The Hasbro version's color scheme was going for a G1 toy approach, whilst the Takara version is actually trying to be more G1 anime/cartoon accurate in both color scheme & the design of Computron. Unite Warriors also did this with the Devastator, Superion, Menasor, Defensor, Bruticus, & the upcoming Ruination. But the Hasbro version might pass for how the Technobots looked in IDW's Stormbringer story since they went for a more G1 toy approach in terms of color & design. Put 'em next to Classics Jetfire & you got yourself nice looking science vessel crew!
Never realized until now. That strafe IS a remold/retool of Rook. The shoulder swivels give it away. They can't swing around like Rook because of the chest piece.
Baltmatrix, I let you little secrets; 1) Takara TF Unite Warriors Strafe is heavy retool of Takara TF Unite Warriors Blast Off. 2) Takara TF Unite Warriors Lightspeed is head retooled TF GCW Wheeljack mold, which isn't going to be last as Generations Combiner Wars Wheeljack mold will be used three more times. 3) Takara TF Unite Warriors Scattershot has new chest molding in robot mode, which you didn't noticed despite you had two Hasbro GCW Scattershot's in-hand.
Nick Palumbo which in itself is pretty ironic considering how the takara managed to make version g1 toy accurate than the hasbro verison by being more so based on the animation
Hasbro's Lightspeed, at least in vehicle mode, is WAY more accurate to his G1 toy self. Just check out his tfwiki page and take a look at the toy pictures. Hasbro's CW Lightspeed features the same white-dome windows and roof as the G1 toy, as well as the white door-base between the wheels. Takara's Lightspeed just has way more red than the G1 toy did.
With light speed, that's not bad on sunstreaker, but instead wheel jack, idk if sun streaker used wheeljack, but the vehicle and the chest is undoubtedly wheeljack
The only thing I don’t like about how this looks is probably just the combined mode head, yes it’s accurate to both the G1 cartoon and toy,but that doesn’t mean I have to like the design and colors;I just think the superion head on the individual release of Scattershot looks cooler. Also I have a little bias because I got it brand new for $12.
It's a shame that the Hasbro version cut so many corners, especially by pretty much using the Silverbolt mold except for changing the head. The combiner mode head and chest parts should have been like those of the UW version. I think they should have offered both versions outside Japan. They would have made a killing.
For the most part, I think the Hasbro CW gestalts were solid and I bought US Superion, Menasor, Defensor, and Bruticus. However, my brain sees Hasbro Computron and thinks: Red Superion doing Computron Cosplay. The headsculpt and gun reuse rubs me the wrong way. Since the others gestalts , barring Devastator, were sold piecemeal maybe I could deal, but this being a giftset, I would rather they remolded the head and supplied a new gun.I would preferred that instead of getting Scrounge/cybax. Hasbro's new feet are great though as is their interpretation of Afterburner. Takara Nosecone and Lightspeed are significantly cooler than the Hasbro imo.Scattershot and Strafe are a tie imo.
_BOTH_ computrons are worth owning. They are so different and are both great. Even if the Takara have the obvious edge. Unfortunately on my side, money and space disagree. Even for one. Sigh.
Nucleo Negro It's true. Takara went show accurate, Hasbro went toy accurate. Two takes on the same idea, I've preferred the Hasbro versions. The Takara versions, while pretty, are just a tad too plain with their slavish accuracy.
Autobot032 if i could afford one computron i'd chose takara's because the molds used for nosecone and strafe look cooler to me, too bad hasbro didn't use the same molds for their versions because that would make me want their computron
The cartoon colors work better for some toys than others. For example, I prefer the colors of the UW Computron, but I also prefer the colors of the CW Menasor, and I like the CW and UW Superion colors equally.
hey Spada could you make a follow up video to this one, where you Frankenstein the parts of both sets to show off a more g1 accurate colored computron using the hasbro set's feet and hands?
I got the takara version and I love it!! Strafes guns in plane mode can come off and can be used as weapons unlike the us version!! Plus you can combine all the weapons into a super weapon unlike the us version that uses the Superion Gun.
