Other wise I’ll be here all night . When those two silver backs where fighting I didn’t see any females around ,I said there just seeing which one is the boss . Clever aren’t they ? Why are there 2 Silverbacks in the same enclosure? That's pretty much a recipe for heated confrontations.The Silverback is meant to maintain order among the troop,but there should only be one Silverback per group - unless the dominant male is getting too old and a rival is ready to take over....Either way,this is stressful to these gorillas who have nowhere to escape each other in captivity.
Was watching the same thing last night. Then I realized that I wasn't watching the Nature Channel, I was watching The Trail Blazers playing the Lakers.
What if this whole time every zoo uses 1 way glass so all the animals see is black windows and constant laughter behind and tapping on them shit i would go nuts too 😂
I live 15 min from this zoo and this is the same silver back that broke a 4inch thick glass! The thing people dont realize is yes its hard to watch but think about it like this.... Obviously this is over dominance/ territory so its a good thing they have a big enough enclosures to be able to have that dispute ..other places they sit in a cage and are too depressed to care! This is natural behavior!
One time while I was at the zoo observing the lions thru the glass, there was a lioness laying near the glass. Along came this huge male lion and starts to mount her, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE GLASS! Well you can imagine the looks and comments from those seeing this and trying desperately to get out of the viewing area and not having to answer their little ones inquiring questions of what those lions were doing. Nonetheless there was this young man with his two little kids standing next to me, and as soon as that male lion climbed on he turned to me and said, "It's good to be the king". I broke up laughing so hard as I turned around to leave. "IT'S GOOD TO BE THE KING"!!!
@Ben Warner isn't there normally 1 Male with a troop of females & babies but if another male gorilla wanted to take over the troop he would kill the babies & mate to produce his own offspring. I've seen many troops with the male as dominant leader & rears up babies with females.

If there are two or more silverbacks in the same enclosure (or in the wild in a bachelor troop of males) there will likely be a more dominant silverback among them (as in a troop with one silverback with multiple wives). It appears here that one of the eligible bachelor silverbacks fancies the lovely lady with the blonde ponytail, and appears to be flirting😍🌹. She then goes into gorilla whisperer mode 😂 when he approaches the glass as she extends her hand to him in a petting like motion. The other silverback approaches. Not sure if he is protecting the lady (more likely) or jealous, but at this particular moment during the "mild scuffle" (and believe me...this WAS JUST a mild scuffle warning) we can clearly see which is the dominant silverback of the two, as one backs down.

you all realize that zoos are important for the conservation and breeding of endangered species right? this may not be the best example of a well maintained zoo, but they are more than just "hur hur dumb monky in glass cage" the animals are used to educate the public and provide awareness for the species at large. Zoos provide a first hand experience most people would never get with these animals other wise, and another good things zoos do.... they help protect critically endangered species in case the animals go extinct in the wild... hell without zoos and captive breeding programs several species would already be fucking extinct. Like most rhino species, some species of elephants, and other more notable species. Hell without zoos and captive breeding, pandas would have been gone but thanks to the combined efforts with china and several other zoos around the world the panda populations are on an increase. Even being moved up from endangered status to vulnerable.
