You see, Tasmanian Devils are known to live short lives because they fight so much and the females die sometimes.

It's called convergent evolution. Animals in similar to eco systems evolve similar traits. Eg the clouded leopard and the fossa are very similar
Cats are, evolutionary, the perfect predator. It makes sense for Evolution to divert at least one branch into their niche.

The first time I saw a fossa at the Denver zoo, we sat and watched them for a long time. They were one of the first exhibits encountered. It's a great zoo if you ever go there.
Please don't go to a zoo and try to find open sanctuaries wherever possible. It's not a suitable environment for an animal to live in a prison cell for its entire life.
