    Hi Eddie! Thank you so much for this video! I’m trying to get a karaoke setup for my son’s birthday and this is sooooo much better than getting the new magic sing machine because I like to sing Japanese songs but need the romanized versions which RUclips has! So, thank you, thank you, thank you for this tutorial!!! ❤️

  • @BobbyGrasberger

    In case anyone else got stuck on this step: the HDMI from the Apple TV needs to be routed directly to the TV itself (not through the receiver). This way the Apple TV audio will properly run through the optical out into the mixer, then to the receiver. Meanwhile the video will run directly to the TV to display the lyrics. Just make sure the TV source/input is set to the Apple TV, not the receiver.
    Once I got that figured out, this setup has been awesome!

      Michael, The thickness of the cables does not matter. Make sure the level input and output on the mixer are turned up. Are you using the same mixer and mics as the one in this video? The mics also have a level output control.

      Hello Sam. Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. Were you able to get it to work? The Apple TV will always output audio through the optical port. If you have it set up like I have it it should work. The issue most likely sounds like your ARC “audio return channel” on your receiver turned on. This is overriding the analog input from the mixer.

    Hi Ed. Would this setup work with karaoke apps that keep score like karafun?

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  14 дней назад

      I haven't used that software yet. But from what it can see online it looks like it should work. As long as you can get the audio output correctly. I will look into this app more. Looks fun. Karafun has a ton of RUclips videos too.

    • @supsnap
      @supsnap 14 дней назад

      @enelson83 so I know that the app has to be able to analyze your voice connotations in order to score you which I think means that the app would need pick up the microphone as an input device via USB c or lighting (apple product).

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  14 дней назад

      So from what I have researched it seems to use the smartphone or tablet's microphone to pickup your voice. You would need to have a microphone plugged into either device. The AppleTV does not allow for an input device. You would need to mirror (Airplay) from the app to the TV then your iPhone or Tablet can listen to you sing. Not sure if this will work.

      Yes you do connect the hdmi to the receiver ... but you have to switch the audio input for Apple TV to analog (ie the red white rca cable that you connected from the mixer). Works great!
      When I say switch Apple TVs input , I mean in your receiver, you switch to Apple TV as the video source and switch audio input source from hdmi to analog.

      You could play the music through the homepods but not the mics. Apple is very particular about their integration with other products. Great question though. If anything changes I’ll keep you posted.

    Hello Eddie.....I wondered if you could answer a question about an older Karaoke Machine i was given. It is an AudioLogic unit for CDs and CDGraphics. I put a CD in and it just rotates 10 seconds.......The FFWD and REW buttons have no effect either.

    Heard from a few people you're supposed to use PA speakers instead of home theater speakers for karaoke, but I really want to use HT speakers instead for cost and aesthetic reasons. Can you confirm that you're speakers are still working fine and how often do you use the karaoke?

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  4 года назад

      Hi Chole. I’ve been using karaoke about 4-5 times a month for the past 3-4 years on the same tower HT speakers. They are completely fine. If you see how a speaker works PA vs HT they “work” the same. The big difference is the PA speakers are self powered which makes them louder! My HT are plenty loud and sound fantastic. Just make sure your receiver has enough power to run the HT tower speakers. A good rule of thumb is about 120 watts RMS.! Have fun singing!!

    Hi Nelson. How do you eliminate the feedback while singing so close to the speakers?

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Ernesto, if you are going to be close to the speakers make sure the mic is pointed away from them. Pointing the mic at the speaker causes feedback. It’s best if you can move farther away from the speakers. There isn’t another option other than moving further away from the speakers. You can adjust the gain levels on the mixer too.

      Thank you. I was able to pickup some from Amazon. I have a little issue with my setup if you could help. I'm using the same Yamaha mixer. I have an Android box and converted the signal from digital to analog. The problem I have is when I switch the digital audio on the Android TV box to SPDIF, I'm able to hear my voice from the microphone, but no sound from the TV box when a song is playing on RUclips. When I switch the digital sound on the TV box to PCM, I can get the sound through the speakers from RUclips, but no sound from the mic. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you in advance.

Question: Would you, or anyone who reads the comments, know how to get the audio to go to both the receiver and into the mic port on an iPhone for Facebook Live? Essentially, I want to be able to see a clean audio feed to Facebook while I can hear my performance in my home.

    Hi Eddie, it was very helpful. But, I have a few question, since I'm not into home audio that much.
    Can I skip the receiver? For example, I put a music player (whatever it is), and mics into the mixer, then goes directly to the power amp then speaker? This is more pro audio routing, but is it okay to skip receiver if I don't use it that much? Thanks mate.

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  4 года назад

      Yes that should work just fine. You could even use a powered speaker like the DJ’s use. I use the receiver because it’s part of my home theater setup.

    Is it necessary to have an amplifier if I have a set of powered speakers/monitors? Could I go straight out of the mixer and into the speakers, in that case?
    ALSO: If you have a newer Apple TV without the optical out, but you have an unused optical out on your TV, could you use that into the converter, if the Apple TV is going into the flatscreen? I know that's jamming another step into the signal, which generally isn't what you want to do.

      This depends on the receiver you are using. You need to set the input for karaoke to be an analog input. Every new receiver in the past 5 years let’s you assign the type of input for your receiver.

      Eddie Nelson Thanks for the reply. Im using a denon 1600h receiver. So I’m using the arc port on the tv for the hdmi cable to the receiver. So when I change the input on the receiver to analogy I can hear the Apple TV and mic perfectly but nothing on the screen. So when I change the input to hdmi I can still hear the Apple TV and see it but no sound from the mic.
      Do I need to change the port on the tv from arc to hdmi? Or is there a way I can change the setting on the receiver?

    • @enelson83
      @enelson83  4 года назад

      Hi Khoa, there should be a setting on the receiver to allow analog audio input. One thing to make sure you do is the hdmi input needs to be the same as the analog input. In your case I would use hdmi #5 media player for the Apple TV. Then for the analog audio from the mixer use the media player input. Then there should be a setting for using analog only audio input for the media player selection.

    • @khoa4377