I don't think I want this set, but I would like to pick up that Nosecone by himself and customize him into a proper Drillhorn for my Liokaiser in the future. That's the mold Hasbro should have used for that.
I’m gonna have to save up for this set. I can’t seem to find it under $200. A part of me wants to skip it, but this Computron looks absolutely fantastic.
I live in Japan, but I ended up not getting the Unite Warriors version, and therefore paying a total of USD 200 just to get a Hasbro version! I think it's a matter of "the grass looks greener" ...
Well done on the review! I am finally able to get the Takara version. It is all about G1 cartoon accuracy for me. At last, I am able to make use of that brain transfer accessory that came with my original Masterpiece Grimlock to recreate that iconic scene where Grimlock gives Computron Grimlocks enhances intellect. The wait was worth it! Again well done!
Lets list the mistakes. -Listed lightspeed as "sunstreaker" mold rather than "wheeljack" mold, still same base figure, but wrong retool -Didn't mention strafe as a retool of UW blastoff (which I presume he doesn't have which is a factor but following the toyline news would of easily fixed this) though it seemed like he had an idea it was derived from a shuttle but no definitive answer was given -Doesn't mention the retooling made to scattershot's own chest and knees and only mentions colors -Is unaware afterburner's colors, as is the rest of the set to replicate his g1 cartoon/anime appearance (though to be fair people would prefer him shaded more orange than what the UW has given us) -Listed computron's face as the only retool when its the entire head that has been changed, gone are the rubber antlers and now shorter solid plastic sticks -Didn't mention UW strafe's guns can be removed unlike the CW I just got mine today and was messing with him during this, the audio thing mentioned at the start had no baring on the factual mistakes present, overall not the worst review, but room for improvement is present and is always a good thing, and hay I haven't transformed my strafe yet and the head thing I was not aware of (well I knew it was from UW blastoff but thought they fixed that here) so it was still worth the watch :D
Marc Fernandez Oh wow, your one tiny little point that will surely get you likes has surely beaten my 6 that was meant to help others who may not know much about these figures, I feel utterly defeated by your amazing observation and I thank you for the correction :^)
You're quite welcome! I am glad I could help you in your quest to correct others and respond in kind with no amount of sarcasm! I am extremely elated at this exchange! :3
Ya know back in g1 computron had after burner as red right arm and when afterburner was in robot mode he was 🍊 grass green and white and some grey this color scheme would be transferred to vehiclemode
Afterburner was red in the g1 cartoon. He was only orange in the toy for some reason. The sets colors is g1 acurate it's just acurate with the cartoon not the original toy.
these figures are really nice in all of their forms, and even in the combined mode of course, every product line of transformers. EXCEPT for robots in disguise 2015-2017
things I like in the U.S set the reused Superion head on Scattorshot but that's mostly because I always headed Computron's head and I like the brawl mold more then Rook but I wish it had the mouth instead of the faceplate.
Hot damn, this version is SO MUCH better than the Hasbro version. Damnation, what were they thinking? Only the hands and feet are better on the USA version.
Takara-Tomy releases are meant to match the original animation, NOT the original toy. The Hasbro versions are aiming to be G1 toy accurate. In the cartoon, Afterburner is red, not orange. Check the cartoon, Takara-Tomy nailed the accuracy.
Now this is the set that won me over the Hasbro version. Plus, gotta get the PerfectEffect kit for the hands, feet, & new chest to make him look more G1.
the guns for this after burner are only slightly larger than the g1versions. G1 after burner is significantly smaller than the current version. So the comically giant guns are probably meant to be another homage to the g1 set.
