buy your bowling balls? I'm looking to buy one for my first time.
As always a very entertaining video. I would like that ball. I probably would replug the index finger but keep the pinky hole.

What about rev rate bowling one hand no thumb vs two handed?
Hey the House website gives a email address that isn't recieveing emails on orders . What do I do?
Did you try just adding your index? If so, how did that change your Rev rate, if at all?
I can’t wait to get my hands on that 5 finger full hand ball
I wonder though if it would be different for one-handed bowlers.....adding either/or/both pinky and index?

How does one get or use Specto?
Might be less harsh on 2 extra fingers if the holes is a little curved etc. I drilled a 5 hole ball, the 4 fingers is in slightly curve 🤔
so adding more holes legal?

Not the first to do the index finger hole. Dana Miller Mackie uses one. I have seen a few others as well. May be the first two hander to do it though
Might need a fit check to do it in competition, it felt 🤮
I love that ball keep up the good work u are the best and I wood love to meet u some day your my boss fav bowler

My guess id Index finger will increase your rev rate
It will make your left or right rotation different for sure

I have an answer for you , would you guys consider using a wagon trolley for a 6 ball arsenal or 2 tote bag for 6 balls?
