Я например практически на 80% понял что он говорит. Хотя бегло и это американский английский, тяжело для восприятия. Но ключевая фраза to be another country shoes. в дословном переводе побывать в ботинках другой страны, в реальном переводе - побывать "в шкуре" другой страны. т.е. парень просто проникся. он сказал что он патриот США, но он очень потрясён увиденным и очень уважает страну, которая прошла столько испытаний

On June 25, 1863, Emperor Alexander II signed the highest permission to send cruiser squadrons to the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans to operate on the trade routes of Great Britain in the event of hostilities . In total, two Russian squadrons of sail-screw ships were sent to the coasts of America.
In the Atlantic, the squadron of the newly promoted Rear Admiral S. S. Lesovsky operated . The squadron was ordered to secretly pass the Baltic and the North Sea, based in New York.
The squadron of Rear Admiral A. A. Popov approached the Pacific coast of America and began to be based in San Francisco .By September 29, all the cruisers of Rear Admiral Lesovsky's squadron had arrived in New York.
On October 1, 1863, Rear Admiral A. A. Popov appeared in San Francisco.
The arrival of the Russian ships was timely.
Already at the beginning of the summer, an English squadron of five ships, including two frigates, appeared in the Canadian port of Eskmolt. The British openly demonstrated their willingness to support the Confederates .The presence of Russian warships deterred the Southern fleet from active operations in their presence.
In nine months, the ships of the Russian squadrons visited many American ports, cruised in the waters of the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico, called at Cuba and Honduras, Jamaica and Bermuda, Honolulu and Sitka.
Public opinion in the northern states welcomed the presence of Russian warships in their ports.The headlines of the American newspapers of that period read: "The new alliance is sealed. Russia and the United States fraternize", "The Russian Cross weaves its folds with stars and stripes", "An enthusiastic popular demonstration", "A large parade on Fifth Avenue".
On the other hand, the London Times wrote on October 2, 1863, about the attitude of the New Yorkers to the arriving Russian squadron:
The municipality and the upper bourgeoisie decided to shower various honors on Russian officers… But the French and English sailors are not seen on the shore at all, although up to 5,000 of them are located in the narrow space of the local sea parking ... The officers do not want to play a secondary role at the festivities where the Russians are the lions, and the sailors are not allowed because the Americans lure them to their service.
Reporting on the celebrations in Washington in honor of the Russian sailors, W. Seward wrote that " President Lincoln ... sincerely wished that the reception in the capital could reflect the cordiality and friendliness that our country feels towards Russia."
