    Great video, thank you!
    Pitot heat can heat up the pitot tube really hot very quickly on some planes (like within 15 seconds of operation); so, a word of warning - do not grab it with the palm as it may cause blisters.

    Nice videos. In addition to this another thing worth doing is pulling the plane slightly forward to check the tyre tread, as well as checking the condition of the wing struts

    Thanks very much for this video! Very nicely done and helpful to me in building a base of knowledge before commending flight training. I have a few questions. For the purposes of comfort and video clarity, shooting a video like this makes sense to do when there's no precip. However, there MUST be plenty of situations where the pilot is IFR rated and it's raining during the preflight. I would think that would make it challenging at the least to perform this operation and maybe even impossible to do certain parts well. For example, if you're looking up, whilst rain is hitting you in the face, how well can you see the 4 nuts that secure the flap's hinge assembly? I guess my 3 questions, which have to do with when you need to do a pre-flight with significant precipitation, are: 1) Are there ANY steps for which you are less strict about the "thoroughness" of it? 2) Does the exterior part of the pre-flight differ in any way and if so, how? 3) Do you bring 2 sets of clothes, one for doing the pre-flight and another for after you're done with the outside part? Thanks very much! (P.S.: I reckon if an IFR pilot frequently flies in "weather" it certainly helps to justify a hangar fee, eh what?)

I’ve never seen anything like flying to compel one to learn from both the wisdom AND the mistakes of others. It’s pretty much impossible to ever stop learning, but that’s also a super cool aspect about flying. Thanks again for taking the time to provide those great answers!

It's been too long for me to remember the details of those answers, but I believe I recall him saying that there are no changes in the thoroughness of the preflight and I believe he intimated that if the weather is that challenging, even if one is IFR rated, perhaps they should reconsider flying that day. Again, I'm going off of memory from a year ago.
      Also, I searched for his channel. I only found one channel named 'Clement Suen'. Assuming I found the correct person's channel, although he does follow some aviation channels, his only 2 videos that he personally has posted were 2 versions (hand-held and tripod shot) of the same performance of a band doing a cover of "It's My Life". Given the lack of any active posts about flying, there's a decent chance he's not even a pilot.

      To maintain as much consistency as possible, we always train the pre-flight checks in the same order that is listed in the aircraft's POH. As pilots become more familiar with an aircraft, they do tend to develop their own slight variations on exactly what order they do things - we encourage our students to always use the checklist regardless of how well they know their plane though! 👏👏

    How often do you perform this pre-flight inspection? It's called daily inspection, so I suppose you don't do all of it before every take-off when doing multiple flights a day?

      Hi Sebastian - great comment! You are correct - this is really a "daily" inspection, so it is most crucial before the first flight of the day. Having said this, we like to complete a check this thorough prior to every flight - so this is the standard we train and follow for our pre-flight checks. We'd prefer our students to over-inspect rather than under-inspect, and the additional time doesn't have a noticeable negative impact on our flight scheduling.

      If I am the 3rd pilot flying the aircraft today, how do I know if the first 2 did the preflight correctly? How do I know nothing has changed from the first 2 flights? How do I know there is sufficient fuel onboard?
      Do the preflight. Maybe somewhat abbreviated based on prior use, but do a walk around to verify the aircraft is airworthy and paperwork is correct.

    Question(s)...
    [1] How much "resistance" is in the control column, and does it try to "self-centre" to a "neutral" position?
    [2] If it does not "self-centre" then how do you know when the pitch and roll position of the control column is in their "neutral" position?
    [3] If you have knowledge of any of the yoke controls available for PC flight sims which is the most realistic for C152/C172/C208/B350?
    I have the Logitech G Flight Yoke System (formerly Saitek Pro Flight Yoke") and to me there is far too much "tension" and "resistance" when turning and pushing/pulling the yoke, making delicate movements nearly impossible - this is due to the "self-centring" springs inside which can not be providing a realistic experience but I've only ever flown ASK-21s and DHC-1 Chipmunks, and that was in the mid-1980s!!! So I have removed said springs and replaced them with some elastic bands that provide just a little resistance in the movement of the yoke and will very loosely return the yoke to its "natural neutral" position.
    I appreciate that when in flight the force of air over the control surfaces will likely "force" the yoke into a "natural neutral" position. I just hope what I have done is actually making my yoke more realistic to that in a real C152, C172, C208, B350, so hope you are able to answer my questions.

    In the US, there is a fuel strainer valve to operate and sample fuel. I did not see this on this video. Are AU C172R's missing this item?

      Hi Ried - there are a number of fuel drain points which are checked during the inspection of their relevant section of the aircraft. Check out 12:52 as an example :)

    Check, check and check again - if in doubt, ask someone else to check/confirm. My own mantra is 0fA + 0fS => 0fF (Zero assumptions + zero shortcuts => zero funerals). Just sayin'.

    04:41 "Switches are all off" ... skips over the beacon light switch that is still on. 😆 Other than that, great video!

      Beacon is typically left on regardless so that it can be noticed by anyone nearby when the master is on.

      @@aaronfrick9880 I agree that leaving the beacon switch on is a good procedure. I was just mentioning that leaving it on should have been called out in the check, rather than saying "switches are ALL off" but leaving one switch in the bank on.

    I know the video says on a Cessna but what do they do when the plain is huge and you can't move/reach parts of the plane.

      Great question! On larger aircraft, the inspections are quite different from that of a smaller light aircraft. Many of the "harder to reach" items are inspected visually.

      As someone who worked as a ramp agent for united, we also visually inspected each plane on arrival and before departure and notified the pilots of anything we saw.

    Any potential inspection item that would cost more accumulated life time for everyone to perform that inspection should not be performed if that amount of time is greater than the amount of life time lost due to the fatalities incurred by no one inspecting that item.

    Bro you just checked bunch of stuff that are normally ok but bottom of your plane looks like there is oil splash not leak from engine. I hope you didn’t went for a flight before checking that as that’s really scary
