All these guys to some degrees better than others know how to attack and separate the court and their work and craftsmanship of their game and competition from friendships off the court. Which is why he retired.. he was done fetting hurt & rehabbing. That 60 point game is legendary he could barely run up and down the court. Plus taking about 45 shots is tough. Man i miss you KOBE! What highlight videos like this one and the Jordan one you watched, they always emphasize the scoring, particularly the dunks, the game winners, the championships, etc. But both Kobe and MJ were also incredible defenders. I wished we saw more of their defensive capabilities in these videos. Particularly, MJ, along with Pippen and Dennis Rodman formed the most incredible defensive-minded squad in perhaps the history of basketball. They would often lock-teams up, with Pippen often guarding the best player on the opposing team (except for centers or power forwards), thus allowing MJ to concentrate more on offense and playing the passing lanes. In their final season, games would often be over by the start of the 4th quarter and MJ would just rest for the rest of the game. That was how dominant they were.
But meanwhile, in the Shaq/Kobe years, their offense was so dominant (also with Glen Rice, Robert Horry, and Rick Fox), no one could keep up with them.

I've never heard that rumor about Kobe and picking 24...But I gotta believe there is some significance to picking the number that is 1 away from MJ. Also when he was on team USA he picked number 10 and michael was number 9. He has said himself he is not better than MJ, but I do think it signifies a connection.

He wore #24 in high school.. had nothing to do with MJ or #23 (or maybe it did, since he chose to wear it in high school... but then it’s no secret that MJ was his idol).
The 60 points game eclipsed the 81 points game in terms of significance... it was his last game, having played 19 years in the league.... he was basically a grandpa in NBA age... and the way he scored 60... he took over those final minutes to win the game... it was the mamba mentality at its finest.

He first wore #24 in high school, then wore #33 in honor of his father who also wore #33 in high school. He couldn’t wear #33 upon arriving in NBA because that number is retired by Kareem, and #24 was already taken by another player... so he chose #8, the jersey number he wore as a kid in Italy, and also the sum of 143 (the jersey he wore at Adidas ABDC camp) which is 8. He later on chose #24 in second half of his nba career when it was again available.

You ask "why not just step back out for the three" on the long two-point shots. The game hadn't realized the potential in the three pointer like it does today just yet. Teams still tried their best to work the ball inside the arc to find a good look closer to the basket when Kobe entered the league. Players like MJ and Tracy McGrady and Kobe were at the top of the scoring food chain because they had all the offensive skill you could ask for and would take any opening they sought out from anywhere on the court because they were just that damn good to take those kinds of shots all the time. But it's fun to wonder what Kobe and MJ would have looked like in today's game with proper spacing and teammates who specialize in three point shooting above all else. That just wasn't the way basketball was played for most of Kobe's career.

He retired with the all-time assists record (I think he's still third or fourth) a slew of triple-doubles, 5 Championships and one of the best rivalries in sports history with the great Larry Bird. 81 was the 2nd best ever. Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points in one game. He was 7ft tall which is kinda average for a center now but back then the tallest centers were usually around 6’9”. That’s why they call him Wilt the Stilt. He was literally a man amongst boys just based on size but also based on talent.

Hey man, I think the reason he shot that two pointer instead of stepping back to the 3 point arc is (possibly) the defender is less likely to anticipate the jump shot

Kobe was drafted by the Charlotte Hornets, but was traded to the Lakers a couple of weeks later for Vlade Divac. Kobe never even put on a Hornets uniform.
Also, Kobe and Shaq had a hard time getting along. They both wanted to be considered the star of the team. Eventually the Lakers had to choose because they could not continue to have both players. So, they traded Shaq, the older player, to the Miami Heat for Caron Butler and Lamar Odom.

Hope your having a good day bro! Idea: so the NFL Draft is coming up soon. Cardinals have the no 1 pick for the first time ever. Day before the draft (draft is on April 25th), you should do Larry Fitzgerald lmao (Yeah, I'm predictable. But consistent 😉🤣). Miketoonice highlights. That's all. Have a great day!

6:05 there is always a reason to shoot 2 pointers and 3 pointers. It’s all about Skill Level and players are really good shooters from the base line and mid range. Basketball isn’t all about 3 pointers and slam Dunks. You have work on your craft and the little things like 2 pointers. The NBA never had the point line until 1982-83.

81 is his highest, the commentator said what “he eclipsed his 81 point game.” Because of the fact that this man is in year 20, and scores 60 points to end his career. (Which is a record)

On the 60 points eclipsing 81: He did not play well his final season. If it wasnt Kobe, they wouldnt have played him.
That being said, the jazz needed to win the final game to make it into the playoffs. So they were trying to win as much as possible.
So with Kobe playing terribly all year, and the jazz fired up to win, Kobe showed us he still had that killer mentality to win, and dropped 60 points to bring his team back and win.
The commentator (Stephen a smith) said it eclipsed the 81 point game because it showed just how much of an assassin Kobe was.

It eclipsed the 81 points game in therms of performance. It was a much older Kobe being the first, second and third option in a bad team. That year he willed them into the Playoffs but sadly like in the second to last game of the regular season his Achilles injury happened. He never was the same after that.
