It's bullshit these car companies are so greedy that they would let these cars rot rather than give them to needy families
It’s not about them being greedy, they are ALL about safety and looking out for the bottom line! If you have 1500 cars out there and 1000 catch fire it doesn’t look good for stock price or the image of the company. Then the law suits to follow. You have to think beyond the video and realize that BMW doesn’t want to take a loss on any of these cars either and they have done their due diligence in making sure of that.
@@Auction_Insider idk if you know or not but all car companies do this B.S if they can't sell the car

these cars were here locally to me in vancouver BC, there was a yard with hundreds of new BMWs left to rot due to "possible" salt water damage during shipping, for all those blaming BMW, the decision wasn't theirs, they were forced by transport canada to junk all cars, truly a shame and waste, honestly transport canada should be charged and penalized for the way they dealt with this
It was actually chemicals they use to de ice planes that was sprayed to melt the snow when they were in port with 6 ft of snow on them. All of these cars were inspected and are the ones the deemed unsafe by a team of inspectors from Germany

Real
I've been working fixing cars for almost 30 years, and I struggle to understand how any amount of "excessive exposure to water, salt and ice" that could occur during the initial storage period (as described in the news article linked to in the description) could result in a car not only becoming unsafe to the point that it's unroadworthy, but doing so in such a way that's impossible to determine without destructive testing.
Rather than crushing these cars which is an appalling waste, they could have instead just auctioned them off as "Damaged in storage, sold as seen, buyer beware" and then not only would they have recovered some of their manufacturing and shipping outlay, but it would have saved thousands of likely perfectly fixable cars from destruction.
I find it difficult to believe that any of these cars would have been any more unsafe or any more beyond repair than some of the badly collision-damaged cars I've seen properly repaired and put back on the road.
The real answer is that it's all about money. If you sell 3,000 "new" BMWs at a discount on the secondary market, it reduces scarcity. e.g. it would reduces the amount of money people would be willing to pay a dealer for a new one. Fighting in the courts to be compensated for the full value and then selling new ones is more profitable. Everything is about $$$
I think they should have been sold non insurable parts cars
How are they even flooded. Cars get exposed to salt up north all the time. Were they submerged in sea water or what?
BMW doesn’t do things like that. They couldn’t be insured, can’t be serviced under warranty and if they start having issues it looks bad on BMW.

Growing up in Oakland County Michigan I remember going to a scrap yard in the afternoon with a friend to make a few bucks. We couldn't believe what we witnessed. A stack of brand-new corvettes six high stacked on top of each other!! All to be demolished!!! Apparently, they were test cars. For two sixteen-year-olds it was shocking. That was over 50 years ago. I think the name of the yard was Sam Allen's on the edge of Pontiac Michigan.
@@randallfowler-om7lm can't imagine how much the parts on those vettes would be worth nowadays....pre production engine block...etc
They look nice on the outside, but the amount of wear on the mechanical parts is beyond the repairability, even for a new car. They put them to a very hard test to check how they will last over hundreds of thousands of miles.
They were exposed to salt and ice. Is this not the normal situation for any car in Canada? Does this mean your bmw will become dangerous if you use it all winter? If they were flood damaged I would understand.
BMWs actually have super good rust protection. Mine is a 2009 still like brand new underneath. I live in the rust belt.
Aluminum & plastic composite doesn’t rust. This was for a different reason.

We bought a new, no mileage Subaru Legacy that had been on the lot for many, many months. Right away the battery failed and the dealer replaced it. Since then, we've had it in storage for over three years because of COVID-19. It literally went from one storage facility to another.
Makes sense, wouldn't want your Subaru to catch Covid 19 out on the roads. Has it had it's 12 vaccination shots? 😂
This reminds me of the VW Diesel recall, those cars are all currently sitting in an open lot in Nevada. They cannot be resold if turned in to VW unless the upgrade is done.
That was all a scam...as Kiwi testers found out...all done to push EV's diesels were too cheap to run,too reliable... hence diesel is 30p/litre more expensive than petrol right now in the UK(cheaper to produce as well), and agricultural diesel is banned on everything apart from farm equipment... all part of the WEF plan...enjoy driving while you can, it's coming to an end very soon!

