- We wanted to now how heavy of grass you can reasonably cut with the Kubota BX Mid Mount Mower so we headed up on the hill to mow around the pond and to mow one small field that we would normally cut with the Rotary Cutter.

Those tractors are absolute tanks for their size. I haven't heard anyone complain about power or functionality of those tractors. Great video!
They really are great for their size. Thanks, Logan!
Looks like it did a fine job. You point out what I think too many people don't understand, which is that often speed and not lack of power is what makes for an inadequate cut....particularly when cutting with a "fast" ZTR! Nice job Lucas. 👍😎👍
Thanks, Chris! Glad you stopped by! 👍
The BX is a good mower! I’ve cut some thick tall stuff myself and it’s impressed me. I usually take a bungee and tie up my flap so it discharges the grass better. Beautiful place around the pond! Enjoyed hearing about your son’s work ethic! Take care!
Thanks, Ben. I was wishing I had done the bungee cord thing too. That would have helped. I appreciate the kind words! Have a great week!
I mow my fields with the same MMM and what I find helps is to drill a hole out at the end of the chute, put a cord in it, and pull it up when you get in the thicker stuff. It allows the mower to throw the grass out farther and clogs less. I like it so well I did the same to my zero turn I use for my lawn.
Thanks for the tip! Years ago I did that to my old riding mower, but I had kind of forgotten about that. I appreciate the comment.
that pond is sweet, still messing with deck height on mine, more with the anti scalp wheel setting
you have a beautiful setup, enjoy the video's,thank you
I agree that looked like it handled the high grass well and having the kids do some of the heavy lifting is ok.
I try to keep them involved. They do pretty good. I’m proud of them!
Good work, Lucas and the BX did a good job. Yep, slow down and let it cut - that's the secret for any mower really. I run mine of 4 inches because of all the rocks around here. I need to keep picking them up but there are thousands laying around. Thanks for sharing, buddy!
Thanks, Buddy! Yeah, gotta watch them rocks! I have them everywhere up on the hill…
Looks good brother, I cut with a 60inch xmark which in tall grass like you were cutting does surprisingly well but naturally requires a second run to groom it nice, that diesel cuts like a monster with no loss of rpm in the tall stuff, love your pond, God bless!
Thanks for watching, brother! I’ve heard great things about those Xmark mowers!
Looks like the ol MMM did a great job. 👍 For some reason I really enjoy mowing. 😉 Those mowers are surprisingly strong and cut well. You have some property there too. Love the pond. Keep up the great work Lucas 👍. Take care and enjoy your week. 👋
Thanks, Buddy! I don’t mind mowing for the most part. It helps when you get to use the tractor. I love running the Kubota! Have a great week, Kyle!
That was some pretty tall grass! I’m pretty impressed. My 48” king kutter rotary cutter does not do that nice of a job! Great video as usual!
Thanks, Justin! I appreciate you watching!
Looks like a lot of blade sharpening is in your future, Lucas!😂
Right?!? Lol
MMM handled that thick stuff pretty good!! @3:32 I wanted to see you do a little dip and go. Pond looks great....hope you have it all sealed up now. My Stihl FS55T is 19 years old and has only had a drive shaft and a carb or two replaced on it....and I use/abuse it with a brush cutting blade on it!
You can’t beat those Stihl Weed Eaters. We’ve run the guts out of our FS55s and they just keep on cutting. Thanks for watching, Brad!
Man put your dust caps on your front hydraulics!
I've mowed some thick 5' or taller grass with my dad's Kubota BX 2380 I could only go a half mile an hour but it did it
Looks like it works really well. I'm wanting to get my hands on a smaller tractor like that soon
I can’t say enough good things about the Kubota BX!
@Peek's Peak Hobby Homestead I'm just now doing my research on them and I can't find really anything that would stop me from buying one lol
id love to get a belly mower for my tractor but they're pretty expensive. in the mean time I have a 54" Husquvarna and a flail mower for the rough stuff. Love my BX
Speaking from experience, if you put a BX mid mount mower in high dry field grass for any amount of time you will stop up the radiator and run it hot.
Our 54 inch mower just recently shit the bed so we ended up buying a whole new mower this time we bought a 60inch mower.
Looks like that mower handled that really well. My pasture wasn't nearly as tall, maybe 6-8 inches when I mowed it the other day after getting my mower deck. Tractor did great, I just need to find more yards to mow now that I have this mower LOL.
