  • Hey guys, I recently spent a couple of days at the harbour photographing various waterfowl, including Mute Swans, Buffleheads, Golden Eyes, and my first Northern Pintail, to name just a few. With much of the bay frozen over, these birds gather near one of the boat launches where locals often come to feed them. It's a great location to watch different species visit throughout the day!

    Really nice video. Reminds me of our outings here around Ottawa area, Love the swans with their wings up.

      Thank you! The Ottawa area is great, I have only been on a few trails there, but they’re beautiful and a ton of fun. “Beaver trail and chipmunk trail” is my favourite.

    That duck army is crazy 😂!
    And swans are so underrated, so majestic.
    That bald eagle is the best example of how a cloudy day can still come around with big surprises.
    Rly cool to see how those photos came to be.

      @@CurtisSnapshot I bet you can get a lot of flight shots there. And I hope the people feeding the birds got the right food.
      Of course, anything for the algorithm ;)

    Love your channel Curtis great video! Quick question is the audio captured on the GoPro for your videos or do you use a different mic please ?

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  6 месяцев назад

      All the audio was captured directly out of the GoPro 11. Unfortunately my mic broke a few videos back, haven't replaced it yet.
      I was using the GoPro media mod and a Rode lavalier mic, the sound quality was great.

    Hey Curtis, great video and thank you for sharing. Question, do you always shoot in mechanical shutter? Do you prefer it over the electronic? And do you shoot raw, compressed raw, or jpeg? Thanks.

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  6 месяцев назад

      Hey Mikey! I usually try to stick to a mechanical shutter, unless a silent shutter is required for a more sensitive species.
      The reason for this is a silent shutter can often distort the image, whether it be the animal suddenly moved or you swayed the camera back and forth, both can cause a stretched or wavy effect in the image.
      I shoot uncompressed raw, because I like knowing I’m getting the most out of my images, however this only allows the a7iv to shoot 6fps.
      Compressed raw is a great alternative as it allows the camera to shoot 10fps and there really isn’t a noticeable difference in image quality.
      Hope this answers your questions, thanks for commenting.

    • @mikeymike4366
      @mikeymike4366 6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Curtis, I figured that would be the reason. I shoot with the Canon R7 and I agree with the rolling shutter. However the benefits I get with 30 fps on the R7 outweigh the drawbacks of the distortion of the images. Also the R7 suffers from shutter shock with mechanical which leads to soft images with the vibration of the mechanical shutter.
      Great I figured it’s compressed. I do too.
      Thank you for the response Curtis. 🙏

    • @CurtisSnapshot
      @CurtisSnapshot  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@mikeymike4366 that’s really interesting with the shutter shock, I’ve heard of that effecting some cameras before but didn’t know much about it and 30fps sounds insanely awesome! No missing the action with that!