I believe Hasbro based their Computron on the G1 toy while Takara based it on the G1 show model, which explains why Afterburner is red instead of orange. Also Strafe is a heavy retool of Takara's Blast Off.
the hasbro one has a better head in my eyes because it reminds me of the combiner wars show and looks better to me if i had both figures i would swich the heads
I don't know if it could work but you might try swapping the foot pieces. Not the actual transformers mind you. I'm sure if color-wise it doesn't sync you could repaint but the ankle articulation and detail seem to be better served on the Takara version than Hasbro's. Frankly I'm disappointed in Hasbro, the robots are not bad but they put some love into the foot pieces that doesn't match the figure in its entirety.
Is there any way I can fix the hips on my computron? Because mine suffers from being wobbly too. And I'm buying a UW Nosecone because the US one is terrible.
Mr Baltmatrix, sir, I have to inform you that the Takara Computron, specifically Afterburner, is coloured correctly... in relation to the G1 cartoon, not the original toy, which was orange. the Hasbro Afterburner is coloured according the the toy but all of Takara's figures are akin to the animated series.
I'd say they are a few difference so they could both make money, you like the USA version of afterburner you gotta buy it, Japanese made a few better version like nose cone you buy theirs
Well let's be honest here it's takara we're talking about here they always put extra time into making sure the paint and moulds of their figures are much better than hasbros usually at least
Afterburner is actually accurate when you go back and look. it's a tie for me in the looks with afterburner. I might use the takara wheels and the hasbro afterburner body and swap heads maybe or mabye not
Great review. It's funny, though, I was into every individual bot until combined. I thought it would look even better. Surprised, though I can't pinpoint what exactly I'm not digging.
Both sets are equally g1 accurate, the takara version is animation accurate, and the hasbro version is toy accurate.
It’s a retool of the TAKARA blast off
I love how After Burner's Bike mode straight up resembles Shotaro Kaneda's Bike from AKIRA right down to the Blue Windshield.
Technically, UW Lightspeed is a remold of CW Breakdown, who is the origin of the mold.
UW Lightspeed just uses CW Wheeljack's parts.
the US version is based on the g1 toys, while the Japanese version is based on the g1 cartoon.
Nick Palumbo which in itself is pretty ironic considering how the takara managed to make version g1 toy accurate than the hasbro verison by being more so based on the animation
Go back and look at the original toys and compare, light speed did not look like that he was more red and white than all around red in his toy form.
Nick Palumbo thats might be for alt mode but it isn't for robot mode
Nick Palumbo us:based on toy Japan:based on animation
Complains how Takara's Afterburner isn't G1 toy accurate, but questions why Hasbro's Lightspeed has a solid white window and roof...
G1 accurate as far as the cartoon goes. American version tries to be G1 toy accurate. Research.
Afterburner is red because TAKARA wanted you to have a full red combiner since they knew you probably have defensor and superion (blades and firefly)
Strafe is actually a heavy retool of the unite warriors blast off (space shuttle)
_BOTH_ computrons are worth owning. They are so different and are both great. Even if the Takara have the obvious edge.
Unfortunately on my side, money and space disagree. Even for one.
Sigh.
Le Kanraposte the takara one would be better for shelf space then
What edge does the takara have
That Blast Off mold is great, but damn that neck...
Acording to optibotimus, the takara computron's deco is based on his g1 CARTOON model, not on the original toys like the hasbro's version
BTW, takara's strafe is a remold of their shuttle blast off mold
the same can be said about the entire untie warriors line
The red afterburner is a surlottion because the green in Japan is a problem and it's green generates massive amounts of heat damaging the figure
hey Spada could you make a follow up video to this one, where you Frankenstein the parts of both sets to show off a more g1 accurate colored computron using the hasbro set's feet and hands?
That version of lightspeed was using the wheeljack mold
you do know that Takara was going for cartoon accurate no toy like hasbro did.
The Takara version is painted in the G1 cartoon colors while the Hasbro version is painted in the G1 toy colors.
This set is good. But the hand foot gun comes with that. Making is small feet. But I kinda wanted to see the hand foot gun on the technobots.
With that hand foot gun makes this guy stable unlike the US version
The hands are fine, but the feet are WAY too small.
