Wildlife and Bird Photography at a Wildlife Refuge

- Today I went out to the same location where I recorded a previous video, Winter Bird Photography at at Wildlife Refuge. The day started off great with a Bald Eagle flying over as I was getting out of the car and the weather was perfect. I didn’t make it very far into the trail before I located an Eastern Coyote and was able to start my day of wildlife photography. Through the morning, I was able to find and photograph a variety of birds including bald eagles and the smaller songbirds like black-capped chickadees, downy woodpeckers, and nuthatches. The bird activity was high due to the beautiful weather and I was glad to be out. Thanks for watching!

Love the sound of the train in the background 😊
Yes there are commuter and freight train tracks that run right through the preserve. Thanks for watching!
At first those majestic eagles could see you better than you could see them :)
They sure could!
Beautiful video. Thank you.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for showing yourself when you were scared of the coyote. I related and I'd be also scared in a situation like that. It is nice to see that wildlife photography can also mess up with our emotions. And congratulations on the beautifully presented images. Cheers!
Thank you for watching! It was a great experience with a mix of excitement and uncertainty. Once I saw that the coyote was around a deer kill it became obvious why it did not have much interest in me. Coyotes are typically much more scared of humans that we are of them.
Loved the Kingfisher footage!
Thank you! I was really happy to have been able to see it. Most of the time they are very skittish.
At least that coyote got in on some good eats. He looks pretty darn healthy. Coyotes kill a lot of deer around my place. Hoping someday to photograph them on the hunt. Great outing.👍👍
Yes it did! I have only seen them hunting in bits and pieces on trail cameras, and have seen the aftermath very soon after a successful hunt. It is impressive especially when there are multiple coyotes involved. Thank you for watching!
What a great channel you have! This video made me so happy!!! The best way to shoot animals. xoxoxo
Thank you for watching! I could not agree more, hopefully if people can see how amazing these animals are that are in our own backyards they will maybe appreciate them more!
Awesome video as usual. I wish I knew what refuge you were at in Massachusetts. TY.
Thank you for watching! It is the Fannie Stebbins Memorial Wildlife Refuge located just south of Springfield along the Connecticut River. It is a great place if you re local.
@@ToddDeWaldPhotography Thank you so much. Do you go there often? I may try it at some point.
Great job young man. Keep it up!!
Thank you I plan too!
Very nice video. You surely do have a lot of wildlife in that devastated woodland -- dead ash (thanks to emerald ash borer), knotweed, Japanese stiltgrass, multiflora rose, Asiatic honeysuckles and ... Unfortunately our eastern coyotes are much more wary than those in your area, but then most people shoot them on sight (and not with a camera) so they have good cause to be wary.
Yes it is a really active spot, but also active with the invasive unfortunately. I have a feeling the coyote I saw in this video was more concerned with finding some scraps rather than me. Usually they run quickly once they realize people are around. Thanks again for watching!
How do you like that manfroto fluid head
I like it better than the gimbal head I used to use. It is nice and sturdy and I like tension you can have to adjust how easily it moves especially for video. The only things I don't like about it are the weight of it and the bulkiness. Even if I have my tripod legs extended out to get ground level shots, with the fluid head, the lens is still about 10" off the ground so it doesn't work well if you need to be very low. Other than that it works great and has hold up well even when salt water gets into it!
What part of the North east are you.
I am in northern Connecticut and do most of my hikes in the area and in Massachusetts.
Which lenses are u using mostly for wildlife Photography? 150-600mm (Sigma) or some else? Which camera u hv?
I use a canon R5 and a canon 600mm F4 for wildlife. A sigma 150-600 would also work well.
@@ToddDeWaldPhotography ok… keep it up. I will start soon.. due to busy schedule I m unable to go anywhere. But loved to watched ur videos.
New lens that I just ordered from Hunts Photo.. Sigma 60-600. Greater range than the 150-600. Same price.
Are there any other good apps for wildlife sightings other than e bird that you use?
I have not found any good apps for helping to locate mammals or wildlife like that. eBird is definitely the most reliable resource when it comes to finding good hotspots for birds. I have heard and use local Facebook groups to help with wildlife sightings but much of the property around me is private so even if there is a wildlife sighting it isn't much use. If you really want to learn about specific mammals, I would suggest searching through the Mammalian Species Accounts for specific animals. This resource is free and they provide just about everything you could want to know about an animal and its habitat preferences and feeding. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
