I very rarely see people turn the wheel back and forth like that, starting it the way it was supposed to be started. This only works on John Deere’s though.
It relieves Hydraulic Pressure in the Closed Center system. Deere has a destroke valve on the pump you can adjust to keep from building pressure to help starting then you have to turn it back to full stroke; a PIA. An option on PowerShift transmissions was a disconnect to take the transmission pump out of the picture as well. It was a lever on the left outside of the dash cowling. This was an option only on 20 series New Gen tractors. GenII had a release under the floor board for towing if needed. It was found it really wasn't necessary because the engine needed heat more than anything at minus15. My 4620 PowerShift would start at 10° without heat or Cosby Sauce and it didn't have the disconnect. I never touched the Hydraulic pump and didn't crank the wheel either.
