      And what a good time, very bad ass, I love it!!! now everyone is very politically correct in cinema, a very boring cinema, without author's style, a very washed and generic cinema, that doesn't transmit anything, we miss the times of Paul Verhoeven, John Woo, Tony Scott, Ridley Scott, John McTiernan, Richard Donner, Renny Harlin, Marco Brambilla, Jan De Bont, etc, directors of action movies with balls, who did whatever they wanted.

    • @javix2013
      @javix2013 Год назад +1

      However MI-2 is the movie I remember the most of the whole saga, I know every moment, it is a movie with a lot of author's style, John Woo's, memorable action scenes, something that does not happen to me with MI-4, MI-5 for example, very flat movies, without style, generic action of which I do not remember anything anymore, it is because they lacked director's style.

  • @axelfoley133
    @axelfoley133 Год назад +18

    The movie has so many twists while remaining predictable because they wrote the action setpieces first, then wrote story to combine them together.
    This made me nostalgic for Rade Sherbedgia (the scientist). He's a Croatian actor that exploded onto the scene in the mid-90s and then faded out. He was in The Saint, Mighty Joe Young, Eyes Wide Shut, Stigmata, Mi-2, Space Cowboys, Snatch, then did bit parts in EyroTrip and Batman Begins. Still working, but just not in big movies anymore.
    And it's a little painful at time seeing them laugh at John Woo's stylistic flourishes. In his element with material he can work with, Woo can be amazing. But yeah, Woo was 'miscast' as director for this movie and his style is often awkward in this movie. It's a spy thriller, Cruise wanted an action opus and Woo clearly wanted to make a romantic melodrama.

      Haha, as someone who has watched alot of John Woo, the doves, slo mo and weird close ups are all him. His late 80s and early 90s Hong Kong films basically paved the way for stuff like John Wick today.
      His American stuff however (Face/Off, Paycheck) didn't hit the same. Broken Arrow is probably his best American film but The Killer and Hardboiled are some of his best work overall. Chow Yun-Fat is a helluva leading man in those action classics.

With the right movies it works, with the wrong movies, same style just does not fit. But when you hire John Woo you know what you will get, that's for sure. A lot like hiring Guy Ritchie. @marvel-ousre-grind8724 Yes I know that if he does his own stunt when it comes to him dangling/running from the fish tank, but obviously these two are not going to ask if he actually did that as it’s not that impressive. At least compared to what they’ve heard of, what they would really likely ask is “wait did he actually fight on top of that train?” Which the answer of course would be no, every major action set piece in these movies all the way up until ghost protocol is not real, he doesn’t actually do his own stunts in any of them. Obviously in each film there are certain scenes where he’s doing a stunt, but the sun is not big enough for Integra enough to the story for them to actually care

    One of my favorite sequels of all time.
    Fired up that Hong Kong legend, John Woo was the helmer.
    The trailers were so good with high expectations.
    The songs, Limp Bizkit's "Take a Look Around" (Theme from M:I-2)
    and Metallica's I Disappear were awesome AF.
    Hans Zimmer scored this one and Gladiator, same year.
    So much energy, pace and presentation.
    John Woo as an master of action filmmaking brings the heat.
    Cruise going into action mode was so beyond expectations with great sequences.
    Dougray Scott (villain Sean Ambrose) was originally casted as Wolverine for X-Men.
    He was injured during the film's production and couldn't make the scenes on call.
    So they recasted with 29 year old, Hugh Jackman.
    This was the No.1 movie of 2000.
    First highest grossing film of the millenium.
    Yet it's considered the weakest/hated sequel of the franchise.
    Because of the reception, M:I-2 is a 'completely' standalone sequel.
    Only 5 of the 6 films, from the 1st, the 3rd and beyond fully connect.

    • @habadasheryjones
      @habadasheryjones Год назад +1

      @@LordVadersAccountant I agree 100%. The John Woo dialogue in English by American actors just doesn't work the same. I think the action is too clean in his American films thanks to bigger budgets and it loses all of the grit and energy as a result.
      On the topic of Hardboiled, the warehouse scene is what blew me away. I knew of the hospital sequence going in to watching it the first time but the warehouse caught me off guard. There is a 15 second sequence where a dude slides his dirtbike lights up some goons, kicks off the bike, spins and continues to light goons up in the smoothest motion I've ever seen. Effortless. Its like something out of an anime or comic book that translated perfectly to live action. In that same sequence a motorcycle blows up while a live stuntmen is clearly riding it and I don't know how they did that stunt without killing a man.
      All this to say that American John Woo never reached these heights and thats tragic to me because alot of Americans have stigmas about watching "old" films or foreign films with subtitles so all most people know of John Woo is Face/Off and this film.
      It would be like if Scorsese was only known for Shutter Island meanwhile his real classics remain obscure to the general public.

    Imagine having Hans Zimmer scoring your movie only to reuse the Gladiator soundtrack. They knew the acting, story and action were cheesy and needed at least an epic score.

    When I was 18 and this movie had just come out, I was into it. But watching it back now, I can't stop face palming. The flashy kicks alone that make no sense whatsoever. The most ridiculous one being Cruise kicking upwards, hitting home and then finishing in a backwards roll? I mean...how? You disperse all force and momentum the moment your kick hits, so there is nothing keeping you going anymore.

    Yeap, Thandie Newton's wig was not looking good...if you've watched her in any movies, she does not usually or at all, wear a wig, so I'm guessing the casting & costume/makeup people told her to wear one.

      My favourite is MI3 but this is very underrated and a guilty pleasure, that I agree on. I think they were being quite critical and I never noticed green screen as much as they did. I love that Matrix era of action.

    Yes. There is a lot of John Woo. Like in "Face Off" - there is NOTHING strange at ALL to FEEL with the palm of your hand ON someone elses FACE, again and again - ALL DAY LONG! But the start is one of the best. I just wished that the would have the prolog - then TO the Paramount-loggo from the Plane-CRASH-MOUNTAIN then BACK - interlaced with direct transition to Ethan (YES TOM climbing around on that rock.) Like "Waterworld" (I call it "Dances With Whales") - the best thing in THE WHOLE movie is UNIVERSAL-loggo - zoom in - WATER fills up the WHOLE EARTH.