I met someone who bought a new m4 convertible that ended up being part of this group. A lot of the exposed aluminum bits in the engine bay and suspension parts had that white flaking stuff on it in the short time she had it, but otherwise no issues? BMW called her up later and explained what had happened and she needed to bring her car back. They offered to replace it with a similar M4 and she agreed. Her old car is still somewhere in this video. Color was topaz? I don’t recall the official name for it.
Yes those were for sure issues I heard of also
I understand that’s not what you’d want on your new car. Scrapping it is completely on the other side of the spectrum though. My 6 year old Mercedes C-class has some flaking white stuff on the outside of the engine as well. It’s common after six years and 90k miles and it will probably last another 90k miles or more.
@@roelp1126 I do not remember everything that was explained back then in 2015. It wasn’t just cars that were delivered to the west coast, but across Canada as well. These cars were under constant excessive salt water exposure while waiting on the docks on the east coast, and at one point were encased in ice created by the ocean spray. Either way it was just a huge mess, BMW lost their lawsuit against the port, and now they are all gone.
@@Fabulousprofound168 ok thanks, that sounds like a horrible scenario! Now I understand a bit better where the flaking white stuff came from.. Would be nice if they could resell these at huge discounts but make the buyers sign a waiver/agreement that BMW isn't responsible for the safety of these cars and they need professional repairs done.
However, in reality regardless of any waiver anything negative that happens from these cars will fall back on the brand and hurt their reputation.
Of course and any brand doesn’t want that kind of negative publicity.

