How to disable secure boot for HP computers to upgrade graphic card (Windows 8)

- This a video to show how to disable secure boot and enable legacy mode. This process is usually for a lot of OEM windows 8 machines like HP computers. For more details about this process, just go to the following link: support.hp.com/...
I did this process in my HP envy h8 1437c desktop computer that came with windows 8 preinstalled. But I did this process after I updated to windows 8.1, but it doesn have to be windows 8.1 for this process to work. I did this process because I wanted to upgrade my graphic card from a Nvidia geforce gt 620 1gb (came with the PC) to nvidia gtx 970. I was successful in upgrading. Also I bought a crosair cx 600 so the graphic card and the rest of the parts has sufficient power to be able to be used. So before installing a video card in OEM machines like HP that came with windows 8, u must do this process and then boot up your computer and uninstall all the graphic drivers that is installed for your old card in your computer and then remove the old card and put the new one in whether its the nvidia gtx 970 or any card. Also make sure u have enough space in your PC and your motherboard support PCIe gen 3.0 read the device manual of your PC if u bought it from a OEM company. For me I bought the MSI Nvidia GTX 970 4G and it was really big card and my current case had enough room to fit it, but the power supply in the other hand was a bit of a problem, but by using a bit force and bending the back of the case a little I was able to fit the cx 600 power supply in. It was harder than I thought and much more force had to be used, but at least now everything works so far. I am even running windows 10 by upgrading from windows 8.1.

Totally unrelated for me I’m not installing graphics card but after I upgraded windows 10 I was in legacy mode I didn’t noticed that but thank you for this now I can put uefi back
Im trying to install Linux, and I do not have a "secure boot configuration" option from within the 'Security' tab. My computer is the HP Compaq 8200 Elite Ultra-slim PC

Very helpful. Now, a word of advice from a radio / TV guy. Do not add extra conversation. Only go over the material needed. Also annunciation. Either your microphone is bad or you are not speaking clearly. Either way you are coming across very jumbled and mumbled. Lastly, steady cam. Again maintain focused on the subject material. Do that and your viewers will not be confused as you provide this very helpful information.
Eddie Dexter Stewart thanks for your feedback, lol this was like this cuz it was one of my first videos that I recorded with a iPhone to start out. But yea now I use different tools to record and I will post more helpful videos when I have more time.
Unfortunately, this doesn't work for me (using an old HP Compaq DC7800).
The BIOS menus look very similar but 'Secure Boot Configuration' does not appear as an option in the security section in the BIOS settings.
I am unable to boot from a USB thumbdrive.

HP ENVY All-in-One - 27-p009ns: I had issues with window. The guy I bought this PC from had messed it up and there was no way I could reinstall a clean version from Microsoft website. Because, first it asked to convert to GPT from MBR, when I did that I was still getting errors. I did a lot of research and found out I had to convert Legacy boot to UEFI. Now I wasted a whole day trying to find that option in the Bios setup but couldn't find it. In total 4 days wasted and frustration level is very high. Until I found this video. I think Secure boot is what HP call the UEFI. I have disabled the Legacy Support and Enabled Secure boot. Download a fresh copy from Microsoft website. Will use the bootable USB to install it. Hopefully, this time it will work. I am quite sure it will. Thanks you in advance.
Update: Issue not fixed. Now I am getting error that HD has been converted to MBR, I didn't do that, no idea how it happened on it's own. Could it be a hardware related issue?
Did you get a "code purple " when trying boot? If so you can try a hiren boot cd. F10 on boot to select boot from cd. This will load a stripped down version of xp into the ram allowing you to start up the computer and diagnose it. You may need to delete a security file. This happens bc hp computers use " tattooing " between the motherboard and hd. I hope this helps. Look up hirens boot cd here on RUclips. The software is free to download. The vids can walk thru step by step. Good luck
@@mattraines6404 Thanks for your help Matt. There were two issues, one the F10 key on the keyboard wasn't functional and caused a lot of problem second I think SSD wasn't primary and I was still trying to install window on it. I installed windows 10 on main HD and the computer is fine now but slower because SSD is not being used. I activated windows 10 on HD, I have no clue what to do now to get SSD back in action.
@@MohiHash maybe.. you could image the hd onto the ssd ( basically making a backup of the hd) then slave the hd. Then go into the bios and have the computer boot off the ssd. It should only read the hd as storage and file retrieval. In theory the motherboard and the ssd would have no problems with the windows install or the key and run like its supposed too. After all this try disconnecting the hd and try to start the computer. If it works reconnect the hd. Good luck.