One thing I notice though, the deck lift seems to have quite a delay in raising and lowering compared to the 3 point...the 3 point starts dropping a lot sooner than the deck starts to drop...not sure if that's normal or not. The other thing I notice is the mower doesn't seem to throw the grass clippings very far so I don't think it would take much to plug up the discharge chute of the deck...I figured it would have a much better throwing distance. It has the regular blades on it, which seem to be a medium to high lift blade which should be able to have enough velocity to really kick the clippings out away from the mower, but its just not the case.
When I mowed my pasture as a test I didn't take the loader off, but if I use the mower again I may try without the loader and see if there's any handling difference...for an open pasture the loader isn't an issue, but if I tried mowing my yard the whole tractor would be an issue due to the trees and shrubs LOL. I've thought about giving the Kubota a try in the yard but there's so many places I wouldn't be able to get into that it would be more of a waste of time than anything. My back yard wouldn't be nearly as bad so I may try mowing it with the Kubota at some point.
Both of your observations are true to my machine as well. Slow reaction on the deck lift and it doesn’t throw clippings very far. I am used to it by now, but it is noticeable. I mow my regular yard with mine, but I don’t have trees or mach to mow around so that makes a big difference. Thanks for watching!
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Thanks for the reply....kind of figured it was a normal part of the operation. The deck lift and lower delay isn't too bad as I just leave the deck down while I'm mowing anyways...but its just weird for as large of a mower this is and the tractor running it, I figured it would throw the grass out much better.
I have an excellent idea. Next time, you can try a flail mower. You buy two of them, one for you and one for me and my L2501, and we can compare results!!!!!! No one has taken me up on this offer yet, wonder why? Lol. Nice video.
Lol. Man, that is such a solid offer, not sure why you have no takers! 🤷🏼♂️😂 I really would love to try one out!
I have a riding mower and when cutting grass it turns the mower deck off if you try backing up. I was curious if the Kubota is similar to a riding mower where backing up you need to turn off the deck first or will it run ok if you just back up? Kind of a dumb question I know but just curious so when my mower arrives I don't blow something up by accident.
That’s actually a great question I hadn’t thought of covering. I always hated that feature. The Kubota does not do that. It has a safety switch on the seat so you have to be on the mower, but that makes sense.
Nice mower!
Looking good there . I did first mow yesterday on off site project took 3 hrs. If not for MMM would have needed to mow probably 10 days ago with Cub Cadet. Not burning up belts with MMM like Cub Cadet would.
Yeah, there is no comparison. The limiting factor in the BX MMM is simply speed. Plenty of power. I was pretty impressed by what it would cut.
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead B has 3 range I mow in M ... I have forgot to take out of H before that really moves lol . The BX mowing in H or L ? just curious.
@@bhall7997 I always mow in low. In my opinion the ride is a little too bouncy in high even if it would mow clean. Lol
Looking good bud
Thanks, Man!
Im looking at buying one of these mowers. I have Fruit tree orchard. In your opinion how would this set up work for mowing around 25 trees? I've been using a brush hog but its a real pain. Also how hard is it to remove and reinstall the mower deck? Thanks for any help!
If mostly mowing is what you’re going to be doing I’m sure a Zero turn would be more efficient going around that many trees. However, because of all of the other uses, if I had to choose one machine it would be this one. I’ve got several videos on mower removal and installation and it really isn’t bad. A few minutes.
@@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Thought about the zero turn but fear the ground is to uneven! Also would be getting a rear tiller. Thanks for your reply!
I found when I cutting tall grass as tall as the hood you have to put it in four-wheel-drive and use turtle. If not, it will bog down on you every time.😂😂😂
to hood on my Kabota that if you don’t use four-wheel-drive and put it in the turtle, you won’t make it through there anytime you’re cutting tall grass you want to use four-wheel-drive and turtle or a ball right now😂😂😂
How many acres do you own?
38
Why on earth would you even think about mowing 3-foot-tall grass or even want too? Simply moronic! The strain you place on the belts/blades/spindles etc. is a recipe for disaster with these little toy tractors.
I was on my BX23 for 7 hours yesterday here in country Victoria Australia. Grass was about a foot high in parts. I had to make three passes in places. It is very disappointing. And yes I was going very slow.
That is disappointing for sure!
Never will understand why people use glowplugs at warm temperatures
Probably should've let that Dutch clover go to seed, eventually it dominates all over all the other grass.
