    Would also like to add a few things to preemptively clarify - I have another video where I study for many hours a day instead of 2 hours - but this of course depends on what time of the year it is i.e. whether it’s exam season (where I’d study more) or the rest of the year (2 hours a day). Another thing is, when I mention letting things ‘marinate’ and ‘index’ in your brain, it’s similar in the sense to my video on reading where I mention summarising a chapter/page to reinforce comprehension - so these tips are transferrable between different tasks which makes them good (in my opinion anyway hahaha). Thanks for reading and I hope it helped xx

    I wish I could work on maths assignments/theses in the same way. Maths problems are insanely difficult to solve at university-level. They're all proofs, and these take weeks, if not days, to write. Your techniques work well with medical sciences/humanities.

    Note cards are an incredible way to apply this video. For my undergrad math degree, for every chapter we covered, I would write down the end-of-chapter exercises onto note cards with the answers on the back. After going through all the problems once, I would shuffle the note cards then work all the problems again.
    As we moved into the semester, I would simply add to the stack of note cards with each new chapter. This helped ensure I wasnt forgetting anything from the early chapters. This system made finals so much easier because everything was "fresh" in my head still, and not to mention I already had all my note cards ready to work on.
    I applied this method to every class I took, math or otherwise. Even in my advanced math classes for my Masters degree, where solutions could take pages upon pages of writing, I would use the note cards for definitions and partial solutions only, as best I could.
    It works very very well.

      I (and most other medics) tend to prefer sticking with Anki or Notion just because it's more convenient to have digital flashcards (otherwise would end up with 10k+ cards)

    Interesting practice, also, i've never heard about active synchronized recall! I had an insight that learning is basically keeping thinking about whatever you are learning, the longer it is in your head the better it stays but it's a bit effortful to keep it there first. I guess I now have word for it :)
    I loved how you provided a framework with a divided triangle, in the 'read 3x faster' video, it was a great video. It may be too much to ask to do a thing like that often and you don't have to, your advice seems to be helping as is, although I must admit, I liked it how you gave it a diagram and a name, i.e., "Tri-Force Method" it was super comprehensive while also being actionable for the length of the video.
    I'll be staying subscribed to you for sure, I hope you continue sharing honest tips like this!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  Год назад +5

      I just try to give a name to the things I do because i think it makes it more engaging which seemed to have worked hahaha
      And for sure, learning is definitely effort and a very active process as opposed to passive so as you said, we do have to try and let the information 'marinate' in our heads which is why I really like the practice of summarising things - because if you can summarise something very briefly then it means you know it decently well
      Not asking for too much at all, this is all very valuable feedback to me so I'll 100% keep this in mind, thank you for letting me know!!!
      Appreciate the support honestly ❤️ hopefully I continue to improve as I continue to make videos

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  Год назад +3

      To avoid cramming, gotta start studying earlier 😂😂 understanding concepts takes different amounts of time for different people, and if you cram it'll be difficult to put time in for that. Maybe it's as simple as just studying ahead so you can afford to delve a bit deeper into topics - the point I had in tbe video of going deeper helped me quite a lot with understanding, so I'd suggest doing that

      @@Salim_Ahmed awesome thanks man. I like to write everything down because it helps with comprehension a little more than typing but the speed of typing can’t be ignored as a college student. i’ve watched a few of your videos and i just found your channel this morning, I love what your doing. I’m an undergrad majoring in physics and math at rutgers and have used some of your strategies already. If I was to change anymore at this moment I feel I would loose the momentum i’ve gained to finally keep up with my classes but i’m keeping your advice at mind for after this semester. I’m planning on going to grad school and getting my masters and know I’ll have plenty of time in between semesters to improve these skills of speed you’ve gotten so good at.

      For sure, writing does help with being more intentional with everything you put down at times. Appreciate the support man, it genuinely does mean a lot! And deffo, like i think myself and other creators in this space tend to give quite a few points but tbh it isn't expected or reasonable for viewers to do them allll, as as you said it would create a lot of change which might make it hard (altho sometimes doin all can help for sure) - but adapting over time or adding them on one at a time (when it fits!) seems to work well too. I hope this sem goes well for you! Definitely though, it sounds like you're doing pretty well so i'm sure you'll make massive progress in that time!

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  Год назад +3

      Thanks for reaching out! If I'm honest mate A level content is a lot more straightforward than uni which makes this a lot simpler to do - my advice is to focus on active recall and spaced repetition to memorise the information. Because the truth is with that sort of content, there isn't toooo much understanding going on, it's a lot of memorising and fact recall. So focus on those two methods to retain information. I'll have a video on my memorisation framework either this month or the next, so hopefully that can help!

      Have a decent understanding of the syllabus and start doing sample papers and PYQS immediately. Don’t stress out. People will make the exams scarier than it looks. So don’t worry too much and just start studying. But the most important advice is not to obsess over perfection. You will not have a perfect understanding of the syllabus but that’s okay. So just keep trying and you’ll be alright. Good luck.

    • @Salim_Ahmed
      @Salim_Ahmed  Год назад +2

      I'll try and give a simple ish example for pharma and medicine - so thinking about treatments for different problems like hypertension, heart failure, chest pains (angina). The vertical approach would be to learn the treatments individually - so learn treatments for hypertension, learn for HF, etc. But if you take a horizontal approach, you could cover a greater amount of things more easily. For example, you could be learning about beta blockers, a common pharma drug class. Then considering its mechanism of action, you would form a web of conditions/problems that it's used to treat - like hypertension, HF, angina, tremors. The idea is casting a net wide and superficial at first so you develop the basic overview before going too deep into one thing (which is what studying vertically does). So you could kind of seeing it as doing it in reverse, which definitely helps with building foundations for weaker topics.
      Another example could be thinking like this for microbiology - like instead of memorising each individual bacteria and what their treatments are, learn the common antibiotics used, and what those common antibiotics are used to treat - because this again covers a broader range of things as opposed to narrowing down on just one bacteria at a time.
      I hope this helps, and if it doesn't, please feel free to comment again / send me an email!

    • @tungngothanh3194
      @tungngothanh3194 Год назад

      I suggest you first do some meditation and gratitude journaling to heal your soul after your trauma. Then start by doing little things to build your interest in your targeted topic, step by step, day by day, If you get failed, take a short rest and try to find out "Why I failed?" and answer this question by yourself or you can get help from other experts (who actually met problems like you), then you carry on with your path but this time let make some adjustments to cure the problems from the prior attempt, then do it over and over again until you can fix the problem completely. The requirement for this approach is you need to pay genuinely attention to your thoughts and your process (meditation and journaling can support this process too), as long as you try it with your heart, you can get it someday.
      e.g when you get distracted by TikTok, try to set a range of time to use it in a day or even more uninstall it if needed.
      All is for your degree of focus on your goal.
      This is my advice. Happy to receive other suggestions.