Why would they park them outside in all types of weather? Something is not being disclosed here. There must be a reason why these cars were not sold.
Yeah something is fishy here. I don't buy the deemed not safe to own bit.
EV-pushers playing dirty tricks.
I find it ironic that BMW would claim 3000 cars being "stored by Autoport in Halifax were unduly exposed to ice, water and salt." We (in Hfx) got 3x the average snowfall that month (Feb '15), the cars at AutoPort have been delivered to the same spot for 40+ yrs, and NO OTHER MANUFACTURER made this claim... There's 10-15,000 cars at the HFX AutoPort at any given time, from every manufacturer in Europe & Asia, including Honda/Nissan/Mercedes/Jaguar/Rover/Bentley/Porsche/Ferrari/Lamborghini. None of which made this ridiculous claim, knowing damn well the cars are stored close to Hfx Harbor (salt water) and Halifax gets the occasional blizzard... Corporate greed at it's finest. 🤬
I also found it kind of weird that only BMW’s were damaged, when they have multiple makes at a port at any given time.
Was this video taken 5 years ago? Or just before they got crushed recently?
The video was taken just a few months ago there was a bunch more mini coopers here but they were all crushed last year.
Why sell them to those who want them to buy? Love those mini coopers
I understand the car being unsafe, but if the car is brand new, allot of parts can be reused, the interiors especially! All those tires 12 000 brand new or close to brand new tires left to rot? I mean that is a bit silly and hugely wasteful.
But how unsafe and why is it unsafe?? Salt and chemicals sure but there must be a way to restore them to brand new status.
Highlights the stupidity of mankind. To have all these cars rotting away instead of stripping them completely down and have a HUGE market on replacement parts. It doesn't matter if the car is recalled or isn't streetable anymore, the individual parts have nothing to do with that.
Nothing to do with quality for sure IMO. BMW has decades of experience, premium brand, top notch quality control and customer service. Wouldn't let "dangerous" cars out of factory, especially overseas to a very important american market. Also notice the variety of models, engines etc... If this was due to a technical problem, would be a specific model line or a batch. We will never know the truth. Probably has to do with big money/ politics/ greed/ "big interests" or all combined. Brands do recalls for fixing/parts replacing. Not for letting cars rot in the field. (Duh?) 🤔
It was transport Canada that said they had to be destroyed. A company like bmw does it’s due diligence, they wanted these cars back on the road. As you can see some have a few thousand miles on them and we’re recalled. These were all inspected by special team from the factory and this is what didn’t make the cut. There were way more cars than this originally. Minis and other bmws.
@@Auction_Insider transport Canada? Is it trains, ships? Freak Bill Gates owns the Canadian trains.. Wondering if the scammer con had anything to do with it. There were about 2,750 BMW and Mini cars stored in open air lots on three sites in Canada.
In 2015 there was a bad storm and it was frosty and icy, then BMW alleged that the cars were irreparably damaged by the frost and ice (but seemingly all of the previously sold BMW and Mini cars out and about in Canada were just fine and perfect!).
BMW didn't actually have to show that any car was actually damaged, nor were they able to, and the storage company had around ten cars examined and not one had any faults!
BMW went to Court claiming 175 Million Canadian Dollars (the combined value of the cars) and they officially issued a Safety Recall to Transport Canada on every single one of them.).
BMW won their case and ordered every single vehicle to be destroyed!
There was nothing wrong with these cars, just like there was nothing wrong with any other BMW and Mini cars that stand outside during a spell of bad weather, but in order to get the 175 Million Canadian Dollars, they destroyed them.
The cars were held for so long because of the dispute between BMW and their storage agent dragged on.
BMW actually demanded 10, 000 Canadian Dollars A DAY to cover the cost of storing the cars in the run up to the court case... And they got that, too!
So not only did they crush around 2,750 perfecty good new cars, they also got ten grand a day costs for storing them till the case came to court!
Talk about wanton destruction, no reselling them for parts, no donating them, just crushing them for profit.
This is truly sickening, absolutely fucking awful...
Did you read the article? "Certain vehicles, which were parked at the port of entry in Halifax during the ice storms in February 2015, may have been exposed to excessive standing water and salt for an extended period due to this isolated environmental incident,” said Transport Canada in statement.
Providing more detail, the government body said there was a risk of corrosion on the starter motor power supply cable connecters on certain MINI models, which could lead to the inability to restart the engine following an engine shutdown by the start-stop (MSA) system, increasing the risk of a crash.
On certain BMW models, meanwhile, the lubrication of some internal components within the steering rack may have been exposed to excessive water or salt, which Transport Canada said could result in higher than normal steering effort or steering binding, also increasing the risk of a crash.
It also said that that the exposure of electrical wires and connectors to water or salt on all of the vehicles could lead to increased electrical system resistance, and increase the risk of fire.”
Transport Canada required the recall. Should BMW pay for something that was not their fault? No, the transport provider that caused it had to pay.
@@Fekillix Exactly. Why should BMW take the risk because of someone's error? I still think the insurance company that had to pay the claim should have been able to sell these with cert of destruction or parts only titles. To at least cover some of their loss through the sales. Plus lots of these still had tons of great parts.

Illegal diy? Where is it illegal to work on your own car
@@louisianavq1943 you must not be one of those fool who does the illegal straight pipe that sound like a fart can then. Lol 😆 😆
These are cars with possible salt water damage and it was not bmws decision to let them rot there. They were forced to write off a complete ship full of brand new cars.
@@mosasako4679 💯 correct

Just , BMW M6 Grand Coupe Black 2018 560HP or 600 HP or G-Power 900 HP Plus . My Dream carrrrrrr