The Japanese version of straffe is a heavily re tooled figure of blast off from the prime wars trilogy combiner wars
Maybe Takara will bring you the full set with a proper Drillhorn eventually.
Heh, I just realized that Afterburner's mold is more or less what Hasbro used for the most recent release of Wreck-Gar.
I’m gonna have to save up for this set. I can’t seem to find it under $200. A part of me wants to skip it, but this Computron looks absolutely fantastic.
Bought this over the Hasbro. Very satisfied.
Lets list the mistakes.
-Listed lightspeed as "sunstreaker" mold rather than "wheeljack" mold, still same base figure, but wrong retool
-Didn't mention strafe as a retool of UW blastoff (which I presume he doesn't have which is a factor but following the toyline news would of easily fixed this) though it seemed like he had an idea it was derived from a shuttle but no definitive answer was given
-Doesn't mention the retooling made to scattershot's own chest and knees and only mentions colors
-Is unaware afterburner's colors, as is the rest of the set to replicate his g1 cartoon/anime appearance (though to be fair people would prefer him shaded more orange than what the UW has given us)
-Listed computron's face as the only retool when its the entire head that has been changed, gone are the rubber antlers and now shorter solid plastic sticks
-Didn't mention UW strafe's guns can be removed unlike the CW
I just got mine today and was messing with him during this, the audio thing mentioned at the start had no baring on the factual mistakes present, overall not the worst review, but room for improvement is present and is always a good thing, and hay I haven't transformed my strafe yet and the head thing I was not aware of (well I knew it was from UW blastoff but thought they fixed that here) so it was still worth the watch :D
While we're pointing out mistakes, it's "would have" and not "would of". ;)
Marc Fernandez
Oh wow, your one tiny little point that will surely get you likes has surely beaten my 6 that was meant to help others who may not know much about these figures, I feel utterly defeated by your amazing observation and I thank you for the correction :^)
You're quite welcome! I am glad I could help you in your quest to correct others and respond in kind with no amount of sarcasm! I am extremely elated at this exchange! :3
Also Red Alert is not a Protectobot. Perhaps he meant Streetwise.
Afterburner's colors are based on the G1 Cartoon model for the character.
strafe isn't a brand new mold, it's a remold of the Takara Blast Off
Ya know back in g1 computron had after burner as red right arm and when afterburner was in robot mode he was 🍊 grass green and white and some grey this color scheme would be transferred to vehiclemode
the blast off from the prime wars trilogy was a remold from the strafe mold from this set

these figures are really nice in all of their forms, and even in the combined mode of course, every product line of transformers. EXCEPT for robots in disguise 2015-2017
I for one appreciate your reviews. You helped me find some really cool Transformers. This one included.
things I like in the U.S set the reused Superion head on Scattorshot but that's mostly because I always headed Computron's head and I like the brawl mold more then Rook but I wish it had the mouth instead of the faceplate.
Lightspeed is more of a Lancia Stratos Turbo (aka vehicle mode of Wheeljack) then a Lamborghini Countach
Lightspeed is a repaint of
Wheeljack
Hot damn, this version is SO MUCH better than the Hasbro version. Damnation, what were they thinking? Only the hands and feet are better on the USA version.
One of the only things that I’m mad about with modern day scattershot is that scattershot is a triformer not a normal dual mode transformer
Now with Strafe the US is a retool of the Air raid mold, while the Japanese version is a retool of their Blastoff mold.
UW Strafe is a heavy remold of UW (or Prime Wars) Blast Off.
Japanese strafe looks like a weaponized space shuttle because he is a remould of Takara's space shuttle blast off
Unite warriors strafe looks very much like prime wars blast off, maybe it's a retool of strafe.
lightspeed is the wheeljack version with the different bonnet and chest
Takara-Tomy releases are meant to match the original animation, NOT the original toy. The Hasbro versions are aiming to be G1 toy accurate. In the cartoon, Afterburner is red, not orange. Check the cartoon, Takara-Tomy nailed the accuracy.