Thank you for the video. My problem is with F10. I get to that red warming window but I cannot use F10 and can only use ESC. hence, the option is never saved. I cannot save any options in BIOS. F10 is disabled and have not been able to get it back. Any ideas please?

i system is HP Pro 3300 Series MT motherboard is foxconn 2abf and bios is ami 7.11 2011 i tryed another card and on boot it said press esc for startup and nothing worked and pc started beeping then it went to a black screen with the system information and card information and just stayed on the screen and i took out graphics card and booted fine do u know what graphics cards are compatible so i dont need to update bios.

I don't have the secure boot option under security...
well try to look for it under any other options and if you cant find it anywhere in the bios, then you dont have this feature at all. But either way if you are trying to install a new graphic card and you dont have this option, its fine, you can just install it without doing anything in the bios. I hope this helps.

TechieShu yeah I disable the integrated GPU and plug it in the display port on GPU I get sound of windows coming on but screen no signal. I will try driver uninstall.

Hey man I forgot to do this and Install the drivers for the gpu u was going to install my computer is a hp Envy h8 1414 and now when it boots it freezes I also added new ram but then I install all the old components back in and it still freezes when booting any ideas
Try going back to your original components and do the bios step first then upgrade see how it works

No you can't. There's no way to increase vram capacity unless u get a new GPU with higher vram.

@@uragan_27 yes either that or you have to reseat it correctly. You pc supports up to 8gb so you should be fine. Lmk when you reset and push down the Ram properly.

Do you have the same exact motherboard? U can try to see in the motherboard website or the support page to see a updated bios file and if not then I guess u have no choice but to try adding the gpu without disabling secure boot. It should technically work without having such options.
@@techieshu9553 First, thank you for still commenting on a 5 year old video. Found that HP did not provide a BIOS update with Secure Boot for desktop PCs that were manufactured with Win 7 or earlier. I suppose yours came with Windows 8? The reason I need to manage Secure Boot is that now this PC runs Linux, and the graphics card does not run, blank screen. All solutions for this that I found point to Secure Boot disabled as the solution. If that is not possible on this PC, guess Ill have to stick to the onboard graphics.
@ yea it came with windows 8. But even so I am pretty sure you can still add any gpu to it as long as you put the right power supply. So try it out.
@@techieshu9553 think its possible if the machine is running the original Win7, something to do with signed software. But I formatted and installed Ubuntu. Now there's a blank screen (from both the discrete and the onboard graphics) if the discrete graphics card is installed. Remove it, reboot and everything is fine. A video from Linus Tech Tips actually demonstrates that these older machines are still pretty usable with just a GPU upgrade. Far cheaper than getting a new rig, and later on, if you do, just salvage the GPU onto that one. This is what I was trying to do.
@ any particular reason for running Ubuntu? Why not go with windows 10? U can get a windows 10 key from ebay for like $3

Hello I have bought a house elite 8300 sff it's a 8gb DDR 3 Intel core i5 3470 with a 128gb SSD it had windows 10 installed onto it I bought a gtx1050ti after some research AVE read that the GPU works perfectly fine with the 240w PSU that the desktop computer comes with but I always ran into a problem as when I put the GPU in the pc wld boot up fine when the monitor cave was connected to the display port on motherboard but once I disabled intel integrated GPU off and switches to the display port on the GPU itself it won't work at all I tried going in to change the secure boot but I don't have the boot config I ended up wiping the drive to instal windows 7 ultimate that I have the genuine disk with genuine key but now I keep getting after 100% updates failed instal will now cancel what do I do now am I fucked ??
that shouldn't be happening but have you tried GPU driver uninstaller, its possible the intel graphic drivers are conflicting with it. Also the you display port connector is suppose to be connected to you gtx 1050 ti not to your motherboard. and of course your integrated gpu is suppose to be disabled. Turn on the computer and let the windows load default drivers for gpu then go to manufacturer website and download the latest drivers and install.

@@weakestpakistani9730 that depends on what type of computer u have. If u have the same one in the video sure. If not the same one I thjnk u should experiment do it with secure boot on and if it doesn't work turn it off like I showed in the video. Nothing will get damaged.

No vram is already pre included in a your gpu, it cannot be changed.