Those are some nice rides
It was sad to see them sit like that for so many years
How did u get there RIP ALL CARS MINIS AND BMWS THE WASPS WHERE LIVING IN THE CARS AND TREES HAVE BEEN GROWING OUT OF SOME OF THE CARS HAVE BEEN THERE SINCE 2014-2015 it’s 2022 !!!
I work there
This was painful to watch, these babies deserve to be driven man🥺
The 335d’s were only sold in North America from 2009-2011. Then your were able to get 328d’s from 14-18 as far as the 3 series goes .
I really want a 335d, but I’m scared to leave my Camry reliability LOL. Although I did see a 335d posted a few weeks ago with 415,000km. Some high mileage examples would be nice to see.
Wow. A lot of parts I need 💯
Everyone wanted those cars for the parts lol
I’m sure some people got plenty parts on there day off before scrap.
@@BimmerMafia I’m sure there might have been a lot of theft, I personally didn’t see any or I would have filmed it. It’s a problem with any big business though.
@@Auction_Insider oh Forsure. Especially with auctions & storage facilities. I work for IAA towing in vehicles. Before knowing the story I was already thinking hail damage or flood cars.
But if they were at adesa auto auction. Usually means to be sold. The Adesa in San Antonio Texas has a car crusher but it’s only to crash a couple cars a month not 3k bimmers. Tragic
@@BimmerMafia we are also a storage facility. I should have made a VW diesel video because we also stored all those vehicles before they were fixed and resold
Incomprehensible
Lol
Некоторые люди не могут за 3.000€ машину купить а там совсем новые стоят и гнеют, жалко и обидно.
Sad to see. I wonder how many of these cars are still sitting there and if that Java Green M4 still exists. Extremely unlikely but I’d love to get my hands on that specific car. There is 4 in that colour in all of Canada including the car in the video
@@keiran_k_3912 I made an update video has the same gold bmw in the thumbnail. There is only 6 of them left and that green m4 has been recycled.
@@Auction_Insider terribly unfortunate especially considering that there’s only 3 others in the country in that colour, 1 being manual while the others are DCT.
It’s also just a shame to see all of those cars go to waste
@@keiran_k_3912 It would have been nice to see them parted out but I don’t make the decisions lol. Thanks for watching much appreciated!
Been so long, they should have sold these to some nigerian business man who will distribute them around africa or any where where the insurance laws..etc dont matter as much.
They were all inspected and deemed a fire hazard.
I would have bought em
@@markthegamedriver they were unsafe to sell to anyone
@@Auction_Insider even the parts? Rims, headlight ,seats, steering will be best replacement for copart purchased cars
@@markthegamedriver transport Canada said they had to be scrapped I believe
It is bad that due to possible salt water damage these cars goes to
" car graveyard "...could have sold them at half price or given to folks that cannot afford a car.
Canadian authorities and BMW could have maybe reached an agreement of some kind and tested each car. Salt water erodes modules and so on but seriously...something else could have been done.
If they truly cannot be sold...they have so many parts that can be sold like the seats, tyres , windscreens and many more.really a shame.
I’m with you on the give away, but you can’t give away something that’s unsafe!
I would definitely buy one over there
I understand not wanting them to be sold due to the possibility of corrosion. But there are thousands of perfectly good pars on all of these cars. Destroying them is arguably the dumbest (and also cheapest, which is likely why it was done) decision that could have been made with these cars. I don't see how the Canadian government can make the call to have these cars destroyed. If Canada doesn't want them sold in Canada, then that's their call to make. But aside from a few added safety features, most CDM cars are nearly identical to USDM ones. Most of these could have easily been sold at a discount and with a disclaimer to residents of several states in the US with no issue. Considering the condition of alot of vehicles in the rustbelt of the US, a little salt water corrosion would still be a massive step in the right direction. If the cars break down, then the parts could again hit second hand market (which is kind of hurting in the BMW world at the moment) and make prices go down and availability go up.
@@SampleHalo246 I would have liked to see them be saved or parted out also.
I would take off in one of those bad boys if I was there foe real!
You'd have to start it up first, and make sure it has gas, and I'd don't think they'll track you bc there were there to be crushed anyway and you have to have it hidden somewhere bc otherwise itll get towed if no registration