Now this is the set that won me over the Hasbro version. Plus, gotta get the PerfectEffect kit for the hands, feet, & new chest to make him look more G1.
Btw, Strafe is a heavy retool of UW Blast Off.
Strafe isn't a Rook retool, he's a retool of Unite Warriors Blast Off
Its the wheeljack mould for lightspeed actually, but dont the orange guns go with afterburner?
Excellent reviews, well done.
Red alert isn't a protectobot. (He would fit with the theme tho)
it's the wheeljack version of the mold, Spada.
I wish Liokaiser Drill horn used the takara nose cone mold, instead of the brawl/ rook mold.
the strafe is a heavy retool of Takara's version of blast off
Transformer Craft really? Nah.
the guns for this after burner are only slightly larger than the g1versions.
I have this set too... Totally awesome, especially when they're compared to the American set, which has its charm, but well...
With the drill this is just a idea you can take a hand off and put the drill where the hand was that’s an idea
Nice. I was wanitng to get this anyway so this just cinches it. Now I need the Perfect Effect add on lol
When we got the Brestforce Destrons, I wish Drill horn used the Takara Nosecone mold.
20:58 do you have any pictures?
Balt can you please combine original release scattershot, wreckgar , sunstreaker , dread wing and viper please
I don't know if it could work but you might try swapping the foot pieces. Not the actual transformers mind you. I'm sure if color-wise it doesn't sync you could repaint but the ankle articulation and detail seem to be better served on the Takara version than Hasbro's. Frankly I'm disappointed in Hasbro, the robots are not bad but they put some love into the foot pieces that doesn't match the figure in its entirety.
could you please do a quick update video with the us afterburner, hands and feet on the takara computron?
Hey balt when will we be introduced to piranha con
All i'd do us get the CW afterburner (the motorcycle) (maybe) and the the hands and feet from CW
i think strafe mold is the same mold of the japanese version of vortex from combaticons
Is there any way I can fix the hips on my computron? Because mine suffers from being wobbly too. And I'm buying a UW Nosecone because the US one is terrible.
I"m happy with the Takara version with the PE hands and feet.
Damn, I want this guy or these guys now, instead of the US version.
i really wanted this set its sold out everywhere
Mr Baltmatrix, sir, I have to inform you that the Takara Computron, specifically Afterburner, is coloured correctly... in relation to the G1 cartoon, not the original toy, which was orange. the Hasbro Afterburner is coloured according the the toy but all of Takara's figures are akin to the animated series.
Like I've said Scounge was the main reason I chose Hasbro over Takara. I may still pick the other one up someday, when I can spare the money.
I'd say they are a few difference so they could both make money, you like the USA version of afterburner you gotta buy it, Japanese made a few better version like nose cone you buy theirs
Question - save for this or buy KO Masterpiece Transformers i.e. Tracks, Wheeljack, etc. ??
can the HASBRO hands and feet go on the Takara Unite Warriors
Slytherin Reviews Yup; Takara used them for Unite Warriors Baldigus (aka Ruination).
So which would should I get
Well let's be honest here it's takara we're talking about here they always put extra time into making sure the paint and moulds of their figures are much better than hasbros usually at least
Surprised, though I can't pinpoint what exactly I'm not digging.
baltmatrix the reason of why after burner is red because of the cartoon
Afterburner is the same color featured in the g1 toy product catalog.
Where can I get this computron?
why does nobody ever mention that nosecone's drill can attach to computron's arm?!
strafe is a heavy retool of blast off from the Takara combaticons set.
Again, the US versions are based on the toys, whereas the Takara versions are based on the cartoon.
it would look even better with the PE hands and feet. love this version though
The head sculpt is from Metroplex.
the lightspeed mold is actually the wheel jack mold
I got this set but I got the US version of Lightspeed.I love Deadend mold.
It's not the Sunstreaker version, it's the Wheeljack ver.
I think the Takara Strafe is a retool of their Blast-Off
Once again Takara is showing Hasbro how it's done.
I think they used WheelJacks chest for light speed
