    That solo was so good sounding man! You're probably the best guitar teacher/knowledge sharer on RUclips right now, I don't normally buy lesson videos but I'm really considering buying yours!

    I'll give credit where it's due, and Tyler has one of the best instructional channels out atm.
    One slight little thing that may have been misleading though. The end jam part was written/improved prior to the breakdown of the motif explanation in the 1st 3/4 of the video.
    I kept thinking it was weak sounding as an example, but man did it come together at the end with the chord progression.
    Good stuff.

    Good vid. I also think deliberately avoiding the root note can add tension. Also, temporarily stepping out of the scale can do a similar thing, or playing a diminished pattern that never quite resolves.

    Not sure I mentioned here before about an idea that's fun to do on guitar. A sort of call and response thing. Play your fancy little riff say, around the middle of the neck, then on the next bar play the same, or sort of the same, riff an octave higher on the neck. Maybe vary the riff as a variation of the one you just played before. Then switch to mimicking the riff you played in the higher register to the lower octave. Make sense?

  • @Metal1667
    @Metal1667 7 лет назад

    how do you eq your lead tracks? When I play my tone seems ok but when listening to recordings it's too much treble and too distorted, mostly high up the neck...again, it sounds perfect standing in front of the amp.
    DI out from the amp, no mic, LP humbuckers, volume pots halfway, gain comes from the preamp tubes. I play with a powersoaker however. Is that the culprit?

    Hey Tyler, I kind of habe problems ending a solo. Do you have any advice?

    • @chrislynch1235
      @chrislynch1235 8 лет назад +2

      He did mention bending into a vibrato, way up the neck. That's kind of a classic. But you also want to think about what is coming next. Is your solo taking the song home? Does the song END, or just repeat and fade? Is the next thing another verse, where you could do a lead-in to the melody or accentuate the rhythm guitar's motif as the guitars transition back to supplying rhythm? Is the next thing another person's solo? Sometimes it helps to not have a guitar in your hands. I.e., just listen to the backing track over and over, and sing different solo ideas.

      Thank you very much guys! I'm sure that will help me writing solos.

      ALWAYS take a step back and see where the music wants to go. Less can be more. Every part needs to be adding to the bigger picture that is the song, or else it can get wanky very quickly...lol. Juicy and tasty or not at all.
