A Brief History of UCC Firsts

June 25 is the birthday of our denomination, the United Church of Christ! 🎉
The UCC was formed in 1957 by the coming together of various traditions: Congregational, Christian, Evangelical, Reformed, and the Afro-Christian tradition (officially recognized as the "fifth stream" in 2022).
In celebration of our wider Church, we reflect back on some "UCC Firsts" in this short video we originally made in 2022 for a sermon series called "Wholly ‘Ohana".
In many ways, the UCC has been at the forefront of living out the way of Christ through enacting justice. Here we highlight and celebrate some of the firsts that have taken place because of the UCC.
