Wow. 1966. I just saw her in the new show "Fallout" and I had to look her up. She is 80 years old now! Over 50 years ago and she still has good roles in current shows like "Deadpool" and "Fallout".
What a beautiful voice. Leslie Uggams was a fixture on TV variety shows when I was growing up in the 60s. Hard to believe this is the same woman who portrays Blind Al in the Deadpool movies. LOL. That's what I call "range".
Leslie was on the Dean Martin show many times in the 60s, and beyond. Dean was one person who did not care what people thought of him singing with, being affectionate with, and hugging a black woman.
Nice melodic version of the original that The Beatles released a year before... Furthermore, it is always a pleasure to be enveloped by the balanced voice of Mrs. Uggams... By the way, I thought I briefly saw Mr. Ned Beatty in the audience, or it was someone who looked very similar to him...
That's the actress who played Lucious' mother on the FOX series EMPIRE! She was a regular singer on Mitch Miller's TV show back in the 1950's. A big deal during segregated times to see a Black woman get equal time on a primetime series!
I seem to remember watching a re-run of this particular Sullivan performance when I was a kid, and Leslie had messed up the words while lip-syncing to the track. It seems that this clip was cleverly edited to hide this, by inserting a brief clip of the studio audience. I would have liked to have seen the unedited performance again.
@@jody8526937 I'm sure he's not bothered by my opinion which is the tempo is too slow and the arrangement has too much orchestration. I love Earth Wind and Fire's arrangement of Got To Get You Into My Life. Now that's worth listening to...
She has a strong voice, but she did too much remake material. If she could had gotten new material like other singers, she could have been much larger in terms of record sales.
Isn’t that what vocalist did in that era? Things were changing but it’s of the moment. And this was a new song at that moment. Good rendition. I will start look for her material. I have overlooked her.

Nice to see a "traditional" singer cover a Beatles song and do it so well. Good job.

Leslie's beauty and talent shine in this brief clip.
Fantastic interpretation
She is now playing Blind Al in Deadpool! ❤
I didn't know she was singer! She's very attractive!😍
Beautiful lady... Beautiful voice!
Happy Tuesday... thank you for sharing! 💖

She had such a pretty voice. Love you girl ❤❤❤❤
Lovely to see her again. ❤
What a beautiful voice she always had! ❤
Beautiful rendition. That shot of the audience tho 😂
It's good the majority of them are no longer with us.

Beautiful lady mom and me loved Leslie Uggams
Love it.
What a classy, talented beautiful woman.
Fabulous.
Ella Fitzgeral also sang a Beatle song on Ed Sullivan, it was Got to Get You into My Life.
Sensacional, muito bom . I'm Fron Rio de Janeiro Brazil
Maxine Brown released a single that same year with a similar arrangement. It's quite nice.
What is the name of the song?

I was crazy about her when I was a kid in the 60's.
Great
❤❤❤🔥 yesssssss
Great voice!
Her name came up the other day. What a fantastically beautiful face.
I Remember Leslie Uggams As A Major Black Female Star from way back In The Day when I was A Kid, I'm Now A 67 Years Old Guy In: Eoy 2023

Gorgeous and so talented is Leslie…one can only imagine how big a star she would have been if not for racism.
❤
Dobré časy sú už preč.😢
I can't believe this is Blind Al from the Deadpool movies.

New wine in old bottle.
She was fine af back in her day
Better than The Beatles' version.
She does a great job, but not a shadow of the original. I'm sorry
What a lovely lady with a lovely voice singing a terrible arrangement of that song....
She really did that song some justice, loved it...........
Good arrangement in my opinion. The Ray Bloc Orchestra were top flight. I would love to hear Mr. Bloc reaction to your assessment of the arrangement.
You're saying that because you're accustomed to the Beatles' arrangement.
This is more jazzy, show-biz.
@@susantunbridge4612 Jazzy, show biz arrangements suck.

Wow, Blind Al was a smokeshow.
As a kid I didnt like this sound, now I do..I wonder the Wrecking Crew did the recording session..
Stevie Wonder does the best cover of this song…
That's not how the song goes
HA HA
🤣!
Mother of God that is awful
